I couldn’t understand why they have low ratings when this show is one of the best. I especially almost cried when Jinkyung’s mom talk to the director, it hurts knowing that you’re daughter receives hate after doing her best. I wish Jinkyung and her mom the best.
I think most of the viewers are foreigners so they probably watch the show on apps like TH-cam or Viki instead of Korean television. That could be a reason but I also heard the show is actually popular amongst Koreans too.
Hajar Cha. Not all of the success...K-Pop was fine before its international popularity 😕 (besides, groups disband and are popular depending on how Korea likes them. That is why the cute concept still lives on, because that is the trend in Korea). However, it is very amazing for KBS to sub and to recognize that there are international fans.

Yewon tries her hardest is dancing and singing. She didnt really know how to dance at the start and now look at her. She is slaying. And despite her condition she is hanging in there. I really wish the best for her.

Malz i completely forgot what the name was but she basically hurt her throat muscles. She used to be a musical singer. She used to be able to hit all these high note that is why the producers gave her that line (the line that she was crying about in the song) but i guess it was to much for her. She is currently getting it checked right now. Becuz of that she is not able to sing properly and she has a trauma of singing. Every time she sang her voice would crack.

Jinkyung is a superwoman. She started working from a very young age and has made a name for herself. She has a successful business, is a cancer survivor, is funny and humble. This show would not be the same without her. She is the epitome of hard work and I love her. In my opinion she is a great role model for all the women.

I cant begin to express my happiness towards Yewon, she shows so much confidence in her dancing compared to the first time she started. She set her mind to do this and her results are spectacular.
For me, the problem for Yewon is her motto that she'll only sleep when she's dead is bad because water and sleep are the two things you need most as a singer and the vocal trainers are very much innocent about this. I hope she realizes this though because I bet when she started believing in that motto is what started her voice to be like that. Believe on yourself Yewon! Don't give up! You are an inspiration to all who have this kind of experience too.
That about broke my heart when Somi came out in a Twice outfit - you can tell she still hasn't gotten over just missing out - and Minzy is definitely not used to dressing sexy/glam.
All of these ladies in the show seem to be very nice and kind. Poor Jinkyung's mom feeling bad for Jinkyung for the negative comments, I feel bad for her too. This show is so great! I believe that it deserves a higher rating.

