    Major Terry really looks like a Canadian soldier. Right shoulders position, he always keeps some voice level if someone answers before he gives an answer.

    I wonder if Mercer asked these guys in private, how they feel about Harper claiming to worship the military and yet abandoning the vets (especially when they come home wounded)?

    @arsenelupin123 The monarchy isn't really doing anything in Canada but in Britain it's an excellent source of money. Lots of people say "Oh look that must be super expensive" but the profits coming in from tourism outweigh the expenses paid for the Monarchy.

    RMC is the most selective university in Canada, with something like a 2000:1 ratio of applicants to students.
    I hardly think they need the CBC - even with its long history of shilling for the military and conservative interests in this country* - to offer them free time for recruiting.
    The show is supposed to feature different elements of Canadian society. It's a shame that you believe that none of that time should be devoted to the CF..
    *that was sarcasm, in case you didn't recognise it

      I don't know about the rest of Canada, but in Toronto the ratio of applicants vs ones who were selected to go to RMC in 2011 was 500:1. I was one of them. There were about 25 people from GTA who were selected. Most of them are still serving as officers in the CAF. 25x500= 12,500 applicants.

    @arsenelupin123 The monarchy is a Canadian institution. She may live in the UK, but one of her titles is the Queen of Canada. She is our head of state, we are a fully independent nation.
    @Rayden150 If you say that, then who are we? What is Canada? The nation of Canada is the sum of its history, the people who are living it, and the decisions we make for our future. If you completely disreguard our past, you also loose our accomplishments, and the one of the things which make us who we are

  • @Canuck896

    Well put fellow Canuck Canada, and Canadian forever! We are more than just land and dirt and laws. Canada is the people the Canadian people and values we have. IE the rule of law, honour and justice.

    @Southparker100000000 Searching for it on amazon, and the online catalogues for the top university in Canada and the U.S. No results found. Although judging from the title the "physical analysis" of a country would do nothing but support the fiction of the nation state.

    @arsenelupin123 eh. don't apologize, your freedom of speech is what makes this a great country. i just wanted to let you know that the queen doesn't have much power in any country that was part of the British empire, hell even the UK doesn't need the monarchy in any real advice. same with most countries that had monarchies it has lost everything in terms of power. imo i think of it as the monarchy helping Canada as an icebreaker and gives us a reminder of where we came from.

    @arsenelupin123 calm down man, the queen has as much power over the country as the emperor of Japan has over the tides of the sea. the fact that we pledge allegiance to her is the same as saying "god keep our land" in the National anthem, only Really PC people get bent over stuff life that.

  • @arsenelupin123
    @arsenelupin123 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @treetheoak
    I know she doesn't have power and if you knew me you'd see I'm not typically PC. It's sad but symbols matter in politics, and I don't like the idea to have a government promoting the symbols of a foreign institution that is the antithesis of our independence as a country. That's all.
    And I probably look more angry than I actually am. I am just irritated. I couldn't possibly take that pledge honestly. Take it easy, I appreciate your civil tone.

    I still don't know how this makes any sense. If one of Barack Obama's titles was prime minister of Canada, I don't see I we could be independent of the U.S. The only reason you can say that is because she has no power and is a pure symbol? Ok fine, then the only reason we didn't get rid of it is diplomatic. Anyway I agree that we should not discard our past, that not my intention, and Quebecers would be glad to hear you say that...

    @Rayden150 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @arsenelupin123 Uhh, it's a bit too much for you huh?, man that must really hurt then. That doesn't make the least sense, I mean what harm is this doing to you, does putting photos up, create some sort of beam that hits you, Every country has a picture of their head of state in their embassies. Get some education.

    @TheSilverWatch What's with your unwarranted hate of Stephen Harper? Has he done something horrible to you personally or do you just disagree with his politics? I've disagreed with Jack Layton's politics or in fact all libs who no respect for the military, christianity and the monarchy, yet I didn't hate Jack or wish him any harm. Also Christians make up the majority of Canada so have some respect, not everyone is an atheist like you.

    Yeah. That's why I am a bit concerned when the Tories force all embassies to have photos of the royal family, and reinstitute royal symbols. I don't really care that we have remnants of the monarchy in our culture, but advocating for it is too much for me.

    I am Canadian.
    I know we are independent. I just don't like the symbols. Now explain to me how monarchies with the same monarch are distinct. Are monarchies defined by something other than the monarch? I would love to be... educated.
    Both monarchies and republics have had success in the past, so I don't know where you get this. But the fact it's more effective doesn't mean it's desirable. And last time I checked I had the right to express my politics without being forced to exile.

    Australia and New Zealand, which are Commonwealth countries, don't have such a policy. So get your facts straight become to tell me to get an education.
    I happen to believe that monarchy is a useless remnant of history and that Canada should be a fully independent state, governed by its people, not a monarch. We call this a political belief. I have no problems in letting those symbols slowly vanish for diplomatic reasons. But I don't believe restoring them is the way to go.
