The worst thing to me what I learned was that Ali was calling out for Sang-woo with the term "Hyung" Which in Korean is basically what you'd call your older brother. He trusted Sang-woo so much that he thought of him as his brother. Also, Ji Jeong's death hits me the hardest, there's just something about a person smiling while knowing they're about to die, thanking someone else for the wonderful time spent together. The act of defiance I guess. To stand tall knowing you'll be 6 feet under soon.
Every squid game reaction video has this comment. Yes, a male calls his older brother hyung, but any man/boy call any well-known friendly older man/boy acquaintance hyung too. Hey! I’m just going to put a little bit of information here, because I’m not sure if the subtitles conveyed it very well during the scene. This is not a spoiler for the rest of the season. It’s just that something was revealed at the end of the fifth episode with the undercover detective, so I’m explaining it here just in case. I didn’t notice anyone mentioning something about it, so I’m typing this out. He was looking through the records dating back several years of this game. He’s trying to find out anything about his older brother who went missing some years ago. He finds a list of winners and says the name ‘Hwang In Ho’. Then he goes to find the profile of the winner that year and says, ‘Hyung’. In South Korea, ‘Hyung’ is a term used by men when they’re addressing their older brother or an older brother-like figure in their life. There are only a few last names used in South Korea so it’s quite possible for people to have the same whole name. We find out that the winner one year is Hwang In Ho. The detective goes to check the profile of that man and says ‘Hyung’ (when he sees the photo thereby being able to recognize his brother's face) so it is revealed that his brother won the game that year. He should have survived til the end then, but the detective hasn’t seen him in years. Honestly I can’t remember specifically when the older brother went missing. If they did mention the year, then I’m sure another clue is that supposedly his brother won the game in the year 2015; which would probably match the year he went missing as well. It was a nice reveal in this way when you get the context of what was going on. He said a name that we as the audience probably didn't know, but he recognized as his brother's name. Then he went to check the photo just in case it wasn't his brother, but a different guy with the same name. Finally it's not until he actually sees the photo where he's able to tell that the winner was, in fact, his brother. The mystery continues! He got some answers, but even more questions. Sorry this has been very wordy. Let me know if this needs further clarification! Haha I’ll try my best. It's been a lot of fun re-watching the season with you guys!
He went missing not long ago! When the detective goes to his goshiwon in an earlier episode, I think the landlady gives a certain time, but the detective tells her he'll pay for this month rent, suggesting that the brother was there to pay the previous month rent, so he must have been missing for a month or less. The landlady definitely would not have kept his stuff in there for five whole years, a couple of month at most and it would have been in the trash. It's also not been long since he didn't contact his family, since the detective wasn't much concerned and told his mom he'll go check on him. But yeah, the subtitles really don't do a good job with that character. I know there are two translations and that one is better than the other and less confusing, but I think he's watching the one that's less good. I've seen a few translated lines in this video alone that were less impactful or less clear than they're supposed to be. Not sure if they didn't hire good enough translators, if they didn't pay them enough for them to care more, or if the translators were given little time, but as a translator myself, some parts of the translation are a little bit sloppy, unfortunately. Hopefully they got a bigger budget for season 2 and the translation will be more accurate/fitting!
@@manon_0411 Yes! I also thought it was strange and didn't make a lot of sense (like have they been paying his rent all this time just in case he came back?), so I went back and watched the scene from the second episode. He talks to his mom on the phone and then the landlady lets him into the apartment. The show didn't specify how long he's been gone, but it must've been recent. The landlady said the older brother didn't pay the rent the last week so she's been checking to see if he's back every day since. Haha sorry about that; I haven't watched the show properly since it came out. Thank you so much for commenting! Yup I understand exactly how you feel. It gets annoying when you start to understand the language more and then the subtitles aren't conveying the impact of what's going on. I noticed a couple of other times as well. One of the ones that threw me off is when they're in pairs in this last episode and they find out that one of them is going to pass away. There's the pair with a man and a woman and when they find out, she turns to him and says, 'Yeobo', but the subtitles said something like 'Oh boy'. I'm pretty sure 'yeobo' is a term of endearment reserved mostly for married couples, so it solidified what we already thought of them. Now we know there's no way out of it and one of them is going to die after this game. A lot of the emotional impact wasn't there when we just read 'Oh boy'. When you understand the context better, your heart drops further with each new information presented to you. They did not skip with the emotional beats during this show! There are other things to critique, but not that. Haha here's hoping for season 2!

I mean, there's a lot to say about especially episode 6, but just in terms of sheer writing and performance, this extrapolation of the character is so good.
