Good video makes sense in many ways. My biggest reason (for GK3) is the more build plate area equals the more you can print within the same time period. Thats why to me, the larger printer makes more sense. You dont have to print large models, I will most likely print 60 30mm minis in one go most of the time.
You expressed the EXACT feelings I am having. I just got my GK2 - and I got the Saturn 4 Ultra. Between the two of them, I can print pretty much anything I want. It's hard to justify $1000 for a hobby (toy) at this point. Making statues and miniatures is fun and all, But for me it's not a tool, just a toy to make other toys so I can destress painting.
@theromeog: I am torn between these two models. They currently have only 150€ price difference. Would you recommend the gk2? Ease of use is more important than print speed for me.
@@lllphil9423 Ease of use - Both are great. the GK2 is a bit slower but you get a bigger build surface and I truly feel like the GK2 is more reliable. I have had random failures that were unexplainable on the S4U. But the GK2 I can say all the failures have been user error. Trying to print to fast, not enough lift or rest or supports etc.
Hi. I am debating the GK2 or Saturn 4 Ultra. They are both the same price right now. Thinking GK2 for simplicity. I am just a hobbyist and love making things for fun. Not running a business.
I will definitely be upgrading my GKTwo to a GKThree at some point, just not right away. I want the larger print volume, and the GKThree is supposed to be able to send AND start prints from Wifi which I really missed when I moved from Elegoo to Uniformation so it would be nice to have that. Thing is they are still, 3 months after this video, not yet shipping. So I'm going to wait until the "preorder" is complete and the product is actually out. Until then I have my GKTwo and a new HG Reflex (OG) on the way.
There are advantages to a larger plate even if you don't need the size for a single item. Given the way resin printing works, a given layer takes the same amount of time no matter how much is packed on it. So a larger build plate on the XY means you can print more in the same amount of time.
Your reasoning makes sense to me. I did go ahead and pre-order a GK3 however. I'm 6-months into this crazy world and my starter printer (Anycubic Mono 4k) is a little workhorse. I knew I'd be getting an upgrade this year and my sights were on the S4U and M7 Pro, however both had usability issues I wasn't thrilled about. The GK2 was in a close 3rd on my list as it looks like a solid all around printer. Well enter the GK#! I'm not a mini guy, I like printing bigger, so this emmedeatley jumped across the finish line. Your note about the 1st manufacturing run did cross my mind, but how Uniformation handled the GK2 convinced me that it was worth the gamble.
Thank you for the review, probably still getting one as I need to print full size body parts for animatronics I build. Printing a full head is a nightmare in smaller formats, this seems to be exactly what I needed to get my characters.
I was a little afraid to watch you vid since I've jjust ordered a GK3... But after watching i am relieved because I think it fits for me since I have no GK2 :)
a good review all round.. one thing I find an advantage of a larger build plate though is not the printing of larger models, but the ability to print more models at the same time, an Achilles heel of most printers is the shear time it takes to grind through consecutive prints..and in a system where there is no appreciable difference in time between printing 1 widget or 100 on the print bed, having the facility to cram in more stuff in one go can be incredibly time saving in the long run.
Hi greedy! Love your content man! Been looking at a lot of your heygears videos in which you use different resins in it and they work great! I’m in the market for a resin printer but it will be my first ever, I’m currently torn between this new gk3 and the heygears but I’m leaning towards the heygears due to its ease of use and now it seems I can use cheaper resin for it too I can’t really see why I wouldn’t get it? Like why would I get the gk3 over the heygears or am I missing something special with the gk3? I get its bigger but does that REALLY matter? Which would you advise me to get if you had to pick one of the two?
