The album is now on bandcamp now for all those who want to support me and what I do owenkufta.bandcamp.com/album/gb01 It will be on Spotify January 27th. Thank you to everyone who has liked and left a comment. So far this is my best performing album and I'm really thankful for all the attention, even if it isn't that much.
can a brother get a highly detailed essay on the meaning of the songs and this album? this sounds sick btw, keep up the great work. favourite track is Humanity (in the bathroom stall graffiti)
1-52 (and really this entire album) is inspired by the piece “Good Boy, Bad Boy” by Bruce Nauman. I saw it at a local museum recently and was mesmerized. The line “it ran… out on ‘this is piss’” refers to the fact that there was no neon on the part of the sign that said “you piss” I forgot which one it actually was when I was recording, but it’s whatever. I came up with the name “Humanity (in bathroom stall graffiti” when I was in a rest stop in West Virginia and I was looking at the graffiti. I forgot exactly what was there, but it wasn’t necessarily anything dubious. The lyrics of the songs talk about when I was sick earlier this month. “Made some brownies and I thought I’d cry” eludes to when my girlfriend texted me while I was sick saying she was saving me a brownie. Pretty lights is kind of a nothing song in terms of meaning, mostly because it took me a few weeks to really come up with lyrics that I liked for it. The first verse is kind of about my girlfriend and such, the chorus is about “Good Boy, Bad Boy” again, with me wanting to drive to the museum to see it again but it’s like an hour away (not in Chicago). The final part of the song is kind of just cool imagery I thought up with a theme of reflection. Alexander Wept is about my insecurities while using some imagery from “Good Boy, Bad Boy” again. I feel like the song’s lyrics are little self-explanatory and there are too many to go over in this comment right now. Where We Started/My Favorite Movie is also about my relationship and how I don’t want to go back to being alone and pining over a crush. “Where we started” was the probably the most miserable time in my admittedly pretty great life. Thanks for the comment and having an interest in my music, it means a lot to me.