It's coercion. The players are in such severe financial trouble that society essentially forces them to participate in the game. The creators exploit this desperation, knowing the participants have no other viable options.
It's coercion yea, and at first they didnt know what they were getting into, but they had a chance to get out. They got out, and they decided to go back.

Easily the best episode of the show I loved how for this episode they had the main horrible guy play pretty honourably and plain (just throwing marbles in a hole, hell he even USED the rules to his advantage in that game) It was a perfect opportunity for letting all the main main characters get their own episode/moments in a way
Also regarding what you said here 45:34 - You were concerned about "People who actually care about each other turning on them" - I'm sorry but if Sang-Woo cared about Ali he would not have snapped and showed his true colors out of desperation and frustration. He always looked annoyed whenever Ali was too nice, in the end he used it against Ali. I'll never forgive Sang-Woo for this. Sang-Woo also had a funny way of caring about Gi-hun in the 3rd episode when he refused to tell him he figured out they were going to play the honeycomb game. When Gi-Hun told Sang-Woo he was gonna pick Umbrella he had the chance to spare him of the nearly impossible task, but he chose to let him take his chance so Sang-Woo can focus on his survival. They even showed a brief flashback in the beginning of episode 4 where Gi-Hun remembered that Sang-Woo wanted to tell him something but changed his mind. Gi-Hun was being the bigger person when Sang-Woo was being sorry only because he didn't think that Gi-Hun would have survived the game.
It's even worse than that. He didn’t just LET him pick a nearly impossible shape, but he SUGGESTED they all split up, clearly trying to screw them all over.
I'm honestly more mad at him for the dalgona challenge than what he did to Ali. Like, I was fuming when I saw it and was sobbing - but I actually think a lot of people would do something like that if their own life was on the line. He even set up the betrayal so he wouldn't have to face him when he realised. I don't think I could be so ruthless but I know a few people that I think would be able to bring themselves to do something like this if it was their life and family on the line. It's absolutely horrible and easily the most heartbreaking scene in the entire show for me - but I tend to think the worst of humanity and I'm positive that many people would act in a morally reprehensible way if it was a life or death situation.
I always wondered why he’d want to kill off the only people who would have his back. It seemed stupid, and I thought it was more pragmatic to wait until they’d narrowed down the competition. I considered he didn’t want to get close to them, but obviously that’s never impacted his decisions at all. But on second watch, I realize how weak everyone on the team was from the start. So he probably wants to drop the dead weight and form better partnerships, even though I still feel like he’d have none of that trust with others.
The three biggest cryfests in K-drama history are in Goblin (Guardian), Hotel Del Luna and episode 6 of Squid Game. The most upsetting scene in the zombie series 'All of Us Are Dead' (episode 3) featured the same actress as this episode of Squid Game.
Oh my gosh, I didn't even realise she was Lee Na-yeon 😮 she looks so different with the hair/style. She's amazing in All of us are Dead too. Absolutely fantastic show.

For real tho Sangwoo's tactic in Tug O War was fantastic. The opposing team is already pulling back. Throw them off by giving them an extra foot to compensate for, and while theyre trying to recover, take advantage of their chaos to rebalance.
It tore my heart out to watch selfless good be paired with selfish bad cause you could tell which one would lose right off the bat and it still hurt so tremendously when it happened. I know he was doing what he had to do in order to survive but the way he did it was so evil.
When you realise they had to have the "fight night" to bring the numbers of players down to the exact one needed for tug of war.... Can't have uneven numbered teams ;-)
"Whoever this person is that is making these games has justified this sadistic thing....and I don't buy it for a second.... so far, not impressed with this guy" 😳
It’s been a while since I watched it but one thing I’m still not sure on is how all the pink soldiers somehow recognised each other. Like they greeted each other by room number despite all wearing exactly the same jumpsuit and mask. How did they know he was 29?!
the masks have some type of ID encoded into them. you can see the one masked guy scan Joon-ho's mask when he entered the room where they were performing surgery.
48:44 Idk if yk but Korea is a actually SUPER conservative country. Not only that but SK also has a massive cult problem. They did this a bit bc they made JI hyeok (Sorry if i spelt it wrong or got the name wrong) talk about how horrible her father was, and bc he was a priest, prayed for forgiveness. Thats why she was a bit harsh, talking to that guy.

