I think it was because they had to start making Battlefield 2042, since that was their next game after this. The amount of characters they could have added like Ashoka, Asajj Ventress,Mace Windu and maybe even The Mandalorian makes me sad to this day.😢

Battlefront II dying for Battlefield 2042 is one of the greatest sins EA has committed. There's pretty much no hope for a revival or a sequel, either, since the devs at EA that made Star Wars games left for companies that actually let them do that.
I mean no? Heck no? LIke BF2042 was out and fixed long before SW BF2 was cancled same for BFV... Also the only real issues it had were performance baxed and only with some sytems... LIke sure my frame rate dropped in the rain with my top end set up... But um you'll be surprised what games can run badly on even it.... Like I'm talking emulated gamecube games... As PC's game are insanely hard to optimize well given the countless specs of PCs and the future and past only making it so much worse... So yeah outside Doom no one can expact PC games to be well optimized ... So yeah and what the haters say about the classes is just isane fanstayyland BS... Like BF2042 classes are exactly what BF fans wanted back in the BF1942 days and the haters not fans complained about when enmy weapons were added in BF2... But fans wanted more... BF2042 classes are perfecrt form BF mainline games from now on...

All I really know is that DICE was still making BF2 stuff and was basically forced to shift gears to 2042 - a game that from what I can gather met a similar fate. Besides, I'm more mad at EA as a whole rather that Battlefield in particular, since even beyond killing Battlefront they've killed so many amazing games.

Yeah the marketing for BF2 kept mentioning about the connection to the sequel trilogy, and the little campaign epilogue expansion thing was only relevant to the start of The Last Jedi iirc

@orbaitv5991 no they didn't take it out "before the game released" I had the deluxe edition and got the purple version of the gun shield for the heavy class and had that day 1......then after like 2 months they took out the micro transactions but let everyone keep the star cards they already have earn though those said transactions
same, my pre-order rey on xbox still has 1 purple card despite not being high enough level for it. Don't plan on playing that version of the game for that reason, exclusively pc for a couple of years now. The xbox version acts kinda like a time capsule for me lol.
focusing on the campaign, they marketed it as a imperial perspective story, and yet you end up becoming rebel fighting against the empire, like a million other times before in star wars games, personally felt it should have been the other way round you stay loyal and fight for the empire until the end and your companions turn on you

See i get that but it really annoys me people call it a bad or disappointing story because of this, when it truly was well written. The motivations feel genuine, the character chemistry works well naturally, it really isn't badly written at all... Yet many who were salty they didn't get a full blown imperial pov campaign lambasted it as terrible *just* because it didn't go the direction they wanted, and that makes me sad, because they're missing a damn good story that hits you in the feels like star wars should.

This game is a gem. It's arguably the last good Dice game (Battlefield V is solid in my opinion though). It is a shame they didn't build on this to make a really good third game, and I think one more big update would have made this a truly great game. Also, on related note, Dice needs to drop microtransactions and just do 4 guaranteed dlcs that are paid. Microtransactions with each game being a slight dissapointment sales wise make them just want to give up on these games way to early
Or make a really good season pass like with how they used to do it with Battlefield 3 and 4. Before that narrative of season passes breaking up the players base started happening. Just so EA could shoehorn the live service model on us where we gey drip fed a map or two once in a blue moon vs the quality content we got in Battlefield 3 and 4's season passes.

Ive played this for seven years and have never knew there was a book. I have the starwars visions: the ronin novel how did i not know about this, and it's apparently good.
It's just that "An Imperial that Turns Rebel" is a story that has been done to Death, going all the way back to Han Solo, Wedge Antilles, Sabine Wren, Crosshair and so so so so many others. Plus the marketing for the game said it would be an Imperial campaign and since it really wasn't many people felt lied to.
It'd be cool if you could play as an Imperial all the way through. Similar thing on Battlefront 2 Classic with the 501st becoming Vader's Fist and I find it cool to see their narrative despite helping the bad guys.
@@DemoKingsHD Han Solo was neutral, could be hired by either side, but chose to assist the Rebels further. Wedge was recruited by the Empire, later defected to the Rebels. Same with Crosshair and Sabine, *at least on the defected part in Crosshair's case.
I remember the online game mode ewok hunt, turning this game into pure horror or cute teddy bears killing glow stick people. Depending on which side you're on.
The only disappointing thing about the game is that you can't stay playing as the Empire. Like they should've just made both a Rebel and Empire campaign or given us a choice to betray or stay with the Empire.
That would've actually been so sick. I enjoy the story as is already, but having a newer star wars game where you can actually stay "evil" would be sick as hell