If I'm absolutely honest with you I'm a little biased towards the ultra craft reflex purely because it's been my go-to printer now for some time and is so reliable and is produced some amazing results I'm not trying to sway you one way or the other because it's got to be your choice just check the description of the videos because both of those printers are offering some money off at the moment the gk3 is still in its pre full price stage and my code for the hey gears will get you $200 off and two free bottles of resin. If you want a massive bill plate the gk3 offers that but if you want reliability and a happy with a smaller build size I'd go hey gears but that's not just my personal opinion of course
I’ve seen a few other 3D printing TH-camrs also mention either in a video or livestream that the heygears is also there daily/go-to printer! I think I’m definitely going to go with heygears to be honest because realistically if I need anything bigger like bases or terrain I will likely just get a bambu fdm printer! By the way, the link for your discount on the heygears printer, it reduces the price but only gives you ONE free bottle of parp10 not TWO! I just added it to my basket and for some reason only shows as having 1 free bottle! Thank you for your reply though and I look forward to your upcoming videos, especially heygears related ones 😅
@NathMid1997 hey gears know about the problem with one bottle of resin if you put the order through contact hey gears and let them know they'll add another bottle of resin to it it's a problem with their system
Good video. The good thing is more features and larger build area where you can print big things but also print a lot of little things. The increased quality of 16K keeps it slightly ahead of other printers. I have the Saturn 3 Ultra and it works great, however I like the features of the GK3. I won't buy it now because I want to get my money's worth out of the my saturn. If I didn't have my saturn I would get the GK3 but that also means getting the larger wash and cure station, so thats an additional cost. However I'm a 'buy once, cry once' type of guy (I got my saturn 3 ultra with wash and cure station). Still its a great machine but it depends what a person already has, what they want and budget. Still very tempting but my next big purchase will be the larger build area Bambu printer that is supposed to come out this year.
I looked at these when I got the announcement email and while I've enjoyed my GK2 to print enough to go through one LCD already, I'm at the point where I need other machines/processes to expand what I can do with the resin, or more correctly, what it's not good at. I ended up getting a large but still hobby-size CNC to get into that world and make molds, strength-specific parts, etc. I almost went in for a large FDM machine, but I had my run with FDM once before, which is how I got into resin. Maybe I'll look at the 3 in a year or so, as there's a few things I'm not too keen on, or haven't been given enough information to decide. I was a fairly early adopter of the 2 and sent them a load of requests to improve on, even though the 2 is a very solid printer. Kinda looks like they went the opposite direction on this model. Definitely not interested if that resin tank is proprietary or required to run a print.
I'm right there with you Greedy. I love my GKTwo but anything that doesn't fit on it, which are usually large one piece bases, i print on my P1S. I just can't justify a GKThree based on what i print. Now when bambu releases a larger P1S, that i will consider. Great content as always my friend!
I'm very happy with my GK1, yup GK1... I have had zero issues, zero failed prints, and the company even found me and sent to Mexico an extra LCD screen just in case I needed one in the future... they have helped me directly with all my question, for what I print, prototypes, minis, parts for microscopes, etc... it works great...
Totally agree! But if you still need a bigger printer go for the Anycubic Max 3. Almost 500 cheaper. The resin refill on it sucks but I don't find I don't really need it. Also get a heat band for it. Works awesome and still way cheaper.
I just pre ordered one. Its not over £1000. Its over $1000. It actually works out to around £860 on pre order which i thought was actually pretty damn good. Plus i got a free nfep pack that would of cost me another £49. I think it's definitely worth it. At least for me it is 😃
I guess my thoughts are if you've got a gk2 why would you spend all that money on basically a bigger gk2 and when it goes up to its full price it's going to cost a lot more
@@greedy3d480 I do get where you are coming from. For me a larger printer is great especially one from uniformation given how great the gktwo is. I'm happy for now with my refurbished Anycubic M3 Max, which is similar build volume to the GK 3. The Uniformation style closed loop resin pump system wd be so nice, it's a pain handling that much resin and any drops or slips are potentially disastrous lol
I went ahead and bought an older GK2 as my old Mono S finally kicked the bucket and I didn't feel like repairing it again. You forget to mention screen size means more money to replace it as well. yea if you already have a GK2 there's not much point to getting the 3 unless you really need that extra space but you can probably sell your GK2 to soften the blow. Meanwhile I'm using it to upgrade from my Mars 2 and realistically after that GK3 I won't need to upgrade for years because I don't see the tech evolving more than that. A tilting vat would be nice but after that I don't see what they can add.
I'm with your Mark I'm not going to say that I'll never buy one but I hear there are other printers coming up soon which may offer better value but I can't say much more about that at this time it's such a fluid market at the moment
I print in 1/4 scale and to not have to cut stl files in order to be able to print them makes sense. Of course there are some great sculpts out there but very few people that can actually make organic cuts in their models in the proper places which makes painting a nightmare.