I honestly feel for Yewon. They kept on pushing her when she knew she was at her limit. But still they forced it upon her so after she practiced SOO hard they just took away that part that she worked so hard for. I understand that yes, they need to do what’s best for the song however I feel like they should’ve acknowledged the type of situation they put Yewon in. I’m glad she spoke up about it, and I was waiting for the two producers to admit their fault in forcing her into it when she didn’t want it but they just didn’t and at the end it made Yewon look bad. Yes at the end Yewon looks more comfortable in her new part, but she literally went through all that stress and strained her throat and voice so much, especially in her condition, to practice for a part she knew she couldn’t do (at least within their time frame) but was still forced to.
I agree, this is the harsh reality of the music industry. Though I really appreciate how true and transparent this was. Showing the faults and emotions from not only the unnies but the teachers too. This show is amazing.
I agree it felt bad but this is also the reality in kpop groups. (I think in our respective works and professional fields a well since empliyees are also forced to do tasks they are not comfortable with, then replaced by others) They get assigned lines and positions then suddenly changed it. This show really showed what happens to a group. Happy that yewon got more confident tho.
fr.. and when they were praising sook like "she's doing it so casually" and "where have you been all this time" when yewon was literally sitting behind them😭😭yewon even went to the doctor last time and he said that she was at her worst condition and the producers still gave her the high part. i feel like chaeyoung was sensing yewon getting sad and you can actually see her looking at yewon sympathetically many times like in 1:00:15 & 1:02:48
And I hate the part where they asked to use her throat voice. They shouldn't have ask her to do that. It could have worsen her throat's condition. Well, I guess nobody is perfect so they made a mistake. I started watching this because I saw Jinkyung, then later find out that Jinyoung, Sook, and Chaeyoung (love her so much) are here. But when I got to know Yewon's story, she stole my heart in a special way cause I love to do theater and musicals. I love all the girls now in their own way. Just really hate Yewon went through stress and hardship like that. it's so hard to bounce back from trauma like that and something like that happens. I appreciate them pushing her to overcome her trauma. But Yewon knows her limit and she had reached it. And they just didn't listen. Only Mr. Serious and the other members were the only one listening. And what I heard from them sounded more as excuses. That upsets me. Anyway, no hate. Just a little irritated after watching it again. This is just IMO.
@@youngheejin yeah, I get that the producer and director have their "artistic vision" of how they want the song to sound like, and that the throat voice was the way to get there, but asking someone whose condition doesn't allow them to use their throat to the fullest.... It just feels wrong to push them towards an impossible goal (at least in the short amount of time they had). I also get that they wanted to have their hopes up but they also mentioned the limited amount of time they had. Like dude, you knew of the limited time frame from the beginning. You still chose to push Yewon to her limit and then just jumped on the brakes like "oh it would seem that we don't have enough time to get you where you need to be in order to produce results we want sooooooo we're gonna change your part and solidify your own doubts you had about yourself WHOOPS"... The only other thing (besides the part about overcoming her trauma that you mentioned) I appreciated is that they never once said Yewon's voice was bad etc., just that it didn't suit the particular lines. Still felt terrible for Yewon though. I'm glad she had the other members to console her :(
sook must be in an awkward situation when asked to sing yewon's parts...despite wanting to sing in the early parts of the song and having the voice tone to do it, she still gave up the opportunity to shine for yewon, i applaud her for her unselfish-ness
this is why the teachers should also take into consideration what the "students" are saying, yewon knows her range, she knows her limits. if they wouldve listened to her from the start it couldve saved them so much time. i get that they wanted to push her and believe in her but sometimes its better to know your limits then force it. im glad the part switch turned out well tho, yewon is working so hard im so proud of her :) also im glad im not the only one who wasnt feeling the stage outfits, they look ok separately (minzys was the only one i like tbh) but like together it looks messy, just like what the guy dance teacher said. i hope they tone down the outfits or like change them up a bit before the debut stage. unnies fighting :)
You're right it was harsh for her she has a trauma with her voice and yet they gave her a hard part and then took it away from her! I'm not saying they should have still give it to her but stop pushing her when she said she really can't as you said!

Literally was about to say the same thing. The director said it harshly to her as well, as if it was her fault. Even when she repeatedly said she has always practiced with head voice to avoid further trauma. I get what the director was saying but he needn't be so rude about it.
OMGitsChrisyy ikr id be crying out of frustation too being yewon. imagine when the people you trust who trust you too made you want to do the best despite knowing your own limit but in the end they knew its impossible and just throw you out (well in yewons case shes not being thrown). sook has clearly strong voice and suits for the hook chorus part, and the teacher trained yewon to use head voice then suddenly the producers made her singin with throat voice. stupid handsome trainer. but im glad at the end ut turned out well I love these unnies ❤

Jinkyung is my life I'm so glad she's on the show. She's so unique and quirky lmao!! Although it's visible that she isn't very talented in the singing and dancing area, but everyone loves to watch her put effort into improving her performance and skills! It's sad if others judge her and bash her. Jinkyung is just a beautifully hilarious unnie chasing her girl group dream lol!

The show would be half as funny and fun without Jinkyung. She and Sook are the most essential members of the show. Yes, she's terrible at singing and dancing but that's where a lot of the fun comes. The show and other members clown on her so much for being so bad but they do it because she can take it with really good humor. Jinkyung and Sook are really good at keeping the show funny. I mean the rest of the members are great too, but there's a reason why it's Jinkyung and Sook that were invited back. It's sad to me that a lot of people in Korea just bad mouth her when she's such an important driver of the show. Take her out of the show and the show's a lot less fun.
Jinkyung is literally a motivation for many. From battling cancer, being a mum, a ceo and to an entertainer. I look up to her so much, she deserves so much love and respect
i LOOOOOOOOVE Jinkyung!!! It makes me sad that apparently people write mean comments about her online. when i first started watching sister's slamdunk i honestly had no idea who she was, i just thought she was the funny one. but learning more about her through the show, it really makes me admire her. working for her family at a young age, starting her own business, and just her work ethic overall! i also really love how she tries to bring attention to larger "political" topics such as climate change from last season, and now i see her kind of reminding people to go out and vote, cause honestly these things are important for the bigger picture of society, and I like that she uses her voice for it!