The terrible MTX was removed so fast from the backlash that the vast majority of folks today don't even know what it was actually like. Which is strange, given it was...only...7 years ago. BF2 became infamous and cool to hate on for a multitude of reasons, the MTX was just the really big straw that finally broke the camel. So no "yeah but". But nowt, people swallowed game critic reviews like a hooker swallows the white stuff, and its showing in this comment thread with how many people talk complete BS they "read" but never experienced. Chinese whispers make things worse by the end than they were. But without SWBF2 going down how it did, every game now would be P2W. So we should respect it for that.

This game was good, the MTX issues at the start, thankfully, got slammed by us players and they went back on it, the MP was great from there on, played from day 1 to the end of service of it, it's sad they didnt support it longer, but I had my fun for sure.

Friendly reminder, Kyber V2 is coming out Q1 2025 on PC, with Battlefront 2 community servers that support mods. Including the Battlefront+ mod, which adds 20+ new heroes and tons more reinforcements, skins, etc.
Honestly my only complaint with the campaign is it was yet another, "The Empire is evil so I gotta rebel" stories. I wish they had stuck with their marketing and shown us the perspective of loyalist spec-ops.
Yeah the main story for Battlefront 2 isn’t that bad. It does a great job with Luke Skywalker(way better than the Sequel movies). Lukes level is definitely my favorite. Plus I always have a blast with the Jedi on multiplayer.
I somewhat blame EA, but rlly it’s Disney’s fault, they made it so painfully difficult for DICE to add in any hero for example, Ahsoka, that there was rlly no reason to try since Disney would almost always reject it. This causing EA to gradually give up hope until they officially pulled the plug.
It WAS bad and bare bones. It took them 3 years to make it good, which is ridiculous. Then abandoned it, which is unforgivable. Not to mention this campaign pales in comparison to the 501st campaign

Seeing this game just shows again how hard Ubisoft dropped the ball with Outlaws... But its also clear that a " Battlefield StarWars" is just more action than a " FarCry StarWars" in Ubisoft OpenWorld...
Fun fact: the compass that Luke finds in this game is how he found Ach to so he could hide himself away in the last Jedi. The item was first conceptualised for Star Wars battlefront when they were developing the campaign, then it was sketched out by Dave Filoni, then he showed to the last jedis prop department who decided to put it in the film, so they created it and flew it out to the remote island that they filmed Ach to on so it could get a close up shot in the movie, and the entire process from “conceptualisation by the Star Wars battlefront devs” to “real item getting filmed in a movie” took one work week. Genuinely one of the fastest turnarounds that I’ve ever seen in the production of anything.
I played the multiplayer from open beta to the final content update. BF2 was honestly some of the most fun I've ever had in online gaming. Had so many late nights playing Capital Supremacy, rushing command posts thru the dusts of Geonosis or duking it out on Heroes vs Villains, or going full "oonga-boonga" in Ewok Hunt. The redemption arc of this game is incredible, and the 2017 DICE team did an amazing job elevating the game into the greater product that we, the players, knew it could be. The devs were true Star Wars fans, and they delivered us 28 months of great Star Wars content. It's really too bad that we didn't get a Battlefront III.
Did... did they forget that one of the reasons the empire failed was because of them destroying Alederan? It makes no sense to me how these newer star wars writers just attack planets and pretend it doesn't have a massive effect on the Galaxy. The Death Star blew up one planet and it cost the Emperor his reign.
The whole imperial campaign was a lie, just false advertising. I played it, nearly beat the whole campaign in less then 2 hours and then I refunded it. The whole operation cinder idea was so dumb, and Iden's change of allegiance was to quick.
This game is the definition of "Greatest potential squandered." The gameplay was amazing, the visuals were GORGEOUS with the animations and environment, the controls felt great on the ground and in vehicles, heroes felt a little stange and could've used some tweaks but they all felt unique and within the roles they were made for, and the multiplayer was just really fun in spite of what you might think being an EA/DICE title. But with support being pulled right when it was finally reaching the best it could be, odd choices in additions like the ewok instead of other units used for stealth (like the bothans in the original BFII) and the campaign being yet another "bad guy feels bad and turns into a good guy" story instead of letting us be the bad guy the whole way through as it was marketed as (again, like the original), it just felt a little disappointing overall, not because it was bad because it is really good, but because it could've been FANTASTIC. Still absolutely will play the hell out for hours on end, don't get me wrong.
There are a heavy mg from Jedi Academy AND a slug-thrower from Republic Commando. I never expected such a dedication to the fanbase from a 2016+ AAA game
it was at some point harder and the heroes had different prices so someone op and legendary as anakin wouldnt be on the battlefield 24/7 and you had a reason to choose maybe someone worse but less expensive i also liked it when heroes where era locked
This campaign was so damn disappointing.The marketing said that this would be a darker story told from the Empires perspective but three missions in the main character instantly defects to the rebels. Which was so lame.

