you can hear this beautiful concept (often notated as +2) all over Larry Goldings work with James Taylor. And also his wonderful updating and correction of Thelonious Monk tunes. ;^)
Larry is an incredible keyboard player- both organ AND other keyboards. Check out the Steve Gadd Band live at Leverkusener in 2015 here on YT. Some of the best live music ever made.
moving the bass line A to Bb to C and doing any of the stuff on top of it, he shows is very sparkly and open but he probably got to that later.....he did......the point is, by moving the bass line to start on A completely changes the sound from the start...and you'll find stuff on top intuitively that works.....even if you don't get it down to a science like Larry,,, even if "it is science".....as he says.
Thank you, Larry. This is a simple lesson, but what you've taught is truly golden.
That's so true. I agree.
It looks and sounds simple but takes a great amount of skill and mastery to execute
Hilarious intro, Larry! I hope people catch that great humor. Thanks so much for the phenomenal lesson. Blessings, brother!
