    Coordinates (29.4731847, -81.7734366)
Ocala National Forest has its surprises….. like bears!!! Who would have thought there were bears in Florida!!
Hikers have a saying….”Early Bird gets a spiderweb to the face” VERY TRUE! If you wake up early…just as the sun is coming up…the forest shows you beauty that you cannot see at any other time of the day…… say like spiderwebs! For a VERY SHORT time the Forest covered in foggy mist transforms into a magical, beautiful, fairytale land!
    SO BEAUTIFUL!!
BUT THERE IS A DARK, DIRTY, STINKY side to this forest! Unfortunately, it’s caused by man! HUMAN WASTE EVERYWHERE! Come prepared people!!!! Pack it in-Pack it out!!! My heart hurts for this location as it is only a matter of time before camping is shut down all together!
Until then, I hope you get to visit! There is a quiet beauty! You’ll need to be looking for it…and I hope you find it!
ENJOY!!! And PLEASE, practice LEAVE NO TRACE!

I personally saw Dave spend about an hour helping two ungrateful men change their tire. They barely said thank you and Dave was as pleasant as could be. Dave and Carrie are what is best about Van Life and it is a pleasure to follow their Advantures . Merry Christmas and I hope we all can enjoy your talents and travels forever.

I was always taught to dig a hole (at least 30 ft or more from a water source like river or creek.) A foot deep ..if possible and cover waste back up with dug out dirt and pack it firmly....off the trail 6 feet or so and out of sight. This should be common sense anyway. That is a last resort if not even primitive out-house type facilities aren't even provided. What a bunch of lazy, nasty inconsiderate campers. I partially blame the state park rangers for not posting signs what show proper disposing procedures and strictly enforced...with expensive consequences..if caught not properly disposing one's waste.

I am so saddened to see this type of behavior and abuse by people who just don't care. So sad.... I hope others follow your lead. Thank you again for gifting me your kayak 🥰🥰. We just moved back to New England from St Augustine. Thanks for the beautiful video. Miss Florida. I know tourist areas are not your thing but there is so much history in St Augustine. I love how you pick up after others. When I was a kid, we lived in the woods. Our farmer neighbor used some of his land as a local landfill. Every Sunday my dad would take us on a hike along the road to pick up any trash that fell from vehicles. To this day I cannot walk by garbage without picking it it. Don't know how you did though Dave! I've never had to pick up human waste. You are amazing!

I see that you did your homework about the alligators but when I see your dog within even 10 feet of the waters edge I hold my breath. On the other hand as a Floridian since childhood we would regularly swim in the Hillsborough river in Tampa and never thought about the alligators at all but there was always a group of us kids splashing and making a lot of noise and we also had a rope swing. Unless someone has been feeding them they shy away from humans. I thank you for cleaning up that mess!

Paused at 12:00 to say that music with the tranquil morning was so perfect. Also, deep sigh, people can be SO trashy. Dave, you went above and beyond. Much respect man. I've done something similar at walking trails here in Ventura where people let their dogs just dump and leave it. It smells so bad, and yeah, that bag was heavy and full by the time I was done. Great job man.

Something else cleaning up a campsite does is maybe set a better example for the next folks. If folks see you-know-what all around they many times think it's OK for them to do the same thing. Back in the 1980s some places went to a $1,000 fine plus court costs for human waste, a good $5,000 fine plus costs would help to get some to bring their own bucket and toss their own waste in a bin. Need the local gas stations to sell the 3 gallon bucket with a toilet seat on top it would give the unprepared a method to use. Hope you guys have a Merry Christmas and stay safe and healthy.

I cannot believe you went in the river on that paddle board! Alligators are very large and can knock you off of a paddle board and make you disappear in an instant. PLEASE don't go out there again. Roodle was also way to close to the shore. Alligators lurk at shorelines and you can't see them in that murky water. Be safe. I was so worried about you while watching this! The images of nature are as usual incredibly beautiful, the spiderwebs between the trees look like parachutes. Thank you for picking up trash, picking up human waste, p[eople should know and do better. Hopefully it will be kept clean now if people find it cleaned up? I just got back from FL myself but was visiting family and have not been out in nature much other than in County Parks and on beaches. It's not the same. Thank you for posting. I so much enjoy and follow your travels. Merry Christmas to you!

Luv how the blue sky and cloud formations are mirrored on the river. Many paddle the river; as for me I’d rather have more structure beneath me and hidden gators. Don’t be fooled as they’re everywhere; massively large and small; often known to invade one’s screened in swimming pool. 🐊

Interesting! Carrie, I can't believe you went paddle boarding with the gators! I'm pretty brave, but not that brave. Thanks for your good work in cleaning up. I so wish people were more responsible and had more class.

I don’t do alligators! Therefore, my Florida camping would be somewhat limited. Thank you for your diligence in picking up trash that the “camping hogs” leave behind. I find that some people value their experiences based on what they pay for it, therefore, if something is free, in their mind, it has no value. Thus they trash it. Thanks again for restoring its beauty. FWIW, I’ll probably get an Advanced Element inflatable kayak for my paddling.

If you’re still in the area consider kayaking within the Silver Springs Park on Hwy 40, Silver Springs Blvd near Ocala, as there are escaped monkeys from Tarzan movie filmed years ago living in the trees back yonder. Local news showed footage from a fella that came upon them. 🛶

Back in the late eighty's five of us family's towed our 25/26 foot family cruisers down to the Keys from MN. On the way back we stopped in Sanford Florida and went on the St. Johns river. Weird fact is that it flows North. The water was very brackish and reminded me of boating on the Mississippi. Where the river narrowed it was a no wake zone. We talked to some guys and they were amazed we were from MN. We asked them why they were in a water ski boat? They said to waterski. We asked them where? They said as soon as we got out of the no wake zone they would start skiing again. We didn't believe them as we saw plenty of Gators on the shore and a few swimming. Sure enough right after the no wake zone one of the guys jumped in and slowly swam back to get the line tight and then started skiing. They said the Gators don't bother you. I would NEVER want to find that out. It did have small tributaries that were spring feed and crystal clear.

Thank you for doing the part to clean up. I appreciate folks like you who care. I am a native of Florida and grew up in Jacksonville. Looking back, I really never thought to much about alligators or ticks. I just go swim and run thru the forest without giving a second thought. Never had any issues.

Do y’all have a brochure on Florida’s snakes? Watch out for coral and pigmy rattle 🐍. Keep Roodle away from the palmetto bushes as the pigmy rattlers I’ve been told are known to hide out around the base of them.

It wouldn't hurt the national forest to put an outhouse and trashcan in that campground if they know its such a problem, I hope you showed them or complained, thats a shame people do that. Thank you for cleaning it up, it is such a beautiful area.
