keepo yes it does. Especially in racing vehicles. Regardless if the car is N/A, or charges there will be less air getting into the engine. Less air into the engine and the car compensates by pumping less fuel. Giving you less power. A turbo or supercharge has to work harder to get the proper air it needs at higher altitudes. 2000 meters is roughly 1.2 miles above sea level. Watch any mike high drag racing compared to tracks at sea level and you’ll see a huge difference.
its actually pretty crap for a tuned turbo when there's stock n/a hondas getting much better times, if not for dsg awd and modern turbos, vw would still be trash

Loved the video! Cheers from new Zealand guys. I had a mk4 golf I bought to replace my 1.8t manual Passat a few years ago. Put the wife and kids in it and drove up an apline pass near us. We were the only non 4x4 vehicle up there. The guys at the bottom said no way that little car would make it up there. And it did not sweat!. One of the most memorable drives in my life and you are so right what you said at the end Moog. Cheers
The ultimate driving machine for those roads is by far a motorbike. My brother and I did a lap of the alps on motorbikes a few years back and actually drove the Stelvio pass (and had lunch at the top). Just the feeling of open space you get on a bike is amazing. Not to mention it´s so much easier to stop anywhere to take photos. Almost had to spend the night on top of one pass though because I forgot to get gas before we went up. The needle was actually below the 0 when we eventually got down the other side.
Jumi Waldner oh wow, that must be a really nice car to drive! (And look at ^^) And yeah, you are besically in the right region to go and enjoy the stelvio from time to time, have fun :)

Think you got that right. You don't need much in life. Just the ability to experience things like Stelvio pass every once in a while. Did it last year on my €400 Suzuki GSX-F 750. Broke down twice on the way up (gasoline boiling in the carbs), overheated my brakes on the way down, was never happier to wait on the side of a road for things to cool down, just enjoying the view. Yet even happier when back on that road :)!
oi... found the hawksburry local ;) how good is that road though!!!! ahaha. taken my mini through there, and recently took the rexy from windsor to merriwa. just needing to finish up some suspension stuff on the old chrysler and take it for a blast on there
Il Passo dello Stelvio is truly a magnificent sight, got the pleasure of driving through it a couple times. Also, pointless notes: 1. that "Foresta" was perfect. 2. the Be- in Benvenuti is spelt like [beh-], the rest was good. And yes, it means Welcome. 3. that pizza sight made me hungry.
Moog is unexpectedly insightful sometimes. Using driving to live in the moment and be mindful is a message that needs spreading. Thanks MCM - got me in the feels :)
11:30 as a Frenchman i think it's because you're in a restaurant, you're expected to cut your own food with fork and knife. If you pick one up or get it delivered by a pizzeria on the other hand, it comes pre-cut. Glad you liked the Alps overall, and great video as always from you guys. Cheers !

Great cinematography, editing, and score. You guys keep it up.
16:30 bench argument - 2 passionate car guys w different philosophies but able to bring us THIS for all these years. this embodies the spirit of MCM. love it!
Thanks for the awesome visuals. I'm currently recovering from a motorcycle accident and your adventure feels like I'm out there driving with you guys.
Part 2? I didn't see that one coming! I thought it was only one part! You guys are the BEST! How not to love MCM!
Pretty sure theres at least 3
They've gotta get back to Munich yet, so probably another part or two.
In part 1 where they talked to the police the dude said that they'll go to the VW assembly plant in Wolfsburg. We'll find out next week I guess...
These two episodes are definitely the best in my opinion! Mad love!
Glorious scenery, top-shelf banter, move over Top Gear.
8,8 Seconds 2000 Meter above sea level driving uphill :-D
Altitude doesnt matter with a turbo
keepo yes it does.
Kemal Keza I’m sorry but a gti will gap most hondas
It's so awesome how far you have come with your channel and your content. Halfway around the world, in Europe driving a Golf to the Wörthersee. This is the way how quality should evolve and reward creators like you two. I'am so proud of how far you have come, and how true you stayed to yourselfs.
I like your content since a long time, and hope you stay how you are.
Greetings from one of your german Fans.
You didn't, by any chance, notice a Volvo 240 when you had just crossed into Italy?

Loved the video! Cheers from new Zealand guys. I had a mk4 golf I bought to replace my 1.8t manual Passat a few years ago. Put the wife and kids in it and drove up an apline pass near us. We were the only non 4x4 vehicle up there. The guys at the bottom said no way that little car would make it up there. And it did not sweat!. One of the most memorable drives in my life and you are so right what you said at the end Moog. Cheers
if you look around in switzerland you'll notice the proper car for the alps seems to be an Impreza STi. they are everywherer!
Hold on, wasn't Moog the one that wanted the RX-7 and Marty the R34 during Turbos and Temples 2? Oh you
so glad the golf would stay within the mcm family. ENJOY to Bjorn!
Doing 0-100 slower than benny is doing the quarter. Puts into perspective just how hard the cresta goes!
Don't speed in Switzerland!....it's an on the spot fine! Like the popo have a credit card reader with them!

