The Vince Clark tracks are easily my favorite of the essentials cds... His precision needs to be further examined. JMJ you need to produce an entire NEW CD with Dr. Clark....It would be EPIC !!!!
Vince Clarke (born Vincent John Martin; 3 July 1960) is an English synthpop musician and songwriter. Clarke has been the main composer and musician of the band Erasure since 1985, and was previously a member of several groups, including Depeche Mode, Yazoo and The Assembly.
Despite my previous comment, these were two of my synth heroes in the 1980s (and henceforth) ...so different though in their respective styles. I would never have forseen back then that the two of them might come together. Thumbs up.

Honestamente, não vejo isto acontecendo pois são duas fazes completamente distintas em termos de sonoridade para o DM. O conteúdo mais dark e experimental do Martin não combina com a levesa quase etérea das composições do Vince. Eles até lançaram um album em parceria mas aí é outra proposta bem diferente da pegada "depechemodeana"
Whilst I think JMJ has great production skills and knows how to get the best sounds out of his instruments + some great ideas I just think Vince is more concise with his creativity (no doubt because he has gone for the shorter "popsynth" approach (a term I dislike as I feel he is better than the label)) and arguably covers more compositional ground. So I think the two meeting is great and I hope they continue....maybe write a film score or something....
I wrote a mini-thesis on the difference in importance to music in the late 20th century between Vince and JMJ, but it disappeared into the aether. I'm just not going back to do it again for no wages, yakna'tamean?
We all know JMJ was a very important figure for getting worldwide audiences to listen to the timbres available to anyone who could be bothered to stack rack after rack of subtractive synthesis gear; tone generators, filters, modulators, etc and then pile a heap of FM gear on top and plug it all together with our imaginations as the only limit. And whilst I too would have had the patience to do exactly that, nevertheless my hat is off to the man. However, now that we have good quality software emulators, you need neither the effort nor space, and not even as much money to start out: where are these bedroom innovators? That said, for a muso like myself, I dare say many of us could get lost for a whole afternoon sweeping the "Q" manually over 16 bars of arpeggio... But didn't Vince have something else? Doesn't it take a brass pair the size of the Thames Flood Barrier to look around you at Heavy Metal, Prog Rock, Punk Rock, New Wave, New Romantics, hell even Ska, and say to yourself...
I love the fact that Vince doesn't know he is also a legend....love him.
Vince was always modest, he never considered himself famous or a celebrity. In fact, he ran from celebrity status.
He knows it very well 😉
