WEARING BELTS TO CREATE A WAIST?

    Have I been wrong this whole time? Has Meghan Markle been using the styling hack or technique of wearing a belt in order to create a waist? Is her proclivity for sloppily tied shirt dresses, trench dresses, and other belted looks done with the goal of enhancing her waistline? If so, is it working? Does it serve it's purpose? Does that style trick give her the illusion of a smaller or more defined waist? Does it work for anyone?
    Today's video is answering your questions and comments asserting that Meghan wears belts to create more of a waist since hers is not that well defined. We are diving into that styling technique in detail so that you know whether or not it is the right approach for you and your body, and your outfits. Did Beebs Kelley get it wrong?

    Wearing a belt only brings attention to a small or large waist. It works on Catherine, but it’s hard to believe any stylist would add a belt to Meghan’s clothes, so it must be her choice.

    • @Nosillamp
      @Nosillamp ปีที่แล้ว +15

      It 100% is. She was very offended when it was implied that Jessica Mulroney was her stylist-she wanted it made VERY clear that she’s her own stylist. Oh-that’s obvious. No reputable stylist would want those choices blamed on them.

    I'm short waisted and know very well that belts look bad on me. So I never wear them. It just doesn't work to try "creating" a waist when you barely have one in the first place. What you should do instead is "skim over" the problem area by NOT calling attention to it in the form of belts or of tucking your shirt in.

      But some have looked cute when I am just in my room or posing.
      Medium rise are better but tricky. What I make up for in lengthening the torso can make me look thicker through the middle. But in general it's the best choice to also look fashionable & less mom jeans.

    This was really helpful for me. I’ve always known that I can’t wear most belts, but I didn’t know why.
    My answer? I’m petite. I can look good in some belts, but that’s rare.
    Although Catherine has a figure to kill for, it’s a myth that every style suits her.
    Sometimes Catherine can’t wear belts either, the difference is that she doesn’t wear them when they won’t look good.
    Over the years we can see that stylists have advised Catherine well, and she has taken this on board. It was a clever move because we look at her now and she always looks fantastic.
    It took a lot of effort for her to look that effortless!

      Catherine has had a lot of help, as has Pippa. Pippa’s husband is wealthier than William was (that may have changed since William became Prince of Wales and inherited the Duchy of Cornwall).
      Btw I see a stylist in a large department store here in the UK. I go twice a year, it means that I can look good without thinking about it for; work, events, holidays etc. I’m no Catherine, but you would not believe the difference a good stylist can make.

      I sincerely wonder if a dress in the "Matilde" vest dress by Alex Mill style might be workable for people if the 2 side adjustment/ belts were in the right spot, as in tailored to fit a person's waist placement and bust. It has sort of a reverse straight line effect than a blazer over belted pants, but has a flat front panel. A blazer could still go over the dress, as well.

    • @mehitabel6564
      @mehitabel6564 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lizhyink5636 I've just had a look at 'Mathilde' and I think it would definitely work. That slim V created at the neck, continuing into the vertical line of the buttons but no belt I think could look very nice on Meghan's / my shape. It probably depends on the fabric. Linen is probably good for us ordinaries, but I'd look at a drapey, non boxy but still substantial fabric like wool crepe which would give a smooth and elegant outline. I'm a seamstress, so I might actually try making and tailoring one for myself. If you're shopping 'Mathilde', it is actually quite easy to move the position of the back-tied belt to match your waistline.

I have used belts that are shaped to sit on the hips just below the waist, in this case the top must be fitted, usually dark. The skirt can be full, but not dirindel, more a circle cut type skirt. I seldom wear skirts even to the knee. A few inches above is perfect to show the interior line just above the knee. I wear slim pants with blazers, and leggings with black tunic a-line tops to just above the knee. I think Meghan needs to simplify. She always looks so blousy and over worked. I love Katherines style, but honestly, she isVERY long waisted. Sometimes she looks odd. Sorry;-))) My style is classic-arty....which I think is what Meghan wants....but she's just too fussy flea markety still. I'd hate to see her at a buffet. She'd need 2 plates. She needs to FOCUS. And tell me. Why do the girls never wear stockings?

    Beebs, I have to tell you I first started watching your channel because of the ‘train wreck’ factor of Harry’s wife, but I’m continuing to watch because your content is great, and very helpful! I’m an inverted triangle, so I am learning a lot from the examples you give! Yesterday was casual Friday at work and I’d thrown on my favorite skinny jeans, black tee and a military style drawstring waist jacket I’ve had for years. I looked in a mirror and realized if I pulled the drawstrings on the jacket, it gave definition to my waist (I still have a bit of a waist, but three babies in four years a quarter of a century ago has had a long lasting effect😉), as well as adding a bit of fullness to my hips so that my shoulders were no longer the widest point of my body! Thank you! I look forward to learning more from your videos about how to dress for my body type!

    I Suits, the costume department dressed her in high, straight skirts and it seems that she takes her fashion cues from that and puts her belts at the same place that the skirts would sit. It looked unusual, but the skirts and tops were styled nicely and they were always pressed and perfectly fitted, something that is missing when she dresses herself.