@@theVariedLife Even with a purge feature, in order to thoroughly clean a resin pump you will have to run a cleaning solution through it. Now to what frequency this needs to be done or recommend it still should factor into the use and operation of this machine.
You know, I have an Anycubic M5 standard and a Elegoo 3 Ultra. I'm pretty happy with those. I would rather spend that money on a larger Bambu or Elegoo core xy printer that's coming in the next few months.
I definitely think there's a place in our hobby for both kinds of printer I do my base is etc on an FDM and I wouldn't want to do it on raising I'm quite happy with the quality for bases etc
@@greedy3d480 I did that to start with. Bases are tricky to print i resin sometimes. But then I started to really enjoy FDM especially with multi color. I still use resin for my paint projects. FDM will never match the print quality of a resin printer.
No resin printer at the moment (a couple of FDM's). Would you purchase the GK3 Ultra or HeyGears UltraCraft Reflex, assuming price wasn't an issue? For context, I probably won't be printing giant stuff, I can do that on my FDM printers.
I guess all I can say is when I do a resin print I go to the hey gears because the quality is much better I've got a link to save you $200 and get you some free resin it's in the video I'm not telling you this because I make commision from it it's genuinely what I believe. It's nowhere near as big as the gk 3 Ultra but the slicer and the ease of use is second to none
@@greedy3d480Yeah, that’s the way I was leaning. Seems like the ease of use king at the moment, not to mention the print quality. Have you played with the Pulsing Release Module at all? I like the idea of smaller supports, but I expect the extra noise would drive me crazy.
@RogerEberhart I've not got that on mine have considered it though I recently did a video with the high gears and some elegoo racing don't know if you've seen that the quality is absolutely bloody amazing without the pulsing unit
@@greedy3d480I think I’ve watched it. Would be nice if they offered a refillable resin bottle, like the GK3, but I doubt they will. Probably don’t want the headache of adding customizable resin profiles in their software.
Same for me it was also Mono 7 vs saturn 4 ultra, there are almost no videos on it, I say if you can wait for the pre order and shipment time then buy Saturn and if you want a printer now then buy Mono 7
still over a day left for the super early bird deal and its not a £1000 its $1099 to the UK which works out to £852. Still a lot for a printer but thats almost as much as an M3 Max for a much better build quality.
@@greedy3d480 No problem - I had issues with my CC - They sent me a new one and all my Patreon and subs expired. So wanted to send my support this way till i get all my ducks in a row
Disagree totally, gk3 is a large gk2 as we've seen so far so no reason to be worried about early problems. The price is totally fair to me, I own a M3 max I paid more than that for far less functions. The only thing to consider is " do you need that volume ? If you don't, stick with a Saturn size printer. If you do, it is the best option right now with the Jupiter SE (which is a 2 years old printer, half the definition, no option at all)...

Are you a time traveller now Greedy lol Fully agree with you on your thoughts, first gen machines are always risky, especially at those kind of prices and not when the upgrades from the previous model to the new one are few and far between. I find your reasons on the failure of a print unhelpful… go get a mars printer if you want to super minimalist failure but this step up in size doesn’t warrant that comparison
Imho money means a lot to people, resin isn't cheap it's definitely a factor you want to go larger that's absolutely fine but you do it at a cost if you can afford that cost then you are a lucky man. Meanwhile I'm using it to upgrade from my Mars 2 and realistically after that GK3 I won't need to upgrade for years because I don't see the tech evolving more than that. A tilting vat would be nice but after that I don't see what they can add.
If needing big stuff I would turn to an FDM printer, I have A Saturn 4 ultra on preorder, to me it makes far more sense just on the price difference
I went with the Bambu A1 fdm for printing big bases, I'll see how the GK3 goes once it's been reviewed properly
I'm with your Mark I'm not going to say that I'll never buy one but I hear there are other printers coming up soon which may offer better value but I can't say much more about that at this time it's such a fluid market at the moment
Just grabbed a GK2 at $649 with a prime day special and looking forward to printing with it
I print in 1/4 scale and to not have to cut stl files in order to be able to print them makes sense. Of course there are some great sculpts out there but very few people that can actually make organic cuts in their models in the proper places which makes painting a nightmare.
If you make large models i get why you want one
@@greedy3d480 Lol, that doesn't mean I can afford one..... Yikes.
