Do you know what this means? Elias remembered and learned from Martin's fire trick. That's why he was so comfortable making that bet with Peter Lucas cause he knew Peter would pick Martin (he lost his mom, his closest friends, and his true love was in a coma). None of the girls were an option because they all had someone to cling to so Martin made the perfect bait but Elias knew that at the end of the day Martin would always choose Jon over anything he could never be truly part of the Lonely when he had Jon to cling to. Elias knows better to never underestimate Martin again. The moment Jon came back Elias won the bet.

YES! I noticed too! It actually comes up constantly at the second to the last episode of every season. It took me a while to find it but the pattern is evidently there. S1 MAG 39 - before being replaced by the Not!Them, you can hear Sasha on tape shouting helplessly at them, "I See You! Show yourself!" and this being repeated over and over in echoes until the Not!Sasha successfully replaces her. S2 MAG 79 - When Jon is gathering evidence against the Not!Them and finally listens to Sasha's tape he says, "and now... I See You", and clicks off. S3 MAG 119 - During the Unknowing, before telling Nikola Orsinov about her life, he says in faint recognition "I See You..." S4 MAG 159 - and finally we have Jon's "Martin, what do you see?" and Martin's "I See You" moment. AUGH ITS JUST SO GOOD HOW WELL-WRITTEN THIS SHOW IS. I am too monkey-brained to rat out a good analysis on the meaning behind "I See You" other than it relates to the whole Beholding™ business, that it was intentionally written in by no other than Jonny, and there is no way I can decipher any of it's thematic meanings further. However I do have one take on why it's reiterated constantly in this way and why. Every time it's used in these episodes, the second-to-the-last ones, it's a sort of realization or epiphany for the characters. The first was Sasha realizing what she was facing, next is Jon coming to the conclusion of what he needs to do to defeat the Not!Them, Jon Knowing about Nikola Orsinov's creation, finally Martin knowing he wasn't alone anymore. Idk at least that's my take but either way WOW what an amazing way of making the audience unconsciously realize a theme using good old repetition of symbolism. I love this show.
Jon and Martin are the best slow burn romance I've ever seen regarding main characters of a non-romantinc genre and I could say so many things about them but I can sense it would mostly be me babbling and crying. So, I'm just going to sit back and scream into my hands.

This whole time I’ve been imagining the Tape Recorders as some sort of vintage really big and very clunky type thing, so I kind of just assumed whenever they brought one along they either put it In a backpack or carried it awkwardly in their arms… I realize now that they probably just have the handheld portable ones… it makes the entire story make… a lot more sense.
I thought the exact same thing at first. I was imagining those recorders that turn big spools of exposed magnetic tape, not cassettes. No one ever referred to them as cassette tapes, so I never made the connection.
Actually, on relistening, one thing that strikes me is that this really doesn't feel like Peter speaking. Peter has his own way of talking, and this... isn't it. I really get that feeling of Jon (by way of the Eye) pulling out his story from him.
I think it's partly true. Peter's natural intonation is of a removed and reserved nature. Never giving too much up. So this is Peter in pain, spilling his guts to Jon, passive aggressively grimacing probably through the whole ordeal.
I noticed that too. He almost sounds like he's reading from a script. He seems to het more horse as he goes, so maybe he's still trying to fight against Jon?

The voice acting in this episode is INCREDIBLE. Not just the action parts, but Peter's voice as he's giving his statement. As it slowly gets more scratchy and agitated because he never talks to people for long periods of time so his voice is disused. Sooooo good.