tbh I think Jinkyung also did a good job at salvaging the mood in the studio after sook and yewon stepped out. the fact that she addressed the teachers' feelings made a hell of a difference. i think she's underrated and hope she gets all positive comments :(
I love how happy Minzy is in this time. Not that she wasn’t happy with 2NE1 before but it’s like she gets to be with new different kinds of people knowing her middle school years story.
it's hard for a classically trained singer to sing pop style, irrespective of vocal chord conditions/trauma, so it's no wonder Yaewon is having a hard time. All these things that they tell her to do are flat out wrong in classical singing (e.g., what they call "bending", when you don't actually hit the note straight on, but scoop into it, is a huge no no in classical singing). also belting from your chest when it's actually a head register for you - that makes no sense to a classical singer. The genres are different so it's perhaps not fair to say one is correct and another isn't, but the fact is that pop singers are untrained singers and not technically proficient (they don't have to be since their voices are always amplified) and classical singers are trained into technical perfection so that they can project over huge orchestras into gigantic halls without any mics/speakers and still not ruin their voice. So I would be really annoyed in her position to be continuously corrected on her "technique" when in fact she is being told to forget her correct technique and adapt a wrong technique. On the other hand, they are making pop music and she needs to sound like an idol, not a classical (or even musical theatre) singer. So I get both sides - it's a tough situation they are all in.
I know this comment is old, but I wouldn't say it's impossible to sing in both genres. I'm a classical singer who also sings pop rock and it's definitely doable. The problem here is the vocal director. He's not very familiar with the classical techniques. My pop rock vocal coach also came from a classical background and she does a fantastic job in helping me to bridge the gap between both genres.
when she joined the show she should have been prepared for that, its like learning languages they are 2 different things, you don't try and apply your native into another language but you learn the other language as it is. same with singing genre's, you drop your classical knowledge to learn the style. but yes the producers aren't exactly professional especially after that first recording episode, they don't seem to know how to teach properly either. for yewon to hit those notes well she shouldn't have been forced to belt, she should have mixed for that range because it was the most unstable for her. She could have pulled it off if she had a better teacher
@@lynkkx yeah i agree she knew what she was getting into - as a classically trained singer who doesn't live under a rock, there is no way she wouldn't know that the singing techniques are different. I do think though she probably had some notion of being able to adapt her singing to a different technique in a more healthy way. Like you say, the producers are not great, and they could have taught her to adapt her head voice to make it sound less classical without switching completely to belting in her unstable range. It's especially frustrating because the male vocal teacher (the one everyone had a crush on) had taught her the mixed voice technique and that's what she was relying on, but then in the recording the producers told her to belt from chest. I think that is what frustrated her the most - she was told to do one thing but then the rug was pulled out from underneath her. In the end they switched her part, which was the obvious thing to do, and I am sure that was immediately obvious in reality but they milked the moment and made her suffer through that long an attempt for the "drama". I feel for her for being used in that way, but again, she knew what she was signing up for (a reality series, which everyone knows is not just unedited reality) and it was a useful learning moment for the audience to teach a variety of aspects of what it is to be a recording artist. Anyway sorry for the novel of a response.
@@Satopi3104 nah I agree too, yewon even said before she sang that ballad song that she didn't want everyone watching to get their hopes up in the way that she would be able to pull off the part and it was enough that they could see that she was trying her best. But yeah variety shows are still just trying to find any kind of entertainment to boost ratings. I still believe she could have pulled that part off if she had more time and a better teacher tho. I think her biggest barrier is still her lack of confidence tho which isn't something easy to just produce out of thin air.
@@lynkkx oh yeah completely. singing is such a mind game - you can't manipulate an external thing like with an instrument, so once you get in a weird head space, there is really nothing outside of you and objective you can go back to. Like, I can sight read fairly decently in lessons and can find my place in a harmony almost on instinct, but when I try to sight read in an audition it just completely goes to shit lol. I remember her talking about one incident where she was forced to sing on TV and she sang the national anthem because she couldn't think of anything else, and in that clip, you can see she is on the verge of tears. I pulled a similar antic in the past and I know how deeply embarrassing and confidence eviscerating something like that can be. If she wasn't somehow traumatized as per singing before that incident, she definitely was after. I feel for her and I really hope she is in a happier singing place now.