53:52 little grammatical error with the translation. She actually said “thank you… for playing with me” instead of “I’m honoured… that we were partners”. Honestly makes it 10x sadder. This episode was horrible to watch
It's the CC subtitles. There are countless errors like that. E.g. in the scene where the wife realises she will be playing against her husband, in the CC subtitles says "oh boy" instead of "honey", which is 1000x more profound
i have a few unpopular opinions, but my most unpopular one might be that sangwoo is my favorite character. he is very complex. he clearly has remorse and guilt for his actions (although he shows his emotions less than gi-hun) but has committed everything to winning the game because he has more than himself at stake, much like gi-hun.

I loved how for this episode they had the main horrible guy play pretty honourably and plain (just throwing marbles in a hole, hell he even USED the rules to his advantage in that game)
It was a perfect opportunity for letting all the main main characters get their own episode/moments in a way
Nobody makes it past Gganbu without crying.
They killed off two of the sweetest characters in that last game. That episode breaks your heart
And we are not talking about the old man
@nicollevitorianovaisvicent8511 I wasn't no.
And I'll never forgive what he does to the 067 girl later.
@ SPOILER bro
The three biggest cryfests in K-drama history are in Goblin (Guardian), Hotel Del Luna and episode 6 of Squid Game. The most upsetting scene in the zombie series 'All of Us Are Dead' (episode 3) featured the same actress as this episode of Squid Game.
Train to Busan broke me 💔
Oh my gosh, I didn't even realise she was Lee Na-yeon 😮 she looks so different with the hair/style. She's amazing in All of us are Dead too. Absolutely fantastic show.
@@nope.2284 same actress but totally different character like completely opposite
I’ve seen ep6 so many times and it still makes me cry. The few kind ppl left die within a matter of minutes
Awwww I could think of is your poor heart when I saw the thumb nail 😢❤
Ugh…I’ve been dreading this reaction to episode 6😭 No matter how many times I’ve watched it, I cry like a baby. Ali was my favorite from the beginning & I hate how his ending is by manipulation/betrayal.
I don’t think I’ve cried this hard (at least since my very first watch through) to any reactor, but golly I hated seeing you cry to this🥺
I really can’t wait for the next upload though!
For real tho Sangwoo's tactic in Tug O War was fantastic. The opposing team is already pulling back. Throw them off by giving them an extra foot to compensate for, and while theyre trying to recover, take advantage of their chaos to rebalance.
I'm just loving how much he knows and genuinely cares about tug of war strats
“For every person who dies, you earn more” Charlie, welcome to the US health insurance system.
I LOVE how real you are!!!
it never fails to surprise me how intuitive this guy is !!
he’s not ready for the plot twist of his life
I really like ur commentary cause ur very empathetic and it’s refreshing to hear
Ali was my favorite character 😢
I love your reactions, you are so genuin and spontaneus. I wish I could have friend like you ❤️
44 seconds ago is a new record for me
Love your reactions as always- yeaaaah that last episode was a big ooof
Remember, 001 survived the Korean War, so he's seen some shit
It tore my heart out to watch selfless good be paired with selfish bad cause you could tell which one would lose right off the bat and it still hurt so tremendously when it happened. I know he was doing what he had to do in order to survive but the way he did it was so evil.
When you realise they had to have the "fight night" to bring the numbers of players down to the exact one needed for tug of war.... Can't have uneven numbered teams ;-)
Exactly, the playmaster was prepared to put the lights on and send the soldiers, if they reach the number for playing tug of war
8:45 Sae-byeok means "Dawn". Her personality isn't really congruent with the name..
The minute I saw you were going to do Squid Games, I instantly wanted to see how you'd handle Ep. 6.Poor thing
Thank you!
You literally made my week with this! That was so generous. Thankyou!!
I’ve watched this show quite a few times and episode 6 will go down as one of the most tear shedding episodes I watched of all time
"Whoever this person is that is making these games has justified this sadistic thing....and I don't buy it for a second.... so far, not impressed with this guy" 😳
Yes! You made my day by dropping the reaction today 💜💜
You can’t imagine how this video cheered up my day man, just what I needed❤
It’s been a while since I watched it but one thing I’m still not sure on is how all the pink soldiers somehow recognised each other. Like they greeted each other by room number despite all wearing exactly the same jumpsuit and mask. How did they know he was 29?!
I think they also have the chips?
the masks have some type of ID encoded into them. you can see the one masked guy scan Joon-ho's mask when he entered the room where they were performing surgery.