While you can't really draw a circle of the powers, I would say that the spider is also very close to the eye. The eye seeks knowledge while the spider manipulates which can be done in many ways be it threats of violence or addiction but blackmail and just knowing what string to pull are both forms of knowledge

So Martin's feelings for Jon derailed Peter's plan because when Jon woke up, he had a reason to go on. And Jon then basically saves him from the Lonely with the power of love, uh. What a romantic horror podcast, it's fitting I'm listening to it on pride month, hehe
Peter never inspired hatred in me quite like Elias did as a villain, but watching Jon literally EAT his statement was so cathartic that it had me cheering by the end of it lmao
I accidentally put on a Ghibli lofi track as Peter began giving his statement and I swear to god it changed the tone so drastically I almost fainted. He sounds like an audiobook of someone's memoir, with fond reminiscence.
11:40 Peter’s voice breaking at the mention of the man smiling at him got me thinking…maybe he never liked being alone, but since it’s how his life is he just adapted to it by ‘believing’ he liked it. Hot take: Peter *enjoyed* venting his life story, once he got going. He’s still a bit human, because there’s simply nothing more human than being lonely. This isn’t the spiral or the stranger: I’d guess he has to be more human than most avatars for that to even happen. Just a theory of course, but it seems logical to me. And if the Lonely needs its avatars a bit “human,” however monstrous, than I think Peter was just human enough to enjoy talking in spite of himself, after being unheard and unseen for his whole life. I think, in spite of himself, Peter felt good venting his story once it was out of his hands. You can hear his voice just rolling along. I actually came to TMA because I kept getting animatics reccomended to me, and a few of them are just filed with shippers and I thought "oh rad this looks interesting". Definitely wasn't what I expected and at one point I was like "oh alright, that was just a fan ship nbd still a fantastic show" and now, _now_ I see.
Martin's "I see you, Jon" being an expression of love is an ironic reflection of John "seeing" others and that being the thing that made him a monster, which is the reason others were turning on him and isolating him. Jon often can't help but hurt people by "seeing" them. Most people refuse to look past that and see the person still left inside, behind his actions. But Martin still very much sees the person Jon really is, the person he still is.
GUYS OMG!! I’m sure someone else has noticed but in the first season episode 13, Alone, which is the episode where the woman’s fiancé dies and she attends the funeral with the strange and silent family and ends up lost in a graveyard... her fiancé‘s name was Evan Lukas!!!!
Yeah!! I'm relistening now and the sheer quantity of little clues and links that were dropped right off the bat is just incredible. I'm catching far more on this second listening and I freaking love it
Like I think most people may have not made the exact relationship between Peter and Evan being brothers. But, it was kinda obvious from the get go. I think in that same episode Jon says something along the lines of "I wanted to do further digging but Elias told me to drop it because the Lukas family funds the institute". So the writer already established the Lukas family as a major player in the paranormal world even back then, I think I always had a hunch he was Peter's brother, given Peter's age. But yeah. What I find really funny, in a meta sort of way, is that Episode 13, probably the first direct reference to The Lonely, and definitely the first reference to the Lukas family, is the first episode when Jon is not alone in the recording, it's the first time we hear another voice, that of the fiancee.
I'm *such* a Lonely avatar. But not without books and the internet, that's too much. Due to the sound of the waves I now imagine the Lonely as the deepest dream level in Inception. It's a very lonely place.

This whole time I’ve been imagining the Tape Recorders as some sort of vintage really big and very clunky type thing, so I kind of just assumed whenever they brought one along they either put it In a backpack or carried it awkwardly in their arms…
I realize now that they probably just have the handheld portable ones… it makes the entire story make… a lot more sense.
I thought the exact same thing at first. I was imagining those recorders that turn big spools of exposed magnetic tape, not cassettes. No one ever referred to them as cassette tapes, so I never made the connection.

Actually, on relistening, one thing that strikes me is that this really doesn't feel like Peter speaking. Peter has his own way of talking, and this... isn't it. I really get that feeling of Jon (by way of the Eye) pulling out his story from him.
I think it's partly true. Peter's natural intonation is of a removed and reserved nature. Never giving too much up. So this is Peter in pain, spilling his guts to Jon, passive aggressively grimacing probably through the whole ordeal.
I noticed that too. He almost sounds like he's reading from a script. He seems to het more horse as he goes, so maybe he's still trying to fight against Jon?

