My favorite Tony Bird song is Nothing but Time. I still listen to his music often. I only saw him in person once when he visited Tacoma, Washington where he played at the Antique Sandwich Co. in the late 1980's. I will never forget him and his music. May he rest in peace. Gary
Met Tony while doing Arts n Crafts music festivals in southern Ontario in the 80s. He hung with us for a few shows, Mariposa, Northern Lights, Thunder Bay and Manitoulin Island. Loved the guy and his music.
Sad news for all who knew Tony or enjoyed his music. On Wednesday, April 17, 2019, Tony Bird died in New York City (in hospital) of complications and metastases of prostate cancer which had been diagnosed in early 2018. He will be missed by many. There is a GoFundMe for Tony if interested in contributing to funeral, medical costs.
Aside from being a GREAT under rated artist Tony was years ahead of others. A terrific singer and writer his music was the inspiration for Paul Simon's 'Graceland' . Tony continues performing to this day...treat yourself to one of his shows and any of his albums that you can lay your hands on. 'Sorry Africa' is available on CD. Peace and enjoy the music.
I saw his show at the Killaloe Craft Fair early 80's small side stage on a super day, sunny and hazy ;-) still listen to a cassette tape of a recording from an Lp great tunes...
so underrated, under the radar. first thought he was a black Malawian when i first heard him the Rift Valley song is the one....listen carefully to all of it....the humor, the metaphysics, yeah, frakin metaphysics.
As much as I enjoy Tony's talent, this version had me wondering why he re recorded his own original which was first featured on the album "Tony Bird of Paradise" His recording on that latter album, is a classic, Anyone interested in a copy of the original recording of this track can contact me at tommyg109@gmail.com. As far as I am aware, this album is not available digitally, and it is a great album; every song is a gem. The album is probably one of the greatest little known albums.
i met him in new haven when he performed for the greater new haven acoustic music society and bought a copy there. i agree it is a phenominal piece of work. i am hoping to book him up here in vermont
No waste of time! Keeps the memory alive and well and as you say, digital recording unavailable for most albums. would be interested in copies of all his recordings if you have access please? Thank you.

I saw Tony Bird several times live in the Mid 70s at the Troubadour in London RIP
Oh I am so sad to hear of Tony's passing. His music was so hypnotic and full of strong images, and he was such a fine man.
