Update: Mad Catz is back from the dead! Well, they're back in the sense that the brand was acquired by a manufacturing firm in China that used to build certain Mad Catz devices. They've also been restructured under new management than the old Mad Catz completely and that is probably for the best. Doesn't seem like they're doing fight sticks anymore either, at least not yet.

Well, you also have to remember that back in the late 80s going into the 90s, many of us gamers were kids. We had no money of our own. Even if your parents were awesome enough to not get you engaged in the console wars (I was lucky to have a SNES Genesis and PC, I was actually kinda poor... But how that came about was another story), the reality is, the OEM peripherals could still be expensive. So, parents would end up getting the cheaper 3rd party açcessories. Mainly because of the expense and not knowing better.
Come the 6th gen or so, many of us had our own jobs at last. So many of us would just buy OEM, since we knew better. Mad Catz had to go niche because of this. Hell, I have a 4 year old now who is starting to play vidya. You think I want to use a 3rd party controller for her, my wife, or myself?
It literally came down to a huge change in who was actually purchasing the products.

Jeez, I thought $60 for a new DualShock 4 was too much! The DS4 that came with my PS4 is the only one I have, and seeing as how it's not doing so hot, I really need a new one. Which I can't afford. Still, I can't be too mad about the price. If I had created such a masterpiece, such a perfect controller, I'd probably charge a lot for it, too.

sephirothdawn2 I remember many months before Ties That Bind came out i was nearly all the time on the games website waiting on any new game images and the like. Lets just say i was super hyped for it and i enjoyed it quite a lot actually; as much as the original suffering. Oddly the only thing that threw me off from Ties is doctor killjoys voice sounds pitched up and overall sounds off. Other than that its a great game and the original too.

Thank you for this, Clint. I was really angry when Mad Catz closed down because the last I'd heard from Saitek (whom I love) was that they'd been taken over by them. Now, I know what went wrong for Mad Catz, I also know that Saitek is safe with Logitech. Thanks for cheering me up, dude.

They had a really good PS2 controller with the 4 bumper buttons in just the right place for piloting AC's In Armored Core 3. I used it to SPANK people's asses in that game!

I have a couple of Mad Catz wireless xbox controllers that were made with the same tech as the wireless gamecube controllers. Considering the fact that microsoft never made a wireless controller for the original box, it's pretty cool that mad catz did it.

Snick Snack not every product they made was bad. Although in 99 i got one for Gran Turismo 1 and it was so sensitive i turn the wheel a little and it turned all the way took it back to Wal Mart exchanged it, same thing. I couldn't get a refund because it was Christmas present didn't have receipt lol.