The voice acting in this episode is INCREDIBLE. Not just the action parts, but Peter's voice as he's giving his statement. As it slowly gets more scratchy and agitated because he never talks to people for long periods of time so his voice is disused. Sooooo good.
Am I the only one who imagined Jon taking Martin's hand to lead him out of there or...? Cause, if that was me I would be terrified that if I just walked in front, I'll turn around only to see that we got separated

While you can't really draw a circle of the powers, I would say that the spider is also very close to the eye. The eye seeks knowledge while the spider manipulates which can be done in many ways be it threats of violence or addiction but blackmail and just knowing what string to pull are both forms of knowledge

So Martin's feelings for Jon derailed Peter's plan because when Jon woke up, he had a reason to go on. And Jon then basically saves him from the Lonely with the power of love, uh.

I accidentally put on a Ghibli lofi track as Peter began giving his statement and I swear to god it changed the tone so drastically I almost fainted. He sounds like an audiobook of someone's memoir, with fond reminiscence.
11:40 Peter’s voice breaking at the mention of the man smiling at him got me thinking…maybe he never liked being alone, but since it’s how his life is he just adapted to it by ‘believing’ he liked it. When someone finally gave him the tiniest of affection he was overwhelmed, and on reflex wanted to get back to what’s familiar to him; hence he sent him away. I’ll miss this big jerk :/

The roughness in Peter's voice as he talks...He doesn't want to talk, and he's _not_ used to talking for this long.
Hot take: Peter *enjoyed* venting his life story, once he got going. He’s still a bit human, because there’s simply nothing more human than being lonely. This isn’t the spiral or the stranger: I’d guess he has to be more human than most avatars for that to even happen. Just a theory of course, but it seems logical to me. And if the Lonely needs its avatars a bit “human,” however monstrous, than I think Peter was just human enough to enjoy talking in spite of himself, after being unheard and unseen for his whole life. I think, in spite of himself, Peter felt good venting his story once it was out of his hands. You can hear his voice just rolling along. And in spite of the guy being a total jerk, that makes me feel kinda good inside.
(I know this almost certainly wasn’t the author or voice actor’s intention. But also, Tim is on a kayaking trip, so who needs canon?)

I actually came to TMA because I kept getting animatics reccomended to me, and a few of them are just filed with shippers and I thought "oh rad this looks interesting". Definitely wasn't what I expected and at one point I was like "oh alright, that was just a fan ship nbd still a fantastic show" and now, _now_ I see.

Martin's "I see you, Jon" being an expression of love is an ironic reflection of John "seeing" others and that being the thing that made him a monster, which is the reason others were turning on him and isolating him. Jon often can't help but hurt people by "seeing" them. Most people refuse to look past that and see the person still left inside, behind his actions. But Martin still very much sees the person Jon really is, the person he still is.
GUYS OMG!! I’m sure someone else has noticed but in the first season episode 13, Alone, which is the episode where the woman’s fiancé dies and she attends the funeral with the strange and silent family and ends up lost in a graveyard... her fiancé‘s name was Evan Lukas!!!!
Yeah!! I'm relistening now and the sheer quantity of little clues and links that were dropped right off the bat is just incredible. I'm catching far more on this second listening and I freaking love it
Like I think most people may have not made the exact relationship between Peter and Evan being brothers. But, it was kinda obvious from the get go. I think in that same episode Jon says something along the lines of "I wanted to do further digging but Elias told me to drop it because the Lukas family funds the institute". So the writer already established the Lukas family as a major player in the paranormal world even back then, I think I always had a hunch he was Peter's brother, given Peter's age. But yeah.
What I find really funny, in a meta sort of way, is that Episode 13, probably the first direct reference to The Lonely, and definitely the first reference to the Lukas family, is the first episode when Jon is not alone in the recording, it's the first time we hear another voice, that of the fiancee.

I adore when jon uses his abilities. He is usually a doormat whos always afraid, but when the power kicks in, i get a little nervous myself. I love his character so much. Great writing and the soune effects are phenomenal
