My dad and his long-time coworker were in the very corner of the front row (black shirt + white jacket & red shirt next to him) and this is STILL one of the best bowling stories he's ever told even YEARS later. Hit 5K on slots at Silver Legacy the night before while *absolutely wasted* and shows up to the Stadium crossed as HELL the next morning to watch Patrick Allen (our favorite on tour at the time) throw one of the best performances of all-time. Can't write it any better.
WRW's first ball in the 10th - drills straight through the rack...zero deflection. His second ball for the title - deflects right toward the 10 pin like it was an 11 lb ball. Pin spotting wasn't the issue...that had to have been a release issue for WRW's ball to bounce off the headpin the way it did
I think he made a slight move since he was so high flush the first ball. WIth that line he could almost take his hand out of the ball and still drift flush. Im guessing if you asked him he made an adjustment off the first strike. I play these lines, its hard to leave an 8-10 from there.
Patrick saying: "My god he 8-10ed on Shark" I thought..."That's cheetah bud." Then Randy corrected him. Great bowling to all and just a bad break for Walter.
Its a nice venue . I got to bowl in the 1st nationals that was held there. 9 games with a 221 avg. I remember the 1st game was a 257 then the rest was a blur . all i know is i was kicking ass . then a tragedy on the way home. We ran into two elk in Wyoming and i never bowled again.
Yes maybe it was a little unsportsmanlike for PA to run cheering as WR 8-10’d but you can tell he was in disbelief immediately after. It was probably his instinct because of how bad the break was. Schlegel when Pedersen left an 8 pin was horrible sportsmanship but PA momentarily cheering in victory and then covering his face is far more reasonable than yelling “I AM THE GREATEST”
Very similar to Pete Weber's reaction to Ballard's gutter ball in '91. Initial reaction was to raise arms in triumph, but immediately realized how shocking it was, and probably some empathy sunk in.
Haha. At least he said "that's" a loser, as in the shot, not the player. Can't remember the exact tournament, but in a similar situation, Bo Burton once just blurted out one word: "Loser!"
im guessing he made a slight move after going high flush on the first ball. I dont think he should have changed anything really foir shot #2. Just keep the speed firm to hold the line.
he would have lost anyway since I doubt that one pin would have filed a 31 point gap but I hate to see someone like Chris Barnes miss a single pin spare.
That final shot by Walter was a hair light, but if anything most of the time that would just leave the ten pin. That was just extremely unlucky I've been there.
Craig Laycox it is not one long board, it’s several six foot pieces. Unfortunately we are stuck with the hew system except in a few Asian PBA events because the costs involved with maintaining wood lanes
@@mpup54 I personally hate Wood Lanes, in fact my Youth mates are as well. Oil Drys so easily and more friction, come on please. I’m so glad I bowled on Synthetics better.
A decade later, and this is still one of the greatest shows of all time. 2009 was chock full of entertaining telecasts.
youre right. Or at least going back into 2008.
2006ish to 2009 is golden era of PBA or you could say 2006 to around 2013
Golden era of modern PBA I should say*

That shot was so good too. That ball checked so early. Amazing match
I practiced with Patrick and his sister Sheila back in the day at White Plains before he turned pro. This is a very fond memory for me.

ABSOLUTELY agreed...and a great analysis.

exactly, limp wrist resulted in weak carry..bad shot, period!

Me: *dead from laughing too hard*
What a finish!
Thank gran love you too grandson corey ❤❤
Can't wait for the WSOB to come to Reno!
i know!
probably best title match ever

I love my spare ball. It looks like a classic soccer ball with the pentagons.
1:19:02 OMG THAT'S A LOSER. That just made my day.
VinAl20 that had to be like getn kicked in the gut
That will be on his mind for some time I’ll bet

Jeez, billy o looks young as hell.
33:38 good thing Patrick Allen didn’t use the famous DX line
1:19:28 "Put the pins on spot, would you, huh". LOL.
Nice catch. I think it was all Walter Ray. Sometimes horseshoe accuracy isnt enough for carry.
Took me long enough to realize the comment referred to when Allen asked for a pin on the 2-4-7 to be respotted
TooSweetVlogger agreed, it was Patrick
Barnsey is such a shocker
2009 wasn't that long ago. We had better quality(1080p) cameras than this fuzzy broadcast exhibits.
34:50 I have no idea why Chris Barnes shoots his Spares weirdly
Weirdly??
He just needed to prop up the ball like that so his right arm is flat to shoot spares
What's the advantage of a 6 steps approach ?
More room for more power.
Mostly a timing thing
fabptitpom it slows your approach down
Why does Patrick Allen have both hammer and storm on his jersey?
Joshua slosser He’s a free agent at the time, ie Not signed by any ball company. So I guess he’s free to put whatever patch he wants.
@@iconredesign I just thought you had to have a sponsor to compete
Joshua slosser no, but your bowling balls costs less with a sponsor
Nobody gonna talk about how this is the same bowling alley as kingpin movie?
Wasn't that the same 8 10 split that cost Walter Ray Williams Jr the title in the 1986 King Louie Open?
When is there gona be the walter ray williams jr classic
1:18:57 Randy Pedersen saying that was pretty funny but I think that is one of the worst times to say it 😅😂

He's back baby
@@billyg1122 ....and the PBA is now on FOX and FS1.
Dont worry...he will be back
Ray Jackson the pba aint what it usta be now that its on fsi
Bill Allmon true, it’s better now with more events and a bigger prize fund
1:18:57 pocket 8-10😳
For all his wins, WRW has caught some nasty breaks on TV. This is probably the worst.
speed is crucial at the National Center. I felt like it was an oddity that most other centers arent as sketchy with.
This is where the PBA started the downhill slide. Gimmick tournaments
You mean the gimmick tournaments or the downhill slide?
Mark ESPN was the downfall, not everyone has pay TV. Fox has rejuvenated the PBA with Bowlero with new events and money infusion for the players.
Announcer's curse is still alive and well. Even if different ones are told about jinxing players, they do it anyway! All sports, all the time.
Brent Schmidt it’s a myth, like getting prayers answered, doesn’t happen
WR lays a giant egg.
Is this the one where Pat misses the 5 pin?
Walter got hosed.

nice
Give them different patterns in one game but make them use only one ball. Then it will get down to skill.
Dude in the beginning throwing hammer and storm... 🤔
I wonder if he was in the middle of endorsements? That's the only thing I can think of.
thou shall not use God's name in vain
what an intense finish wow wow
nothing quite like the doughy pasty physique of bowlers. They're not athletes, but they are sportsmen for sure.
Go bowl 24 games in 3 days and let us know how the body feels 🙄
Pocket 8-10, one of the worst breaks in bowling
Casey Hoyt or the 7-9
Patrick Allen went to the Chris Mullin school of ugliness and was valedictorian.
You should see him in the 90’s
Both Patrick Allen and Walter Ray Williams Jr bowl amazingly well in the Pba Events in the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada
