When you're Asian you know you rarely measure your food
When my Mom taught me how to cook the fish, she used the measurements like half rice bowl of soy sauce and wine, one Chinese soup spoon of sugar, one hand full of green onion, etc. The rice bowl and soup spoon are all the ones owned by my Mom for the last 30 or 40 years.
That's not specifically Asian, just when you learn to cook properly you can measure by feel or the way it looks

Yea reminds me of my mom. When She was teaching me how to cook when I was like 9 or 10. We were making hand made noodles and I saw her test to see if it was cooked. She just took a piece from the pot of boiling broth barehanded. And put it in her mouth.

It is the same warning my Dad gave me when I was 4 or 5 years old. He also warned me about the spilling of the meat juice. My first bite on a proper meat bao, the juice flew out for about one foot away. That was really juicy!!!

Dumplings come in many shapes and forms and while this might not look like a potsticker or any other generic type of dumpling it is considered a dumpling under the broad definition of dough wrapped around filling. Even when you search up Baozi Wikipedia calls it a "bread-like dumpling".

Freaking adorable. I love this. I was VERY young when I had my daughter, only 18, I got married right after and three years later had my son. We are still happily married and raising our children. As my daughter grows, our relationship changes, but we still have fun like this.

Aw haha I love watching these videos as someone who is able to understand Chinese. :) I know there are subtitles, but it's always funnier in the original language because certain subtleties can't be translated.

This video made me emotional and cry. The mannerisms that your mother had mirror my own when she teaches me how to cook. Sadly it's not as much as much anymore since life had gotten busier. I love ‘pinch of this dash of that’ cooking that we can only really get from our grandmothers and mothers. There’s something so important about learning that instinctual feel for the balance of cooking that you can only really get to learn at someones side, rather than from a book. My Nain taught me how to cook and it was always like this- just knowing from the smell and the feel of the food if it was right or not. That’s what makes it taste like home

More videos with your mom! I can relate to this - my mom is a hawk in the kitchen. She knows I can cook, she just likes to pick at small details. That's why I prep and cook everything at my home, then bring it over to my parent's. Love her.

This make me super grateful to Asian parents. I am super glad my dad had me in the kitchen as the sous chef after 11 years old and on and taught me proper knife technique, uniform veg. cutting and cleanliness and organization in the kitchen. We both still love cooking and I still call him for walk through on recipes! Thanks to Asian tiger cooking parents!
