I've just discovered (after 30+ years of track running) that I start with my dominant left leg and dominant left arm both forward! It seems I also need to correct this to a left leg/right arm start.

It's amazing that we can go that long without realising! I found it really interesting to slow down my start to see what I do to get into the correct position to run.

@@TheRunningMaster I'm going to see if I can get someone to film me starting, so I can see how I correct it too.

They are all doing it wrong. It amazes me that none of them have worked out that the fastest way to start is to have your weight on the back leg, that way there is none of that hesitation.

I'm not sure I agree. If your weight is on the back leg, then you have to first move your weight from back to front. Whereas if your weight is on the front leg you can fall forward into your first stride more easily.

@@clivewickham If you watch elite athletes there first move is backward on to the rear foot. I have found an advantage by having my weight on my rear foot and my first movement is forward.

@@mightbeanybody You've got me intrigued now. I'll be slowing down the footage when I next see some elite competition.

@@clivewickham That's what I did, slowed the first second or so down. Interestingly my England elite coach agrees with me.
