    I remember watching this movie in the theater and the one thing that stuck with me was when the dinosaur needed help out of the tar pit, and when it gets out it’s immediately jumped, I laughed so hard and I was the only one laughing in the room 💀.

    Apparently, if i remember correctly, the Fasolasuchus was a last-minute addition. It actually replaced what was supposed to be a really pissed off Triceratops. The CGI was done for the Trike, but test audiences couldn't accept a herbivore as a villain or even just a territorial dino. That's probably why the replacement looks so odd. Like i said, i remember reading this around the time of the release and even vaguely remember a teaser with the trike charging at Kylo Ren.

    The original art belongs to artist, C.M. Kosemen featured in the book, All yesterdays, In a section called all todays, Where they illustrate, Based on old dinosaur reconstructions (Mainly from 80s To 90s) How would these animals look like without an idea of soft tissue or muscle or fur or fat, So no, It's not created by scientists, Nor they believed this is what a baboon looked like.

    So...Lagosuchus, Fasolasuchus, and pterosaurs are not dinosaurs. The "Quetzalcoatlus" looks the exact same as the Dsungaripterus, so I assum that they are just that. In which case neither of these 3 animals existed in that time or place. Hell...only the T. rex and the presumed Pectinodon are in the correct time and place (the oviraptorosaur would get a pass if it was said to be Anzu and not Oviraptor itself...).
    Archeologists study ancient human made objects. Paleontology is the study of extinct animals.
    Troodon is a nomen dubium, for the original material (the single tooth) is not diagnostic. It was a wastebasket taxon for a long time, but since than it was split into multiple genera (one of which is the aforementioned Pectinodon).
    Ankylosaurs do not have tail-spikes, they have tail clubs, so it is most likely supposed to be a stegosaur tail-spike, which again would be in the wrong time. You could argue for a nodosaur shoulder spike, but the ones that lived at that place and time (Denversaurus) had much shorter spikes.
    The infectious bite of T. rex is a fringe hypothesis that was based on misconceptions about komodo dragons. Their eyesight is slightly over exaggerated too; the study that it is referencing calculated a wide range for T. rex visual acuity...than the media run with only the highest possible one which the study itself refered to as "unlikely" (and even the original study probably overestimated the eyesize anyway).
    Poor Dsungaripterus has it's eyes in the wrong hole (antorbital fenestra). And it is still the best and most accurate model in the film. Generally the models look terrible (by that i mean inaccurate af).
    I don't see "How the Studio Got Them Mostly Right". I see how they got them entirely wrong.

    • @SaurLoser
      @SaurLoser  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +10

      You are awesome! The film absolutely got the time period wrong for most of these animals and the models themselves were not accurate. I beleive they wanted this movie to be more of a monster movie rather than a dinosaur movie. Thank you for pointing out the mistakes or adding info from the video. I like to think I am accurate and concise with my information but I messed up on some stuff I see. It's because of people like you that I can improve my quality. I hope you will be around for my next video so I can see how accurate I was!

    • @martontoth2063
      @martontoth2063 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +10

      @@SaurLoser To be honest, you respond to criticism very well (even if I was a bit harsh). So hats off to you on that.
      On what they wanted with this movie, I have to disagree. There are?/were interviews with the film makers claiming a modern view on dinosaurs, working with paleontologists and "to be able to transport the audience back exactly 65 million years ago to see...what the dinosaurs looked like...". This is clearly suppose to be our earth at the time of the asteroid impact. Even if it weren't for this, I would still dislike the movie...but with claims like these you invite much more scrutiny.
      I've also heard that the stupid quadrupedal things ought to be yet undiscovered theropod lineages unknown to science (that hypothetically could have existed)...but that is just as implausible as a late cretaceous Fasolasuchus or Lagosuchus (at least to anyone who knows a just bit about theropod evolution).

    • @william3100
      @william3100 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @martontoth2063 Yeah, like, if a predatory dinosaur is quadrapedal, it is NOT a theropod as theropods are bipeds.
      Maybe some undiscovered quadrapedal dinosaur lineages could've once existed that were carnivorous at some point, but not like this.