I know the show was 3 years ago, but I really rooting for Yewon. She is such a pure soul who deep inside dreams to be able to sing again. Lots of viewers critique the vocal director for demanding Yewon do something that not in her field. (OK. I annoyed too with him). But I kinda understand because they are paid for this show to build a girl group. So he had his own standard and expectations. Meanwhile the vocal coach teached her based on her ability and vocal cord problem. He gave Yewon hopes and confidence to sing again. We can see how much Yewon improved within his classes. I really hope, Yewon will able to sing again and enjoy it.
2 more days before 2019 ends and im still rewatching the whole season...how i wish they continued this show especially since it's kind of rare to have an all female casts in korean variety shows like this one which makes it refreshing to watch...
the vocal director is being super inconsiderate to yewons throat condition. forcing her to sing that high note in her chest voice can totally reverse all the hard work she's putting into her recovery.
making hard decisions is apart of their jobs. of course they feel bad they had to to switch who sung the part but thats just how it is. they even said that even if yewon was able to sing the notes, the part wouldnt suit her. personally, i feel bad for yewon, but she understood that things like this happen all the time (even if she cried out of frustration, id react that way too). they even admitted they felt bad for doing that to her which rarely happens. if they pushed through with yewon singing those notes without her vocal capability, then it would've end up bad. it is for the best, i personally think it worked out at the end.
@@aenoty Yewon already told the instructor from the very beginning that she couldn't hit that note but they kept on insisting that she should do it. They force her to push her self to the limit and spend hundreds of hour of practice time only to tell her that she should not do that part after all. Yewon is a professional classical singer and had been trained to sing from middle school to university, she herself know very well what can and can't be done. If they listen to her opinion from the very beginning I don't think Yewon would break down like this but because they gave her false hope for months and wasting her time learning something that she would never use again, I think that is why the part changes hit her way harder than she would expected.
I feel like if she REALLY had a problem with it and felt uncomfortable doing it she would have refused. But I do think pushing yourself is part of how you learn, but then again they might be taking it a bit too far 😅

Yewon has the same kind of underdog appeal as Sohye. Both are actresses who made the leap to temp idols and they both always think they're worse than they are. Kind of make you want to hide them from the world but also brag about them all the time.
I can't with Jinyoung anymore. She's too damn adorable, sexy, caring. She's just too much. I also felt so happy and so sad for Yewon. Her dancing has come a long way and she's really good. I was also really rooting for her to kick some major ass in her vocals. Really heartbreaking but she did kill it in her new part. And Somi, never change. I love her playfulness. People were saying she's too young and doesn't fit in with the other but I really disagree. Yes she's young but she adds so much to the Unnies. Another great episode thank you KBS
Honestly I'm really happy she is no part of them, she has been showing so many sides of hersef an her talents since P101 that it would be sad having her just as part of TWICE. But what saddens me most is that looks like she doesn't acknowledge this fact. YOU ROCK SOMI!!

I love Yewon! Her determination is no other. She might have made mistakes and have plenty of worries but she tries A LOT to overcome them and make things right. When she falls down, she goes right back up and when she does, she returns much much better.
I don't really like their fashion designer, somi's outfit was so basic. I feel like she dismissed sook's body and assets and just picked anything for her.

love season 1, i miss some of the original unnies ra miran,jessie,tiffany and hyorin.. season 1 are more of pursuing every dream from each 1 of the unnies and lot's of touching and emotional moment on every episode .. to me season 1 is consider the best and happy sook & jinkyung still around..
I 'm so late for this but I really do love Jinkyung. Despite being the 2nd eldest and a mom, she has this innocence and she seems so pure that makes her so cute and adorable. I felt really bad and teared up a bit on the part where her mother was sharing how she felt bad when netizens where saying mean things to her daughter. I'm becoming a big fan of Kang Yewon, she is incredibly sexy, hard working and humble woman, it is a pleasure to watch her in this show. I love the fact how Minzy and Somi sticks together, I think they are good friends now:) This season is the best:)