I have a few hundred hours in on PS & PC, PC gives this game a breath of fresh air with the mods out for it. My whole set up is now completely clone wars era. Still fun on PS5, but once you’re able to change what hero’s you can be or replace the first order with death watch mandalorians you just can’t beat it.
we dont need battlefront lll we just need some new content to keep player base alive, but there's still a lot of players playing that understand this games potential
Honestly, the game itself was actually pretty solid. The problem was that the monetization controversy at launch kind of doomed the whole thing. They removed the pay2win stuff, but it wasn't going to be selling well after the intitial PR disaster, meaning it was never going to generate the same kind of revenue that it otherwise could have, and so the corpos at Dice basically just cut life support for it, even though the game was actually starting to become quite good.
got to establish a few starting with the 2008 game, the battles were told through the eyes of the clones and the journey to order 66 and the rise of the empire, secondly I'm surprised you never gave this game a chance initially but, I'm glad you are now because you have the whole game accessible now since ea cut support for updates.
I want a Star wars game where i can play as a human, twilek, tagruta, or a droid. Also be able to choose my path in life as a jedi, sith, bounty hunter, space pirate, or a scavenger.
I remember going over to my neighbors house and playing the multiplayer with him on his ps4. It was always my favorite game that he had, (next would be Lego dimensions), and it was just super fun over all. I loved the combat, I loved the maps, and I loved the gameplay. Those were good times.

This game has a pretty good story and now that’s I’ve gone back to play it I like it. It just sucks they lied in all the promotional material. They said this was going to be the FIRST GALACTIC EMPIRE STORY! Where you play as a soldier doing what they believe is right for the Empire and the people. But then it just goes back to being a Imperial turned Rebel story in an hour or two. 😢 I thought it would be sick to get something different from a Rebel Alliance story in a game for once in a long time. But sadly didn’t come to be.
I played this again and just finished today, it was a lot of fun. There is also another campaign where you play as the same character a couple decades in the future, that ties in to The Force Awakens I think.
Best glitch is the zero gravity ragdoll. Randomly at some point in the campaign the ragdolls just float in the air when enemies are killed. You'll be in a firefight and afterwards look back and the air is just littered with floating stormtroopers XD
I think most people hated this game due to the way EA handled it in the beginning. If you weren't willing to drop some serious cash on loot boxes, you weren't having a good time. Plus, the game came out in a dismally unfinished state.
The multiplayer is peak star wars gaming imo, the campaign had potential as an Imperial pov of the war but sadly your special ops character wastes no time in turning to the rebels at the slightest inconvinience
the only bad thing about bf2 was the microtransactions and loot boxes, but everything else about the game was incredible. once they got rid of loot boxes and fixed progression, the game was flawless, i had so much fun playing this game. i hate that ea ended support for this game yet gave bf 2042 7 seasons and are still updating it. battlefront 2 deserved so much more. i wish i could revisit this game but the last time i played, false gaming sweats ruled pubs so i will just keep the memories of it.
The best optional campaigns are titanfall 2 and for honor. Also if that opening song is from the bulletstorm ost, you should try that too if you haven't already.

