People are asking about the Tabla player. In this recording tabla was played by Guruji Pt. Shankar Ghosh. As he is playing a " khula baaj " ( very masculine and bold strokes, mainly played by artists from Banaras and Punjab gharana ) people are confusing him with Banaras artists like pt. Anokhelal ji and Pt. Samta Prasad ji. But as his shagird (disciple) I know these critical ' Tihai ' formations and " wazandaar thaap " very well ! Pranam to Guruji ❤️🙏🏻❤️

Its true that we will never know someone who could play this instrument as good as Ustad Ali Akbar Khan . I love of all what he plays (Ragas) May God bless him .

Superb performance the great Maestro. To me it sounds very much like Pt Shamta Prasad on tabla, but happy to corrected. I think tabla players deserve to be mentioned too.

This great sarod exponent from the Maihar Gharana had created this immortal rendition of the raag Darbari Kanada in the spring of his life forever lighting up the hall of inspiration for all seekers of excellence.
    Truly unsurpassable!

A very fine piece indeed of Khan Saheb. I wonder, though, if not the concluding gat rather should be identified as Adana? An alap in Darbari, followed by a gat in Adana. Given their close family relations, like Mother and Daughter, it is quite possible.
    Thank you for sharing!

Raag Darbari & Jhinjhoti are the two signature raagas of Senia Maihar Gharana.

But I feel the best performances of Darbari in sitar have come from some legend from Imdadkhani gharana.

Sometimes i feel Sarod has more softness than sitar. Am i wrong?

To me, Sarod is more bold. It strikes at your heart.Sitar is subtle and ornamental. In a combination of both, sarod is considered a male and sitar a female.

Both have their own style of expressing the raaga and when anyone righty plays them both can go deep into the soul as I feel.

I think it depends on the sitarist. There's more brightness with sitar but Nikhil Banerjee seems softer than even rudra veena, often. Now, sarod is more soft if you mean a bit more blunt. But it's also more staccato.

I should correct myself. Tabla player is probably Pt. Kishan Maharaj or Pt. Sharda Sahai or some other student of Pt. Kanthe Maharaj. Definitely not Pt. Mahapurush Mishra who had a much different style.