I love this show, but I really wish Yewon's original part had been handled differently, especially if the vocal coach taught Yewon how to get around her condition and sing the high notes properly without hurting her throat by using head-voice. Why in the ever loving hell did they think she was the best choice to do them in throat-voice for the recording? Jinyoung (the teacher) explicitly told her to avoid that. Even after the doctor's visit, she said it would take months if not years for her throat to recover. It's nice that it worked out, but I do wish this kind of situation had been avoided in the first place.
i really hope they don't go with these outfits. the outfits the members suggested during choosing concept were much better. the outfits are so different from each other it honestly looks horrible. esp sook's and jinkyung's outfits. the girls worked so hard for this please don't ruin it with the outfits;;;; the choreography will look quite "unorganized"

The outfits are not done yet, but I can agree that it doesn't look flattering nor do I think it fits the concept or theme of the song. I'm not feeling it, and it look so 1970s to me because of the bold colors.
I noticed that comments from the trainers were omitted a lot in that segment. Maybe it was edited that way on purpose, so we will be surprised by the final outfit during the debut.
It's 2022 and I am still enjoying every episode. Unnies 2 is handsdown my favorite show--funny, heartwarming, sincere, and inspiring. I was really hoping for season 3 :( Too bad the show got canceled.

I couldn’t understand why they have low ratings when this show is one of the best. I especially almost cried when Jinkyung’s mom talk to the director, it hurts knowing that you’re daughter receives hate after doing her best. I wish Jinkyung and her mom the best.

I think most of the viewers are foreigners so they probably watch the show on apps like TH-cam or Viki instead of Korean television. That could be a reason but I also heard the show is actually popular amongst Koreans too.

Malz i completely forgot what the name was but she basically hurt her throat muscles. She used to be a musical singer. She used to be able to hit all these high note that is why the producers gave her that line (the line that she was crying about in the song) but i guess it was to much for her. She is currently getting it checked right now. Becuz of that she is not able to sing properly and she has a trauma of singing. Every time she sang her voice would crack.

Jinkyung is a superwoman. She started working from a very young age and has made a name for herself. She has a successful business, is a cancer survivor, is funny and humble. This show would not be the same without her. She is the epitome of hard work and I love her. In my opinion she is a great role model for all the women.

I cant begin to express my happiness towards Yewon, she shows so much confidence in her dancing compared to the first time she started. She set her mind to do this and her results are spectacular.
She looks so confident now ^^ When she switched parts with Sook and got complimented alot by the producers, I was seriously happy for her.
For me, the problem for Yewon is her motto that she'll only sleep when she's dead is bad because water and sleep are the two things you need most as a singer and the vocal trainers are very much innocent about this. I hope she realizes this though because I bet when she started believing in that motto is what started her voice to be like that. Believe on yourself Yewon! Don't give up! You are an inspiration to all who have this kind of experience too.
That about broke my heart when Somi came out in a Twice outfit - you can tell she still hasn't gotten over just missing out - and Minzy is definitely not used to dressing sexy/glam.
All of these ladies in the show seem to be very nice and kind. Poor Jinkyung's mom feeling bad for Jinkyung for the negative comments, I feel bad for her too.
This show is so great! I believe that it deserves a higher rating.

I honestly feel for Yewon. They kept on pushing her when she knew she was at her limit. But still they forced it upon her so after she practiced SOO hard they just took away that part that she worked so hard for. I understand that yes, they need to do what’s best for the song however I feel like they should’ve acknowledged the type of situation they put Yewon in. I’m glad she spoke up about it, and I was waiting for the two producers to admit their fault in forcing her into it when she didn’t want it but they just didn’t and at the end it made Yewon look bad. Yes at the end Yewon looks more comfortable in her new part, but she literally went through all that stress and strained her throat and voice so much, especially in her condition, to practice for a part she knew she couldn’t do (at least within their time frame) but was still forced to.
I agree, this is the harsh reality of the music industry. Though I really appreciate how true and transparent this was. Showing the faults and emotions from not only the unnies but the teachers too. This show is amazing.
I agree it felt bad but this is also the reality in kpop groups. (I think in our respective works and professional fields a well since empliyees are also forced to do tasks they are not comfortable with, then replaced by others) They get assigned lines and positions then suddenly changed it. This show really showed what happens to a group. Happy that yewon got more confident tho.