MCM on the stelvio pass - can't believe it. this is amazing. greetz from Austria :)
I’ve driven through the Swiss alps. In a rental convertible mini. Followed a convoy of super cars. It was awesome

Hey guys love your channel. That's one thing I would love to watch a rx7 build
Thank you both so much for sharing this experience with us! Truly breathtaking scenery. And I had goosebumps when you commented on knowing at those special moments that “this is enough”! Knowing exactly what you mean. Congrats to you guys on all you do! Keep up the great work 👌🏻😎
Think you got that right.
Brilliant video, brilliant scenery, great banter. More of these trips please.
RX7 vs skyline. Putty road Australia. Get it fellas 😎👌🏻

oi... found the hawksburry local ;) how good is that road though!!!! ahaha. taken my mini through there, and recently took the rexy from windsor to merriwa. just needing to finish up some suspension stuff on the old chrysler and take it for a blast on there

Il Passo dello Stelvio is truly a magnificent sight, got the pleasure of driving through it a couple times. Also, pointless notes:
1. that "Foresta" was perfect.
2. the Be- in Benvenuti is spelt like [beh-], the rest was good. And yes, it means Welcome.
3. that pizza sight made me hungry.
This was beautiful. I loved every minute of it.
wow, wow, wow.. what a sweet road up that pass..
Moog's music is also on spotify.. the tracks to these videos are sooooo bloody good!
good stuff boys
I drove this road in my Yaris. It was an amazing experience.
Love the camera work in the Mountains, you actually get some of an idea of the perspective of how steep the mountains are
“Natio run”. Brings tears to the eyes of a Shire boy.
That it does.
I live pretty much opposite the entry. Can confirm it does.
Cheers !

The landscapes are breath taking. Brings me good memories from last year when I worked in Austria and I drove my friends Smart Fortwo from Austria to Portugal. Did the trip alone and im a 6,3ft guy. I just loved it. 2 days driving. 13h the 1st day and 18h the 2nd day. 51h the total journey.
You guys want twisty and curvy roads? Go to Madeira Island.
Nice video.
Best car for tooling around the Alps is a Lancia Delta Integrale. If you can find one, these days!
The problem with the GTI was probably the fact that the air is thinner the higher you go. You can look it up, it affects the power by a lot.
When I was there I was told that some performance cars struggle to start due to the thin air.
I’d say an mx5 would be the pick for the drive through the alps on a sunny day
More of an european GT car, like an Aston Martin. I drive an Abarth 124 Spider, this would be a good choice, too. Actually I am planning a trip to Italy (and of the Stelvio Pass) next year. :)
What a wonderfull Episode of MCM .... Thanks for taking us with you, on that beautiful Journey!
Every video you guys make inspires me just the way you talk about the car scene and just show the wide variety of different art you can create with cars and it really shows everyone to just do what you want with your car and do what you want and I know that all of the videos you make makes me wanna take my car out and drive and see the beauty in where I’m at in my life right now

I did the stelvio in my Peugeot 206 1.1i with two passengers, the exhaust hanging off and severely overheating brakes off with the ascent from austria in blinding fog. Still the best drive I ever had.
shout out to Galston Gorge! still one of my most fav roads! and the first place i go when i fly home to Sydney to visit my old home in Castle Hill. That was a nostalgic moment for me, thanks guys!
You guys are seriously filling the gigantic void left after the original trio left Top Gear for the arguably less than thrilling Grand Tour. Entertaining auto enthusiast content that has great production value.

Thank you for sharing your amazing road trip in Europe. God bless you and your family
This is exactly what my drive from Alaska to Florida in my MK4 wagon was like. I didnt think this could top the last episode, but you did it. how about you find an R32 MK4 VR6 and turbo it in Australia. I would pay to watch that.
"It's easy to get lost in the idea of always wanting more. More money, more things, a better job. When is enough enough? On a road like this you need to be truly in the moment and that's why driving is so incredible. Some people won't get it, but for those that do, just then, their car and the road, this is what it's all about. And this is as good as it gets. This is enough."
I've been to some of the most beautiful places on earth but northern Italy or as we Austrians call it "Südtirol" is still the most beautiful place I know of. Come back in winter for skiing within the dolomites area and you will never forget. It's magical.

My 1970 Citroën 2cv van has been all over the Alps, Inc Stelvio pass 😁
That must be terrifying on the descents. But in a good way.
Unfortunately I didn't own it back then, although I'm told it was "fun and scary"
It joined a now defunct banger rally, called Scally Rally in 2007. I'd love to do something like this with it again.
I think a 2CV is a far better choice than an R34 or RX7
@@pokinacha can't go fast, so take something fun!
Area 602 I did it in a Clio 200. Best car I ever had up there. Light, NA, nimble. The chat about the R34 Vs RX7 was silly. An Alfa Romeo 105 with a 1750... Bellissimo!
Words and this video can't describe the beauty of the Alps. I went to Chamonix FR a few years ago and I hope to get back and experience it all again MCM style.

I'm surprised you didn't pull the door card off and fix that broken door it might have been simple to fix!
Typical Mk4 problem, solution requires tearing down the door completely, takes a lot of time and lots of fiddling. Had one with a door that couldn't be opened (inside or outside), kept it that way
Usually the paddle and circlip that breaks, £4 fix and and hour
Pull this
Then the running gag dies
@@campig it's not big job to tear down whole door, 1h max fixing that problem. but I bet they just wanted to keep it that way. :D
Excellent video. The views are just amazing.
That blow off valve is one of the reasons why the car is running like poo. The 1.8T needs a recirculating valve...not one that vents to the atmosphere.
One of your most beautiful videos. I actually got chills. I miss Europe, but this half hour had me glued.
23:15 - This part will definitely go on my favorite MCM quotes list, right next to the quote from the S2000 episode.