Lol I hear that brother😁
The resin pump is another point of failure on the GK3. To clean the resin pump is going to be very time and labor intensive.
I thought the same thing but it looks to be a great system that has a purge feature so its not labor intensive.
I don't really like resin pumps to be honest I like the one on the hey gears because it literally is just gravity fed
You can use any of their bottles as refillable bottles the lids actually on screw and you can top them up I've done it a few times
I would love to buy one but i’m saving for cnc at the moment but for sure i’ll buy gk3
i was leaning toward the mono 7 for my first resin maybe the saturn 4 ultra?
Same for me it was also Mono 7 vs saturn 4 ultra, there are almost no videos on it, I say if you can wait for the pre order and shipment time then buy Saturn and if you want a printer now then buy Mono 7
@@Veefan3 waiting until around September before I buy hopefully more reviews will be out and long use reliability
still over a day left for the super early bird deal and its not a £1000 its $1099 to the UK which works out to £852. Still a lot for a printer but thats almost as much as an M3 Max for a much better build quality.
But that price is going up after the next day or so it's a great price at the moment but it's certainly won't stay there
Thanks!
That is so kind thank you
@@greedy3d480 No problem - I had issues with my CC - They sent me a new one and all my Patreon and subs expired.
I bought 2. I do alot of printing.
And u do a lot of spending lol hope you enjoy them
@@greedy3d480 Gotta spend money to make money.
July 2023? Are you a time traveller now Greedy lol Fully agree with you on your thoughts, first gen machines are always risky, especially at those kind of prices and not when the upgrades from the previous model to the new one are few and far between. Best save your pennies for some awesome stls to print instead :-)
Yes, that "July 2023" thing made me rewind the video to listen to that opening passage again, lol.
Easy guy.... Uniformation is going to see this video and they will accept it as a challenge and send you a GK3 to entice a change of thought. XD
Lol...fingers crossed eh
so there not sending you a free one...Is what you should have said
That's it...you've worked it out 🙄
I find your reasons on the failure of a print unhelpful… go get a mars printer if you want to super minimalist failure but this step up in size doesn’t warrant that comparison
Imho money means a lot to people, resin isn't cheap it's definitely a factor you want to go larger that's absolutely fine but you do it at a cost if you can afford that cost then you are a lucky man. My point is this if you've got a gk2 and you don't want to print large prints then don't get a gk3 simple as that really
I’m guessing you won’t be getting this in July 2023 because it’s July 2024 😅
Eh
0:07. Just giving you a hard time. Video was good
I’ve bought one , my first printer and I wanted the best quality I could afford , I’ve always found buy quality and you normally don’t regret it
Absolutely agree biy cheap you buy twice
@@todthyne1656 I bought one too. I also already own a gktwo and it's definitely the best sla printer I've owned by a long shot. If this gk3 is anything like the gktwo you definitely won't regret it!
This is not meant to be "first" printer. :)
@@cedricg.9260tbh it’s meant to be what I want it to be , I don’t see any need to purchase “beginner printers “ because that’s what other people expect
Your opinion , not one I agree with
I’m not getting one because 90% of what I paint is 32mm. 😂
👍
I don't know anybody that can afford these thousand dollar printers. Maybe I'm just surfing that low on the poverty bracket
3D printers are starting to edge up in price arnt they mate - they are getting out of reach of a lot os us - having a GK2 I cant warrent spenfing over 1K on what is essentially a bigger GK2
LOL $1000 is the price the FOMO price there is no $1400, bases should be printed on an FDM printer 99% of the time
Eh
It will be 1400 at least for some time, though no doubt drop later. Thank you for talking me out of buying it until I have more space though 😅
I'm pretty stoked that the GK3 Ultra came out just as I was deciding on my first 3D printer. Great timing for me, and the pre-order discount made it a no-brainer vs the GK2.
Hope you enjoy it! I'm sure it'll be a great 1st printer welcome to the hobby
@@adamh8876 I'm kind of in the same boat. I started on a tiny Anycubic Photon Mono 2 to get familiarized with resin printing, and it served that purpose well for that price point. I always knew though that I would eventually want to get something bigger and the timing was just right for the amount of printer you're getting from the GK3 Ultra for the super early bird price.