I started watching this because I saw Jinkyung, then later find out that Jinyoung, Sook, and Chaeyoung (love her so much) are here. But when I got to know Yewon's story, she stole my heart in a special way cause I love to do theater and musicals. I love all the girls now in their own way.
Just really hate Yewon went through stress and hardship like that. it's so hard to bounce back from trauma like that and something like that happens.
I appreciate them pushing her to overcome her trauma. But Yewon knows her limit and she had reached it. And they just didn't listen. Only Mr. Serious and the other members were the only one listening. And what I heard from them sounded more as excuses. That upsets me.
Anyway, no hate. Just a little irritated after watching it again. This is just IMO.
@@youngheejin yeah, I get that the producer and director have their "artistic vision" of how they want the song to sound like, and that the throat voice was the way to get there, but asking someone whose condition doesn't allow them to use their throat to the fullest.... It just feels wrong to push them towards an impossible goal (at least in the short amount of time they had).
I also get that they wanted to have their hopes up but they also mentioned the limited amount of time they had. Like dude, you knew of the limited time frame from the beginning. You still chose to push Yewon to her limit and then just jumped on the brakes like "oh it would seem that we don't have enough time to get you where you need to be in order to produce results we want sooooooo we're gonna change your part and solidify your own doubts you had about yourself WHOOPS"...
The only other thing (besides the part about overcoming her trauma that you mentioned) I appreciated is that they never once said Yewon's voice was bad etc., just that it didn't suit the particular lines. Still felt terrible for Yewon though. I'm glad she had the other members to console her :(

The show would be half as funny and fun without Jinkyung. She and Sook are the most essential members of the show. Yes, she's terrible at singing and dancing but that's where a lot of the fun comes. The show and other members clown on her so much for being so bad but they do it because she can take it with really good humor. Jinkyung and Sook are really good at keeping the show funny. I mean the rest of the members are great too, but there's a reason why it's Jinkyung and Sook that were invited back.
It's sad to me that a lot of people in Korea just bad mouth her when she's such an important driver of the show. Take her out of the show and the show's a lot less fun.

It makes me sad that apparently people write mean comments about her online. when i first started watching sister's slamdunk i honestly had no idea who she was, i just thought she was the funny one. but learning more about her through the show, it really makes me admire her. working for her family at a young age, starting her own business, and just her work ethic overall! i also really love how she tries to bring attention to larger "political" topics such as climate change from last season, and now i see her kind of reminding people to go out and vote, cause honestly these things are important for the bigger picture of society, and I like that she uses her voice for it!

