    Every time I used to tune into this channel I was amazed at how far and how fast Alec, with the help of Will, turned that Montana shop into one of the finest high tech blacksmith shops in the country. It is a testament to what is possible when you are focused on a goal and are willing to put whatever effort it takes to accomplish that goal. It is also amazing to see what happens when you introduce one variable into that formula and lose that focus. Will is gone, the Montana shop has been abandoned, and Alec is back in an old shop he left behind in England to struggle alone using equipment from the old Soviet empire to complete projects. Well, at least the wife is happy, right?

    If alec ever gets a crucible again I would live to see him make nordic gold (a gold-coloured copper alloy made of 89% copper, 5% aluminium, 5% zinc, and 1% tin) and make some projects with it. It's a gorgeous alloy and could make for some beautiful pieces. Love everything you do alec, and your hard work to still give us content in these trying times.

    When making the fuller, you clamp a sacrificial piece alongside the fuller to keep the burr from gouging the workpiece when you slip.

  • @jonflannery8984
    @jonflannery8984 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m learning quite a bit about these processes by watching your channel. I’ve had a little experience with die grinders and carbide end mills and/or burrs in my profession as an industrial maintenance tech. I’ve found that with any rotary tool it naturally wants to pull in one direction over the other due to it spinning in one direction. Anyways to the point: I suggest trying to orient your project and or tool so that this inherent “pull” works in your favor. In the case of the fuller that orientation would be perpendicular to the length of the fuller. That way if there’s a momentary lack of attention or you just run into the tool biting a little too hard the tool will want to pull in the direction of the fuller and would be easier to correct if not hidden all together by further tooling. A very long winded suggestion I realize but just wanted to offer some advice that’s helped me in the past. Glad I discovered your content and hope to continue learning by tuning in. 👍

    When using your micro motor. It helps massively with slipping if you have an old hard wax candle that you run your burr on every now and then. It helps lubricate the burr. It lasts longer. And gives you waayyy more control
