Then she dropped out of school to marry & move away with him; her decision. When her parents gave her money for school, SHE decided to use that money to send Mark to school...something he didn't want to do. Then when they moved into that trailer, she fell into a life crisis & started thinking of going to college to become a doctor...with the possible intent on leaving him behind. Even Roseanna said she was being selfish. Sorry, but Dan was full of it when he made that statement. Mark didn't ruin Becky's life...Becky ruined Becky's life

@Nunya Bidness making David a Deadbeat dad is a pretty shitty move on their part. Like he was one of the few men in the cast that was positively depicted and was a weakling with no backbone to stand up to his snarky sarcastic girlfriend.
I wish they kept Glenn's character as this "lone wolf" type for the entire duration of the show instead of turning him into a guy that lacked common sense. They should have really capitalized and went with his character having streets smarts and being a great provider and protector for Becky that slowly gained Dan and Roseanne's respect.
In my 30s now, but grew up watching Roseanne. I forgot how much Dan reminds me of my father. Like the “I can stop you from seeing tomorrow”, is something I could totally see my old man saying…
A lot of you are talking about how possessive Mark was of Becky. Have any of you considered that he was like that because of the way his mom treated him? She kicked him out when he was 16. Maybe he didn't wanna lose Becky like he lost his mom. Everyone felt so sorry for David when they found out how abusive his mom was, but what about Mark? They were both a product of her treatment.
It is true that their treated them both horribly, and there was no excuse for it. However, being treated poorly does not give someone the right to ruin it for others. You still have free will. Mark made his choices, and so did David. David may have seemed more sympathetic, and maybe in some ways he was, but he also caused others problems with his own insecurities. Both made the mistake of expecting someone else to fix them, which dragged the people they supposedly loved down with them.
David went thru the same thing yet didn’t end up as controlling and possessive as Mark did! There is no excuse for Mark abusive and manipulative behavior!
Mark wasn't a great guy in the beginning but he really changed later in the series. He never forced Becky to do anything, he really loved her and supported her. Even when Becky made him feel like crap. I hate how they trashed him in the Connors. Dan actually grew to like Mark.
He was her downfall! He encouraged her to drop of high school so she follow him to another state for his job opportunities, than when married she hints at going to college he gets insulted and than proceeds to guilt her into giving her college money to make his dream come true and he winds up not even finishing mechanic school, wasting her parents money! Mark didn’t ruin Becky’s life, she did that on her own but he sure didn’t care to uplift her and help make her dreams come true because his dream was to just keep her for himself

After the fight with her parents and all the financial stress at home, Becky decided to go with Mark to Minnesota. It said at one point she was going to community college up there, but I don't know if they changed the story? As for Mark going to school and taking Becky's money, she made him do it. I remember him saying, "I never wanted to go to trade School, it was her idea, I'm not good at that stuff she should be the one going to college." I don't hate Becky or Mark, but Becky was always in control of their relationship. Since the beginning of the series she always managed to get her way by making it insanely difficult for everyone else and treating her parents like crap. Becky never did a thing she didn't want to do, which made her my least favorite character along with Darlene and David 🤣
Then fast forward 20 years, Dan and Becky in therapy: “when Mark talked you into quitting college I was going to go to Minnesota and kill him but your mother stopped me!”

He's a nice guy, but frankly, at his core he's lazy, as evident by putting in hardly in real initiative in Mechanic School, and wasteful, given that the money he used for it was originally Becky's. He had a way of manipulating Becky, which sent her in pretty much the exact opposite direction she envisioned her life going.