    Yk, since she has a flat stomach, narrow hips, she should try one of those chain belts that hang down onto the hips, or similar low-hang belts midrise on fitted shirts, dresses. They would also give her some asymmetry to trick the eye, while showing off her slim athletic figure
    One of my favorite tricks is wearing a long white tank under my shirts and leave it peeking out below across the hips - this fills out my narrow hips, draws the eyes to my long legs and makes my torso look longer

    I say, yes belt. Like small, slim, minimal. Lowered. But not for every outfit. If she's going to hike her waist under her boobs No, no, no. that look will work for the larger, apple shape.(like me😊).
    I think lower the waist, make it a wrap, make it flowy and cap sleeve. I think she hikes up her waist on purpose because someone told her that she can get away with it on a pencil skirt. Great for her too with a flowy top.
    And always correct size and correct undergarments 😁

    What do all women's magazines and the entertainment celebrity magazines feature at least once in each issue? Figures, who has what kind of figure, the 'who wore it better' features, and for the past decade 'full figure' and 'plus figures' have fashion dissections on what to wear and how. Women's magazine have at least one undergarment article, bra types, tummy smoothers. On and on, clearly the fashion displays in Vogue are for the very few.
    Meghan has Meghan's Mirror online since the engagement to Prince Harry and it is all about clothes--Meghan's take on fashion. Meghan is said to be open to gift clothing and on loan fashion, which may account for the lack of tailoring if necessary to return. You can't believe Meghan purchased the engagement photo outfit, described as a "showstopping number" featuring a sheer, beaded bodice and cascading tulle skirt from couture house Ralph & Russo, and valued at $75,000 US.
    Big name fashion houses, seemingly competitive to outdress, well, everyone, whatever the result. When Beebs showed Meghan wearing a dress compared to the magazine layout of the dress, clearly Meghan was drowning in the fabric, looking like she is wrapped in toile curtains. It is down to what Meghan sees in the mirror. Two issues, Princess Catherine's clothing is most often relatable--you can picture yourself in the outfit. The second issue is the opportunity Meghan blew right past: What about promoting black fashion designers: "Anifa Mvuemba, Dumebi Iyamah, Fe Noel, Rihanna, Carly Cushnie, Aurora James, Mowalola Ogunlesi Grace Wales Bonner known for perfection in tailoring; Liya Kebede, Ethiopian model and designer produced by artisans across Africa with a foundation for African women for healthcare, education, and jobs; Tracy Reese Hope for Flowers has designed for Michelle Obama and Regina King, board member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America launching new brand, Hope for Flowers focusing on sustainability and ethical production practices; Stella Jean; Camille Perry fashions described as “breezy, romantic, yet fashion forward pieces”. www.cosmopolitan.com/style-beauty/fashion/g33312113/black-fashion-designers/

    I have never really been able to wear a belt, especially a tie belt. Even when I was quite slim, they just don't work with my body. If there is a tie belt on a dress I look better when I just tie it at the back of the dress, it still pulls it in slightly but not that tightly or noticeably.

    When Markle has been shown in something like a swim suit, it's fairly obvious she has no waist. A belt in where a waist should be only shows this more. She does have long legs which would be more attractive if they were more shapely.

    Beebs your hair looks very pretty today and the colour suits you.
    I wear belts with pants but always under a jacket or cardigan. I am a plus size gal. If I buy anything that comes with a tie belt, the belt is immediately discarded, I hate tie belts. I am fortunate in having a long torso with a defines waist, I guess you could say hour glass/pear. Long torso's can have their set backs too, like with the rise in pants, bodies and swimsuits not long enough. For this problem I shop in the tall section. I am not tall 5ft 4 ins so dress length can be a problem, quite often with a midi dress I have to shorten it as they hit at my not so long legs and make me look dumpy. Just below and covering my fat knees is best for me.
    Apart from her wide shoulders, as you say rightly, she has a short torso and for her belts end up almost under her bust.
    Why oh why do people tie a belt in a bow right in the middle, when they look much more flattering tied to one side.

    I have a large bust, short waist and long legs. I used to have an hour glass figure and could wear belts, but middle-aged spread has set in. Now a look that is actually flattering is say, a sweater dress, with a loose chain belt sitting more on my hips, with a little bit of chain and a medallion dragging the whole deal toward my feet. I don't know why this looks okay but it does!

  • @Xanastacia
    @Xanastacia ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You’re correct. Kate doesn’t even have an ‘ideal’ hour glass figure. Kate is also an inverted triangle but much more so than Meghan. Her shoulders are very broad but she has longer torso in comparison to her legs. Kates taller and also wears figure flattering clothing. If you look at pre duchess pics she too had some style mishaps. She tended to wear clothes that emphasized her broad shoulders and long torso which made her legs look shorter. Meghan has not learned. Her body type is more trunk like and if she only listened to stylist and chose more flattering clothes she too would look flawless. She needs to accept her body type. Instead she wears clothing meant for women with Marilyn Monroe and Katy Perry proportions and this is sloppy on her.

    Beebs as a woman that is an inverted triangle with a rectangular, short torso, I struggle greatly with finding clothes that look well on my body. The problem is that a lot of the information I find seems to contradict itself. Sometimes I read that belting gives the illusion of a waist but I can totally see on Meghan that belting doesn’t work. Can you make a more comprehensive video on how to dress this particular body type with visual examples? You are the first person I’ve watched that seems to really understand what works for this particular body type. And if you decide to do this video can you make it more SAHM friendly? I wear more casual clothes on the daily but I’d like to look put together, slimmer, and more flattering even if I’m home caring for my littles.

    A stylist helped my friend who has no waist and to give the illusion provided belts that drooped or had a vee shape, placing it on the hip bone rather than the waist. It elongated the torso but because it wasn’t straight across it didn’t accentuate her thickness. The vee, draped or u shaped belts also created an illusion of a waist but kept the eye moving so it was flattering. I have 2 friends that are straight without shape and they never wear belts or items that cut them in two like Meghan does. It’s strange because as an actress she had someone who chose clothes and a friend who was a stylist but despite spending a huge amount of money never learned anything from others.

    I am tall and slim, so I always wondered why belts made me look so stocky. I guess the torso makes the difference here. Interestingly, I do like to tuck the front of the t-shirt, it seems to define the waist/hip area a bit better. Subscribed! 😊