it's hard for a classically trained singer to sing pop style, irrespective of vocal chord conditions/trauma, so it's no wonder Yaewon is having a hard time. All these things that they tell her to do are flat out wrong in classical singing (e.g., what they call "bending", when you don't actually hit the note straight on, but scoop into it, is a huge no no in classical singing). also belting from your chest when it's actually a head register for you - that makes no sense to a classical singer. The genres are different so it's perhaps not fair to say one is correct and another isn't, but the fact is that pop singers are untrained singers and not technically proficient (they don't have to be since their voices are always amplified) and classical singers are trained into technical perfection so that they can project over huge orchestras into gigantic halls without any mics/speakers and still not ruin their voice. So I would be really annoyed in her position to be continuously corrected on her "technique" when in fact she is being told to forget her correct technique and adapt a wrong technique. On the other hand, they are making pop music and she needs to sound like an idol, not a classical (or even musical theatre) singer. So I get both sides - it's a tough situation they are all in.
I know this comment is old, but I wouldn't say it's impossible to sing in both genres. I'm a classical singer who also sings pop rock and it's definitely doable. The problem here is the vocal director. He's not very familiar with the classical techniques. My pop rock vocal coach also came from a classical background and she does a fantastic job in helping me to bridge the gap between both genres.
when she joined the show she should have been prepared for that, its like learning languages they are 2 different things, you don't try and apply your native into another language but you learn the other language as it is. same with singing genre's, you drop your classical knowledge to learn the style. but yes the producers aren't exactly professional especially after that first recording episode, they don't seem to know how to teach properly either. for yewon to hit those notes well she shouldn't have been forced to belt, she should have mixed for that range because it was the most unstable for her. She could have pulled it off if she had a better teacher
@@lynkkx yeah i agree she knew what she was getting into - as a classically trained singer who doesn't live under a rock, there is no way she wouldn't know that the singing techniques are different. I do think though she probably had some notion of being able to adapt her singing to a different technique in a more healthy way. Like you say, the producers are not great, and they could have taught her to adapt her head voice to make it sound less classical without switching completely to belting in her unstable range. It's especially frustrating because the male vocal teacher (the one everyone had a crush on) had taught her the mixed voice technique and that's what she was relying on, but then in the recording the producers told her to belt from chest. I think that is what frustrated her the most - she was told to do one thing but then the rug was pulled out from underneath her. In the end they switched her part, which was the obvious thing to do, and I am sure that was immediately obvious in reality but they milked the moment and made her suffer through that long an attempt for the "drama". I feel for her for being used in that way, but again, she knew what she was signing up for (a reality series, which everyone knows is not just unedited reality) and it was a useful learning moment for the audience to teach a variety of aspects of what it is to be a recording artist. Anyway sorry for the novel of a response.
@@Satopi3104 nah I agree too, yewon even said before she sang that ballad song that she didn't want everyone watching to get their hopes up in the way that she would be able to pull off the part and it was enough that they could see that she was trying her best. But yeah variety shows are still just trying to find any kind of entertainment to boost ratings. I still believe she could have pulled that part off if she had more time and a better teacher tho. I think her biggest barrier is still her lack of confidence tho which isn't something easy to just produce out of thin air.
@@lynkkx oh yeah completely. singing is such a mind game - you can't manipulate an external thing like with an instrument, so once you get in a weird head space, there is really nothing outside of you and objective you can go back to. Like, I can sight read fairly decently in lessons and can find my place in a harmony almost on instinct, but when I try to sight read in an audition it just completely goes to shit lol. I remember her talking about one incident where she was forced to sing on TV and she sang the national anthem because she couldn't think of anything else, and in that clip, you can see she is on the verge of tears. I pulled a similar antic in the past and I know how deeply embarrassing and confidence eviscerating something like that can be. If she wasn't somehow traumatized as per singing before that incident, she definitely was after. I feel for her and I really hope she is in a happier singing place now.

Lots of viewers critique the vocal director for demanding Yewon do something that not in her field. (OK. I annoyed too with him). But I kinda understand because they are paid for this show to build a girl group. So he had his own standard and expectations.
Meanwhile the vocal coach teached her based on her ability and vocal cord problem. He gave Yewon hopes and confidence to sing again. We can see how much Yewon improved within his classes.
I really hope, Yewon will able to sing again and enjoy it.
2 more days before 2019 ends and im still rewatching the whole season...how i wish they continued this show especially since it's kind of rare to have an all female casts in korean variety shows like this one which makes it refreshing to watch...

the vocal director is being super inconsiderate to yewons throat condition. forcing her to sing that high note in her chest voice can totally reverse all the hard work she's putting into her recovery.
making hard decisions is apart of their jobs. of course they feel bad they had to to switch who sung the part but thats just how it is. they even said that even if yewon was able to sing the notes, the part wouldnt suit her. personally, i feel bad for yewon, but she understood that things like this happen all the time (even if she cried out of frustration, id react that way too). they even admitted they felt bad for doing that to her which rarely happens. if they pushed through with yewon singing those notes without her vocal capability, then it would've end up bad. it is for the best, i personally think it worked out at the end.
@@aenoty Yewon already told the instructor from the very beginning that she couldn't hit that note but they kept on insisting that she should do it. They force her to push her self to the limit and spend hundreds of hour of practice time only to tell her that she should not do that part after all. Yewon is a professional classical singer and had been trained to sing from middle school to university, she herself know very well what can and can't be done.
If they listen to her opinion from the very beginning I don't think Yewon would break down like this but because they gave her false hope for months and wasting her time learning something that she would never use again, I think that is why the part changes hit her way harder than she would expected.
I feel like if she REALLY had a problem with it and felt uncomfortable doing it she would have refused. But I do think pushing yourself is part of how you learn, but then again they might be taking it a bit too far 😅

