Thanks for posting this video. I woke up from a nap at 1145pm that night, looked outside, and was treated to the same light show depicted in this video. It was very unnerving. I am 54yrs old, employed as a meteorologist here in the Atlanta area, and am fascinated by severe convection, especially nocturnal thunderstorms. Originally from Minnesota and now living in Newnan, I have seen a number of thunderstorms both in MN and GA produce continuous lightning, and most of them ended up being tornadic storms. The tornado passed about 3/4 of a mile to the north of my home after it crossed I-85. It was very unfortunate how much damage was caused and lives were impacted, and continue to be impacted a year later.
Possibly one of the best, if not the best lightning videos on TH-cam. Those early warning sirens are truly hair raising! I've seen lightning like this before, both in the tropics as well as here in England (Europe) but never with the sirens, even though we had an EF2 tornado rip through here about 16 years ago. Great sound too- particularly on headphones!
Very cool! I live in Fayetteville, GA & I was worried it was headed for us. I’ll never forget it. I was watching ESPN & all of a sudden the emergency alert system came on & said there’s a “Tornado🌪Warning🚨” for Coweta & Fayette Counties! So I quickly turned on David Chandley & sure enough there it was! We were very fortunate we were spared but I felt so bad for Newnan. Newnan high school took a direct hit & a lot of downtown Newnan.
I live in Fayetteville too. That was a scary night. I think the tornado stopped right as it was about to move into Sharpsburg and Peachtree City. It's strange it always seems like tornadoes get near us but never hit us.
Incredible! At first it sounds like a mild and peaceful night, with crickets and frogs doing their thing, but an angry monster lurks in the distance and is rapidly approaching you.
I was coming home from work late that night (after 11 pm) and was driving along Flat Shoals Road in ATL towards the Gresham Park area. From there I had an amazing view of this storm and was blown away by the light show. People were outside on the sidewalk on Second Ave close to McAfee watching this craziness.
Years ago, a supercell thunderstorm developed about ten miles east of us. The lightning was just incredible. I tracked its movement towards the south both visually and on the internet for hours. Five hours later it was 100 miles south of us and was still producing intense, cloud-to-cloud lightning bolts that reached all the way northwards over our house. I have never seen anything like it before---or since.
It takes a seriously powerful and developed storm to create this sort of light show. This is often seen in the storms that produce tornadoes, as this one did.
You will not hear the full effect if you don't have ear phones...I fell asleep while watching/listening to video the sirens woke me out my sleep and scared the 🤬 out of me!!
I've been through some storms with pretty frequent lightning, but not quite on this level. I think a tornado warning had been issued somewhere, sometime in Indiana in 2003 while my family and I had to drive for an hour back home from my grandparents'. This is through north-central Indiana, so the vast majority of the drive is rural... being a kid and riding for that long, in the dark, without many signs of civilization, with nothing but frequent lightning lighting up the sky, knowing there were tornado warnings out, wasn't the most fun time I've had. Looking back now though, the intensity of any tornado from that storm would've been nothing like this one... probably EF0 or EF1 at worst.
this is what i call crazy electrical lightning show normally im scared of thunderstorms for me it's different going to you tube watching them than being in one
How far out is that tornado? It was 3 weeks ago tonight that Newnan tornado made an unwelcomed visit...Anyone familiar with the tornado from hell - the Joplin MO tornado?
@@oliviariley2192 OMG oh, that was the worst tornado disaster I have ever seen the whole city was just destroyed and the Walmart Supercenter! That whole area was just obliterated, the parking lot was just a huge mess of junkyard of twisty destroyed cars and trucks
The Walmart and the apartments behind Walmart where destroyed but I think the hardest hit areas was the neighborhood where I lived which was also where St. John’s Hospital was located looked like a war zone! I’m am so glad and blessed to have lived through that!
We had a storm with lightning just like this where I live in Texas recently. Very cool to watch but that was a really bad storm and scared the kids lol
Im happy that i don't leave here. As a french guy this kind of lighting are rare in France and of course tornado too. I here this night that was a EF4 ?
i have only seen 2 storms in my life like this and it was 2 nights in a row in New Hampshire of all places lol they dont get storms that often like this and i would say this storm is like the 2nd night and the 1st night was a little more intense and we had 3 tornados that 1st night
Wow. So scary. I live in Gainesville Ga. I don't really know what to say. Just the best of luck to these people trying to get thier lives back together.
Hi Keith, I am not understanding your comment. It was a strange event. At times the thunder was over the top and others you could hear the wind the frogs and silence.
Myself if I see lightning like that if I don't have shelter I find out what direction the storm is moving and drive in the other direction until the storm is gone.

That constant lightning was amazing! Thank you for the minimum of talking; just letting nature “talk.” I’m sorry for everyone hit by the tornado.
This is the best lightning footage I've ever seen! 😯 And I've dedicated 15 years to search for the best thunderstorm videos online! Amazing!
Amazingly eerie. The tornado sirens add to the scene.
it's so peaceful yet intimidating at the same time. love nature
That Constant Lighting And Thunder Really Do Frightens Me Reminds Me When I Lived in Texas Especially Those Deep Rolls Of Thunder Scary😱😱😱😱😱😱

That is some of the fastest lightning I have seen in my life!
I’m almost 60 years old, and I can only remember twice in my life that I’ve seen lightning similar to this.

We got a similar show in Arizona in July. Never seen lightning that intense before. At least two or three strikes every second.
It takes a seriously powerful and developed storm to create this sort of light show. This is often seen in the storms that produce tornadoes, as this one did.
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing it.
I remember, as a child in Detroit, seeing lightning like that during the Palm Sunday storms of 1965, only the lightning was closer.
Toronto..

I was living in Joplin when that tornado hit! My Home was destroyed! I walked away with a few cuts and bruises. I now live in Orlando Florida!
