Careful if you push the latch closed as shown.
I did it wrong once and it almost took the end of my finger off.
And it won't let go if it gets you!
If I need to trigger the latch now, I use a screwdriver.

Thank you! I have a long hiss when starting off on a cold morning drive, and the trunk / boot lid gap looks a little bigger at the back.

at least you have heard that you have a leak, just get some epoxy and seal up, then check for more leaks and do the same. Good luck.

Hello, any suggestions to diagnose a 2003 S500 with same issue? Thanks

Does your s500 have a similar soft close on the trunk, if so then I would try and get to it, you don't need to remove but check for leaks like my video

All of the soft closers work and even the trunk. The power assist isn’t opening or closing.

Could it just be the struts? It’s a mint vehicle with only 29k on it that was garaged since purchase.

@@gsquare8585 it could well be, have you managed to check the actuator for any leaks first though? It may latch the trunk closed but try and listen if there is still any hisses?

You need to remove all the carpet to get at it?

nope ! dont bother with all the trunk lining, just unbolt the two mounts either side and pull back half the liner, hold it away with bunjee chord