For me, the problem for Yewon is her motto that she'll only sleep when she's dead is bad because water and sleep are the two things you need most as a singer and the vocal trainers are very much innocent about this. I hope she realizes this though because I bet when she started believing in that motto is what started her voice to be like that. Believe on yourself Yewon! Don't give up! You are an inspiration to all who have this kind of experience too.

Yewon has the same kind of underdog appeal as Sohye. Both are actresses who made the leap to temp idols and they both always think they're worse than they are. Kind of make you want to hide them from the world but also brag about them all the time.
I'm glad Somi isn't in Twice. I feel like she'll do much better in a smaller group, or as a soloist.

I can't with Jinyoung anymore. She's too damn adorable, sexy, caring. She's just too much. I also felt so happy and so sad for Yewon. Her dancing has come a long way and she's really good. I was also really rooting for her to kick some major ass in her vocals. Really heartbreaking but she did kill it in her new part. And Somi, never change. I love her playfulness. People were saying she's too young and doesn't fit in with the other but I really disagree. Yes she's young but she adds so much to the Unnies. Another great episode thank you KBS

I love Yewon! Her determination is no other. She might have made mistakes and have plenty of worries but she tries A LOT to overcome them and make things right. When she falls down, she goes right back up and when she does, she returns much much better.

Honestly though, they are really good at their job. They never wanted to make her feel bad and they admitted they were wrong to do that to her. They made it better though when they recorded the new part and she really shined on it.

love season 1, i miss some of the original unnies ra miran,jessie,tiffany and hyorin.. season 1 are more of pursuing every dream from each 1 of the unnies and lot's of touching and emotional moment on every episode .. to me season 1 is consider the best and happy sook & jinkyung still around..
I 'm so late for this but I really do love Jinkyung. Despite being the 2nd eldest and a mom, she has this innocence and she seems so pure that makes her so cute and adorable. I felt really bad and teared up a bit on the part where her mother was sharing how she felt bad when netizens where saying mean things to her daughter. Unnie and eomma fighting and stay healthy this new year! Happy New Year! Saranghae~
OMG, I wanted to cry when Yewon had so much trouble, but then I almost cried again when she nailed the other part! (Also, I think I need to steal Somi's big Snorlax!)
I'm becoming a big fan of Kang Yewon, she is incredibly sexy, hard working and humble woman, it is a pleasure to watch her in this show. I love the fact how Minzy and Somi sticks together, I think they are good friends now:) This season is the best:)

I love this show, but I really wish Yewon's original part had been handled differently, especially if the vocal coach taught Yewon how to get around her condition and sing the high notes properly without hurting her throat by using head-voice. Why in the ever loving hell did they think she was the best choice to do them in throat-voice for the recording? Jinyoung (the teacher) explicitly told her to avoid that. Even after the doctor's visit, she said it would take months if not years for her throat to recover.
It's nice that it worked out, but I do wish this kind of situation had been avoided in the first place.
I'm really happy for yewon because she debuted with nothing and became really good 😊. I'm sure she was dancer in another life

i really hope they don't go with these outfits. the outfits the members suggested during choosing concept were much better. the outfits are so different from each other it honestly looks horrible. esp sook's and jinkyung's outfits. the girls worked so hard for this please don't ruin it with the outfits;;;; the choreography will look quite "unorganized"

The outfits are not done yet, but I can agree that it doesn't look flattering nor do I think it fits the concept or theme of the song. I'm not feeling it, and it look so 1970s to me because of the bold colors.
I noticed that comments from the trainers were omitted a lot in that segment. Maybe it was edited that way on purpose, so we will be surprised by the final outfit during the debut.

It's 2022 and I am still enjoying every episode. Unnies 2 is handsdown my favorite show--funny, heartwarming, sincere, and inspiring. I was really hoping for season 3 :( Too bad the show got canceled.