It's just that "An Imperial that Turns Rebel" is a story that has been done to Death, going all the way back to Han Solo, Wedge Antilles, Sabine Wren, Crosshair and so so so so many others. Plus the marketing for the game said it would be an Imperial campaign and since it really wasn't many people felt lied to.
That was my main issue you only have two full true imperial missions

Similar thing on Battlefront 2 Classic with the 501st becoming Vader's Fist and I find it cool to see their narrative despite helping the bad guys.

Wedge was recruited by the Empire, later defected to the Rebels. Same with Crosshair and Sabine, *at least on the defected part in Crosshair's case.

The only disappointing thing about the game is that you can't stay playing as the Empire. Like they should've just made both a Rebel and Empire campaign or given us a choice to betray or stay with the Empire.
That would've actually been so sick. I enjoy the story as is already, but having a newer star wars game where you can actually stay "evil" would be sick as hell

The terrible MTX was removed so fast from the backlash that the vast majority of folks today don't even know what it was actually like. Which is strange, given it was...only...7 years ago.
BF2 became infamous and cool to hate on for a multitude of reasons, the MTX was just the really big straw that finally broke the camel.

This game was good, the MTX issues at the start, thankfully, got slammed by us players and they went back on it, the MP was great from there on, played from day 1 to the end of service of it, it's sad they didnt support it longer, but I had my fun for sure.

Friendly reminder, Kyber V2 is coming out Q1 2025 on PC, with Battlefront 2 community servers that support mods. Including the Battlefront+ mod, which adds 20+ new heroes and tons more reinforcements, skins, etc.

Honestly my only complaint with the campaign is it was yet another, "The Empire is evil so I gotta rebel" stories. I wish they had stuck with their marketing and shown us the perspective of loyalist spec-ops.

Yeah the main story for Battlefront 2 isn’t that bad. It does a great job with Luke Skywalker(way better than the Sequel movies). Lukes level is definitely my favorite. Plus I always have a blast with the Jedi on multiplayer.
The only problem with Luke in the campaign is that the multiplayer changes to lightsaber combat were applied to it. (Stamina bar)

I somewhat blame EA, but rlly it’s Disney’s fault, they made it so painfully difficult for DICE to add in any hero for example, Ahsoka, that there was rlly no reason to try since Disney would almost always reject it. This causing EA to gradually give up hope until they officially pulled the plug.
It WAS bad and bare bones. It took them 3 years to make it good, which is ridiculous. Then abandoned it, which is unforgivable. Not to mention this campaign pales in comparison to the 501st campaign

Fun fact: the compass that Luke finds in this game is how he found Ach to so he could hide himself away in the last Jedi. The item was first conceptualised for Star Wars battlefront when they were developing the campaign, then it was sketched out by Dave Filoni, then he showed to the last jedis prop department who decided to put it in the film, so they created it and flew it out to the remote island that they filmed Ach to on so it could get a close up shot in the movie, and the entire process from “conceptualisation by the Star Wars battlefront devs” to “real item getting filmed in a movie” took one work week. Genuinely one of the fastest turnarounds that I’ve ever seen in the production of anything.

I played the multiplayer from open beta to the final content update. BF2 was honestly some of the most fun I've ever had in online gaming. Had so many late nights playing Capital Supremacy, rushing command posts thru the dusts of Geonosis or duking it out on Heroes vs Villains, or going full "oonga-boonga" in Ewok Hunt. The redemption arc of this game is incredible, and the 2017 DICE team did an amazing job elevating the game into the greater product that we, the players, knew it could be. The devs were true Star Wars fans, and they delivered us 28 months of great Star Wars content. It's really too bad that we didn't get a Battlefront III.

