Prefer the original form, but I don't really take any issues with the buybacks. I think it could be helpful possibly, for newer and younger collectors too, that can learn more about the players from yester year. So, to me I don't know if they are altered, but just not my personal preference either. Though could be cool to someone, which is great.
@@ACD1994great point about the younger fans, Andrew. I should have mentioned that in the video. There are some cards that I think the stamp would be too much and I’d rather not have the buyback. The placement of it is important to me and the rarity of star cards makes it attractive to me. Thanks for your comment
Thanks for explaining buybacks. U make me really think about collecting them for myself. Merry Christmas 🎄 to you and your family. Happy belated birthday 🎉👏💃
Hugo, you KNOW I loved this episode, my friend! Buybacks galore! You have such an awesome collection of these already. I love that you found a Clemente TBTC to match the ones from that video. Your Al Oliver pair is insanely cool, I’ve never seen another copy of the RC stamped. I have so much to say that I’ll have to take it to text instead. Thanks for the kind words pal, I’m grateful we get to share in this awesome hobby together. 👊😃
Scoring great rookie cards is so much fun. Just the hunt of it and then actually finding one is as much fun as I’ve had in the hobby. I’ve come across some that I regret not getting because I haven’t seen them since. What a blast it’s been so far and I’m excited to see what else we can find out there. Thanks Shane!
Huge huge stacks of buybacks ! Shane is just unloading his collection pans we are reaping the benefits! What a guy! You have some straight fire though geez. You were the first one to tell me about Richard when I found one of his RC’s in a dime box. Such a sweet buyback ttm. Shoutout to Vera with the gift! I’m sure you got on her nerves as a kid with all of you baseball talk constantly while she was trying to watch Wham videos . 😂 Yeah boy🎉🎉🎉
Wham! I think you hit the nail on the head with that one 😄 I wasn’t really paying attention though, I was too busy reading the back of Donruss cards. Maybe I’ll go after some of their buybacks too. If there was a female version of Mt. Stachemore but it was 80’s hair bangs, Vera would be on it!
Thanks for the information on the buybacks. I never paid much attention to these types of cards. I always thought these stamp cards were reprints of the original. Thanks for the knowledge, Profe! That's my BOY!!!
Dude your 72’ leaders card has to be my favorite as that card is already one of my fave leaders cards of all time !! That Al Oliver is a sickooo and one touch worthy for sure 😜
Yes, buybacks! I think it is so cool that somebody pulled them out of packs, Topps bought them and they were pulled out of a pack a second time. Shane is the king of buybacks. He influenced me to do a buyback Frankenset. I’m about 2/3rds complete.
Gave a video like. I enjoy buybacks and find them fun. I love how kids can find those in products and be able to look those players up and learn about them from the past. I would imagine they are some kids first vintage cards in their collections which is pretty neat. It is also really awesome you, Shane, and others are shining light on bridge players. Their stories should be remembered. Great episode and awesome cards, Hugo!
Thank you, Brian! Great point about the younger collectors being introduced to vintage or old school player because of these. Hopefully a lot do become interested and can keep the legacy of these bridge players going. I appreciate you watching
Yeah I’ve been quiet about them but it was time to do a video. There are some really cool ones out there for most players which I think is a fun way to collect. Thanks Lou
Sweet cards Hugo! I wouldn’t call altered since they were stamped and re-issued by Topps. I don’t collect them but I think they are really cool and I’m sure fun to collect!!
A few of my greatest most fun and exciting pulls of my life were goudey buy backs in packs blew my freaking mind to pull an original 33’ goudey in a pack. Loved this Hugo. 1 card challenge hmmmm 🤔🤔 going to have to start thinking 🤙🤙
I’m still trying to learn more about buybacks so I’m not qualified to give an answer but I have been interested in getting some buybacks ever since I came across Shane’s channel! Happy belated birthday as well, thanks for sharing and have a great week!
Thank you for the birthday wishes! I appreciate that! The buybacks are fun to check out. Once you find one of a card that you really like it gets addictive searching for them. Good luck if you decide to go after some!
The Pirates are your favorite team, just admit it! 😂 Buy backs are super cool, love that you are amassing such a great buy back collection! Topps needs to do that with bigger cards and make kids chase them in the present. Imagine a 55 Clemente buy back! Love the Buc Aces card, that’s crazy cool! Great job Hugo!
I love buybacks! I don't have many of them, but I do appreciate them! I considered doing a Franken-set like Shane, and think it would be a fun (and long) journey.