At an unjustifiable level of power over other people, "principles" can only really be rationalizations
YESSS MORE SQUID GAME REACTION ❤🎉 oh boy your heart is gonna get broken 😢 was tearing up watching the 6th episode again but also your reaction 😭
"What a sick twisted relationship with money"
*Describes the US healthcare system* lmfao
The marble episode made me cry harder than anything I‘ve watched before 😢
have a marble-ous christmas
Oooofff
48:44 Idk if yk but Korea is a actually SUPER conservative country. Not only that but SK also has a massive cult problem. So yea, religion (particularly Christianity & shamanism) is often a common talking point in kdramas like these. So in case u ever decide to go futher down the kdrama rabbit hole, js be warned that they like to criticize religion A LOT 😅😅😅
They did this a bit bc they made JI hyeok (Sorry if i spelt it wrong or got the name wrong) talk about how horrible her father was, and bc he was a priest, prayed for forgiveness. Thats why she was a bit harsh, talking to that guy.
Even through reactions I cry at that last episode!!
The did not say nobody should hurt each other at the start of the show, the said they wouldn't let anyone interfere with the deomcratic vote about staying or leaving.
I'm a girl, and in school I was the tug of war champion. I've always been heavy and had insanely strong legs.
Dinner time and this reaction!! Perfect!!
2:53 "Only During Voting"
Player 001 old man o li-nam faked his death by losing in marbles and yes I was talking about that and he was the creator of squid back in 1980s according to the files in season 1 and the first game of squid game very played was in 1988 acording to the files in season 1 and I edited this comment again
You mean the thing they explain at the end of the season? 😆
We can still celebrate the holidays with Squid Game. S2 drops the day after Xmas...my birthday! Happy birthday to meeee. 🎉
The teary "Happy holidays, far out!" took me OUTT 😂
You have to react to „Shutter Island“. Its such an perfect movie 🤘🏼👍🏼👍🏼 but…great job on this one👍🏼
The rule against violence was that you can’t use violence to influence the voting process. You’re allowed to use violence outside of that.
ep 6 was so heartbreaking
The tug of war scene was my fav in the series. It was very Anime, it was awsm
Super impressed that you knew the perfect strategy for tug of war!
Love your vids man ❤
The betrayal thoughhhhh.
It cut me so hard the first time I watched it. Horrendously sad.
The sixth episode really highlights the best and worst of humanity.
I'm watching you watch these on Christmas day lol, merry Christmas!
24:42 oh man you're not ready
53:52 little grammatical error with the translation. She actually said “thank you… for playing with me” instead of “I’m honoured… that we were partners”. Honestly makes it 10x sadder. This episode was horrible to watch
It's the CC subtitles. There are countless errors like that. E.g. in the scene where the wife realises she will be playing against her husband, in the CC subtitles says "oh boy" instead of "honey", which is 1000x more profound
Can't wait to watch this man lose his mind during the last episode.
EPISODE 6 will for ever kill me inside
36:56 that aged well lmao
i have a few unpopular opinions, but my most unpopular one might be that sangwoo is my favorite character. he is very complex. he clearly has remorse and guilt for his actions (although he shows his emotions less than gi-hun) but has committed everything to winning the game because he has more than himself at stake, much like gi-hun.
I’m crying myself to sleep now.
The sixth episode was sad but the last episode 😮.
Loved your reaction to such an amazing series. Big hi from Mexico!
Glad you are enjoying the show , I would recommend another great show for jiyeong that I believe you will enjoy it , the show name is All of us are dead , it’s a zombie show but kind of unique
After you finish Squid Game, please react to The Glory. It is THE BEST korean drama ever!!!
Sheesh give the poor guy a break! 😂
Oh mate…ep 6 is just….brutal
It’s such a gut wrenching episode
You remind me of me when I saw that episode. Good times...good times. xD ^_^
Happy Holidays 😭
things with elderly people hit me so hard
Episide 6 just rips your heart out man 😢 the purpose being to rip apart the people from whoever is their most trusted
Oh my this is gonna be crazy 😂
Oh gosh, the episode that hurts the most imo is in this lineup...
Hugs in advance for your next reaction, especially if it lands on Christmas Day. ♥️
Episode 6 is just... so brutal. i cried so hard when i watched it i got hiccups 😂
Oh Oscar... I just wanna give you a big hug ❤
37:24 Oh man, the irony
love this reviewsssss!!!
All due respect Oscar…I’m pretty sure Christians are the ones who have thrown themselves under the bus. I was raised extremely Christian. And I left as soon as I could, along with a lot of trauma, which is a common story for so many people I know. I’m glad you are still lucky enough to have the faith you were raised with, but there’s a hell of a good reason why religion gets a bad name. Love your reactions man - keep it up.
If you haven’t already, you should try watching a few of the Studio Ghibli films. Love your videos 💖
if you love this show you should definitely watch all of us are dead! it was originally a comic that turned into a show its also korean just so you know and season 2 might be coming out very soon!!
