    As a child, my mother read these books and later in life, I couldn’t get enough of them. They stand here in my library shelves. I have to look to see if I can find more. Thank you.

    I am now 90 years old and I was 16 when I read my first Catherine Cookson novel since then I have read many more over the years. This documentary was very interesting and sad at the same time to think that she lost four babies but nevertheless her strong willand a loving husband helped her to overcome that sadness and inspired her to write. Giving many of us the opportunity to enjoy her stories. 57:52

    I enjoyed learning more about this prolific author. But I have a question: was there only one picture of Catherine Cookson taken in her whole life? And no pictures of her husband? Or her mother or grandparents? I always find pictures important if not worth a thousand words.

    I have enjoyed every one of Catherine's novels❤
    Edit: being called "bastard" lived on well into the 1960's here in the US. My oldest brother spent the majority of his adult life trying to out-run the slur.

    Love the story. I so wish I could mute the music. Couldn’t continue listening because of it. It’s not necessary and is distracting.

    • @tanyabrewer991
      @tanyabrewer991 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    What a biased, anti-Catholic documentary. I didn't know that when a child follows NO religion and you introduce her to one you are 'forcing' this religion upon the child? She also strongly suggests that her step-grandfather being Catholic caused trouble in her grandparents' home. I wonder how much of this rubbish is to be taken seriously.

    • @donna1420
      @donna1420 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Nonsense. She is stating facts. It was different times and Catholicism in that area was not widespread. Bigotry was.

    • @Fleety15
      @Fleety15 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is absolutely true. Catholics were fed hellfire and damnation so they didn’t dare ‘sin’. Having said that they were forgiven if they confessed and did penance. How could anyone possibly paint the Catholic Church any worse than what they did themselves?

    • @jeanettereynolds3151
      @jeanettereynolds3151 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We never saw Catholic church in 1950 don't forget to answer your comment no Catholic would live in poor community Catholic nuns were cruel over fed money biased even today