That would definitely be a fun journey… and long! I think it’s a great thing to try and complete, though. Little by little you’ll get it. Thanks for watching and your comment, Eric
The first time I heard Shane talk about buybacks I knew I was going to always look for them. It’s been fun man! When I found that triple auto I couldn’t believe what it had gone through to get to me. Pretty cool stuff. Thanks Brent 👊
You asked for opinions or I wouldn't give mine. I am probably in the minority in that I don't want a stamped card. I'd rather have the original. But in the end we each collect what we like. Have a good Christmas, Hugo.
Like #10. What I like about Shane is that he’s a shoebox legend. Rarity plus desirability equals collectibility in my book! Question , has a buy back ever been bought back twice? A double buyback, triple buyback? The possibilities are endless. Walter Bond played on the MN Gophers basketball team- look it up! I’ll finish my comment later, amigo!
@@commentingcollector 😆 you ain’t lying..Walter Bond did play basketball for Minnesota. Kind of a wild idea on buybacks. I wonder if anyone has stamped their own cards to make them more valuable 🤔 You got me thinking Segedi!
Hey Hugo! Fun topic. I personally don’t like the buy backs. But that’s my opinion. I think they’re super cool in others collections and if you like them I’m all for them. For me. If I could open a pack with an original 1964 Topps card in that pack without the stamp I’d be ecstatic. I guess if I’m collecting a vintage set and and I needed a a certain card and the only one I can find is a buy back stamp,I wouldn’t consider that set complete. Just how I collect. You have a serious collection of buy backs. Even though I wrote two paragraphs of how I’m not a fan (haha) I really enjoyed seeing them in your collection and I see why they’re popular and sought after. That Al Oliver was a fantastic card. I liked the autographs on the Buc Hill Aces a lot. It does make that card much cooler. Fun video, Hugo! Hope all is well!
Hey Andy! I totally understand. Pulling an original card from a vintage pack would be an awesome experience. I agree that a complete set is not really complete unless it’s uniform. These buybacks do have the feel of an insert to them but the fact that they were a regular card and got a makeover is pretty cool to think about. There are some cards I wouldn’t want as a buyback but for most cards in my budget range it’s a fun way to change things up. Thanks for your input and for watching the video, Andy. I hope things are going well for you leading up to Christmas!
Loved the video Hugo! I remember the David Clyde hype. I looked up some buy back after watching your video. Nice Dave Parker/Rod Carew signed leaders card out there.
That’s great, Scott! I figured it must have been some serious hype for Clyde. I should have mentioned something about how people would go watch the Rangers thanks to him. Some believe he saved the franchise because of that. Idk A Parker/ Carew buyback auto would be nice! Thanks for watching, Scott
I always liked the idea and thought it was a good way to expose modern pack rippers to vintage cards. I don’t have any in my collection at this point but I honestly can’t see why people would be against them
I think they're altered, but not in a bad way, i think they're cool. Not the same as desert shield. Buy backs were used as revenue enhancers. Desert shield was a special gift for u.s. troops.
I will go with option C) Way cooler than the original version. But that is coming from someone who has already finished one complete Buybacks Franken set and started a second one and also is building a 1979 Buybacks set. I have always enjoyed these cards. If you ever want to trade either of the 1979 439 Frank White or 1979 549 Bob Bailey let me know I am sure I can find some cool buybacks I could replace them with.
Finkle and Einhorn do not view them as altered so I guess they must be rare. Regardless, they are exactly what you wish them to be. Your collection. Your rules. No one else's opinion matters on the issue. Happy Holidays to you and yours!
nice turn back the clock of number 21. they might be both rare and they might also be buy backs. nice Dave Stewart , 1978 Bob Stanley , are we looking at Heritage ,? some very nice cards after my decade Don Aase , Frank Duffy , nice Felix Milan Pat Dobson , Frank White , Bob Grich , Hal Mcrae do you have Hal's son Brian ? do you have the real card of number 21 1972? However, just because they are altered, doesn't mean they aren't cool. Personally, I have never seen a buy back before. What product did these come in? The buy back with the autos on it would be one of a kind. Foul on the play! Dropping a card on camera again Hugo? Crimes against the hobby I say.
@ sure. They took cards made and distributed years ago and stamped them. If you or I did that the cards would be worthless 😆. But then I think autographed cards should get an MK designation. Especially since so many of them are fake 😆
Do you like collecting buybacks or prefer cards in original form?
Is that the Hobby Hardcore Championship in your intro? Who you trying to get crazy with Ese? Don't you know I'm loco?! Kar says hi, by the way 😆 👋
