Nikki great video as always.Up here in NE Wisconsin the yellow jackets were bad this year. What helped with me was I put an open feeder about 50yards away. That helped keeping them mostly away from the hives. This weekend we are starting to wrap the hives cause nights are getting down to freezing been feeding 2:1 for a month now.Thank you for your inspection tips they helped alot.

Thank you so much. Everyone I've talked to so far says they have been bad. We had a great spring but not so great fall. It's starting to get chilly here but still pretty warm for October.

Thank you!! I checked my hive yesterday and they have tons of uncapped nectar and not much honey. I was worried but sounds like yours are still working on capping theirs too. I am in lower Michigan and last year they had full frames of honey at this time.

They are everywhere at my house. Oddly, I have seen so many bald faced hornets up by the house this year. I rarely see them most years.

Are you going to winter in 2 deeps? It seems to me that you dont have enough bees to support 2 deep boxes and your frames aren't heavy enough for feeding them to spring. I consolidated down to one deep box and it weighs ~95 lbs give or take a bee. I dont plan to feed them over winter. I hope you do a spring look see on how they did. Thx

I am planning to. These videos are a bit behind because of filming and editing. Usually what I upload is filmed about two weeks prior. I don't want to skip ahead but they pick up pretty significantly in the coming weeks. I plan on doing this series through till spring. What do you think overall of your first year?

@@sweetbeefarms I learned a lot from installing a package to watching them grow, to swarming and leaving Q-cells, to splitting a hive, to requeening (twice), to raising a nuc, to harvesting honey, to consolidating the hive to hopefully watch them make it through winter. Not bad for a first year. A few more years like this and I'll bee an expert or give it away.

You really got to experience it all on your first year. Those girls kept you on your toes. Being able to harvest on your first year is incredible and so rewarding.