    • @martontoth2063
      @martontoth2063 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @@william3100 Not quite. If, hypothetically, there was a theropod lineage that reverted back to quadrupedalism for some reason, they would still be theropods. My issue is that theropod forelimbs would be poorly suited for locomotion, they are quite restricted in range of motion. So if you are a carnivorous theropod that would only hinder your speed and therefore your ability to hunt, or the mobilization of the shoulder would have to precede it (but what would be the environmental pressure for that?).
      Dinosaur shoulder girdles are less mobile to than those of mammals. Also, dinosaurs are ancestrally bipedal while mammals are quadrupedal. This is why we have a bunch of quadrupedal mammalian predators but no dinosaurs.
      If you look at dinosauria as a whole, many lineages reverted to quadrupedalism independent of each other, but only herbivorous lineages usually as they increased in body size, where weight bearing and stability became more important than speed. This is because herbivore need large and long guts to digest the plant-material more efficiently, which makes them front heavy; carnivores do not face the same issue.
      And although the fossil record is patchy, if there was a quadrupedal carnivorous theropod (or non-theropod lineage), we would have surely found at least some evidence for it's existence. And to have one at the end of the cretaceous, we would need an incredibly long ghost lineage.
      There aren't many carnivorous non-theropods either, and all of them are basal (early) forms of other lineages from the Triassic (since the last common ancestor of all dinosaurs was carnivorous...but also biped), and none of them made it into the Jurassic.
      The closest thing we have to a quadrupedal carnivorous dinosaur would be early silesaurs like Lewisuchus, that may or may not have been a true dinosaur (specifically basal ornitischian) and may or may not have been quadrupedal.
      So, yeah, not impossible just highly implausible. And it would be most likely be a basal Triassic non-theropod. One in the late cretaceous? Even more implausible.

    Yknow, if this movie was smart to use actual scientific accurate dinos with minor artistic touches? Alot of the scenes would actually be really haunting, bone chilling even. Sure the general audience dont really find them "scary", a shame really, but this movie could have showed that by presenting these creatures as actual animals that don't need to look scary to be scary, like we tend to forget that bears are some of the feared and respected animals in nature despite looking like giant fat dog.

    Ok.
    Well made video but I have some addendums.
    Your claims of the weird armored theropod that gets murked within half a minute being a Jakapil. While it does resemble it and the filmmakers did say they looked at the latest fossil discoveries, I severely doubt they cared enough to properly depict what it actually was. They probably saw some stupid headline that said "T. REX RELATIVE WITH ARMOR" and just assumed it was that. A T. rex with armor. Given the fact that it was very likely supposed to be a three-legged Ankylosaurus baby that was cut out due to negative test screenings, they probably just needed a quick model replacement and just so happened to see what a Jakapil looked like and thought "well, we're lazy enough, let's just slap a T. rex head on it."
    And your claims of the four-legged Rex being a Fasolosuchus... There is no evidence of this. The storyboards for the film outright say and depict it as a regular T. rex, so it's probably just supposed to be a four-legged Rex. Speaks volumes about how creative they are that a T. rex with longer arms is scarier than two T. rexes attacking you at once. They may as well have just stuck in Godzilla if they were gonna make up stuff.
    And honestly, this is just a pedantic point, but the title is a borderline misnomer. It should say "completely wrong." It's very clear the filmmakers did not care about a proper Hell Creek depiction, let alone the Maastrichtian in general, to get them right for their film. Implying otherwise would be misinformation.

    15:15 in case you are not making a joke: This was a thought experiment for the book "All Yesterdays" in which they tried to compare how we reconstruct extinct animals (just slap some muscle and skin on there but keep prominent features of the skeleton visible) to what modern animals and their interiors look like. For that, they reconstructed multiple modern animals the way we would do it with extinct animals. For example, they reconstructed a cow that way, and since it turned out pretty slim, they conclude that it must have been a fast running animal. They are trying to demonstrate that we can't know everything and that it is okay to do more educated speculation.

      although the first reconstruction of Jackapil was released on August of 2022, I still believe this is Jackapil in the movie. If you look at the behind the scenes of 65 VFX video, The tar scene has a completely different dino in it. I think they VFX'd it in last minute. As for Fasolasuchus, there is no direct evidence from the studio confirming it. However, I think based of it's size and quadrupedal movement they were basing their design off of Fasolasuchus. I'll never watch this movie because of the way the dinosaurs are depicted. In particular the quadrupedal thing that most people will think is a T-rex on all fours 🙄.

    I hate to be negative, especially on someone’s first vid, but was this video written by AI or something? Some segments have really odd wording and there’s a lot of incorrect things in the video, not to mention the complete lack of actually addressing how unbearably innacurate the film 65 is itself. And while it is good to see more people discussing this film I’d recommend working on the structure of the vid. Less stops to talk about random facts that add nothing to the content itself. Other then that, the wonky pronunciations, and the occasional logistical issues with some of the things said, pretty good start

      Hey, you are not being negative and I really need feedback to improve. No, this was not written by AI. I am new to script writing so perhaps thats why some of the word choice seems weird. If you could, can you timestamp what you thought was weird? I have been shown some of the things I was incorrect on, and know that I strive to be as accurate as possible going forward. I see that perhaps I was to leinent with the movie, and I should start calling it out more how I see it. As for the structure, I will be expirmenting a bit with what works. I really appreciate your feedback, and I hope you will be around for the next one!