The whole imperial campaign was a lie, just false advertising. I played it, nearly beat the whole campaign in less then 2 hours and then I refunded it. The whole operation cinder idea was so dumb, and Iden's change of allegiance was to quick.
Just wish the campaign wasn't so boring. The campaign levels were kind of interesting, but the actual story itself...
This game is the definition of "Greatest potential squandered." The gameplay was amazing, the visuals were GORGEOUS with the animations and environment, the controls felt great on the ground and in vehicles, heroes felt a little stange and could've used some tweaks but they all felt unique and within the roles they were made for, and the multiplayer was just really fun in spite of what you might think being an EA/DICE title. But with support being pulled right when it was finally reaching the best it could be, odd choices in additions like the ewok instead of other units used for stealth (like the bothans in the original BFII) and the campaign being yet another "bad guy feels bad and turns into a good guy" story instead of letting us be the bad guy the whole way through as it was marketed as (again, like the original), it just felt a little disappointing overall, not because it was bad because it is really good, but because it could've been FANTASTIC. Still absolutely will play the hell out for hours on end, don't get me wrong.

The Blast mode is exactly that, but it's basically completely dead.
it was at some point harder and the heroes had different prices so someone op and legendary as anakin wouldnt be on the battlefield 24/7 and you had a reason to choose maybe someone worse but less expensive

Instantly 🤣 not even close. you didn't like the direction that doesn't make it bad, and the story is absolutely dark as f***, the Imperial loyalty comes back as a recurring theme throughout even after the defection.
Say you preferred the other direction, but don't lie by calling it straight disappointing because anyone with half a brain cell can see the writing is better by miles than most of the more recent mainline SW content we've had.

Me having maxed out most of the non hero classes in this games multiplayer: I mean it’s alright
I have a few hundred hours in on PS & PC, PC gives this game a breath of fresh air with the mods out for it. My whole set up is now completely clone wars era. Still fun on PS5, but once you’re able to change what hero’s you can be or replace the first order with death watch mandalorians you just can’t beat it.

Honestly, the game itself was actually pretty solid. The problem was that the monetization controversy at launch kind of doomed the whole thing.
They removed the pay2win stuff, but it wasn't going to be selling well after the intitial PR disaster, meaning it was never going to generate the same kind of revenue that it otherwise could have, and so the corpos at Dice basically just cut life support for it, even though the game was actually starting to become quite good.
got to establish a few starting with the 2008 game, the battles were told through the eyes of the clones and the journey to order 66 and the rise of the empire, secondly I'm surprised you never gave this game a chance initially but, I'm glad you are now because you have the whole game accessible now since ea cut support for updates.
Arguably the best star wars experience we've gotten in the last 10 years, can't belive they stopped supporting it when it was in its best state.

I remember going over to my neighbors house and playing the multiplayer with him on his ps4. It was always my favorite game that he had, (next would be Lego dimensions), and it was just super fun over all. I loved the combat, I loved the maps, and I loved the gameplay. Those were good times.

This game has a pretty good story and now that’s I’ve gone back to play it I like it. It just sucks they lied in all the promotional material. They said this was going to be the FIRST GALACTIC EMPIRE STORY! Where you play as a soldier doing what they believe is right for the Empire and the people. But then it just goes back to being a Imperial turned Rebel story in an hour or two. 😢

I played this again and just finished today, it was a lot of fun. There is also another campaign where you play as the same character a couple decades in the future, that ties in to The Force Awakens I think.

Best glitch is the zero gravity ragdoll. Randomly at some point in the campaign the ragdolls just float in the air when enemies are killed. You'll be in a firefight and afterwards look back and the air is just littered with floating stormtroopers XD

I think most people hated this game due to the way EA handled it in the beginning. If you weren't willing to drop some serious cash on loot boxes, you weren't having a good time. Plus, the game came out in a dismally unfinished state.
Never forgiving EA for the state of this game at launch. OG BF2 just needed a modern remaster.

the only bad thing about bf2 was the microtransactions and loot boxes, but everything else about the game was incredible. once they got rid of loot boxes and fixed progression, the game was flawless, i had so much fun playing this game. i hate that ea ended support for this game yet gave bf 2042 7 seasons and are still updating it. battlefront 2 deserved so much more.
i wish i could revisit this game but the last time i played, false gaming sweats ruled pubs so i will just keep the memories of it.
