Unfortunately, guitarist Mikio Fujioka, on the left, passed away in 2018 due to an accident during an astronomical observation. This was Mikio's last performance as KAMI-BAND! Rest in peace wonderful guitarist Mikio Fujioka🎸
Good reaction. 'No Rain, No Rainbow' is a power ballad in the same sort of style as was popular in the 80s. It is even inspired by and pays homage to X Japan's classic 'Endless Rain'. Su wasn't entirely happy with her first performance in 2013, she felt she was concentrating so much on getting the lyrics right and hitting the notes that she wasn't understanding or expressing the emotion the song deserved, so she didn't feel ready to record it for the first album (she was 15 and contrary to what fans of other bands might say, she already clearly had some say in what they were doing). Only when she saw people in the audience crying at another performance (which must have been Budokan Black Night in 2014) did she realise her voice could effect people emotionally ... she recorded it for the second album. The Legend S performances are incredible, they pulled all the stops out for Su's 20th birthday in her home town of Hiroshima with live piano and strings on stage for the first (only?) time ... and the video editor did a good thing - it can be no coincidence that as Su sings the line "We shall never meet again, but I want to not forget you for ever" that the camera focuses briefly on Mikio Fujioka (RIP).
Babymetal almost never provide official subtitles for the songs. Most of the time its fans that have to do the translations. No Rain No Rainbow is a beautiful power ballad inspired by Endless Rain by X Japan that really showcases Su-metal's vocal expressiveness. Sadly, It has only been performed live seven times.
In my opinion, subtitles distracts from the incredible performance. I prefer to check out a good translation later. The style is called power ballad. And when I listen to Scorpions (for example) I wouldn't place them into any anime, and I won't do the same with this one for the same reason... just because they sing in Japanese (I consider it a stereotype). 🫤 Also, Suzuka used to sing songs for an anime with her former girl group... when she was 10 years old. I know you like animes and such, but when you guys comment that, I see it as a step back. And she's not going to do that. This is a beautiful song and even better live performance. "Legend S - Baptism XX" were very special two back to back concerts in Hiroshima, Su's hometown, to celebrate her 20th birthday on December 2017. The intro of this song in these concerts was a kamishibai ("paper play" = animated storytelling) narrating the consequences for the population of the nuclear blasts occurred in 1945. This was the first time they performed without Yui (not present due to ongoing and undisclosed health issues) and the last time Mikio (Kami Band's lead guitarist who played the solo in this video) performed with BABYMETAL, since he untimely passed away few weeks later due to the injuries caused by an unfortunate accident while stargazing). So, all these emotions are added to the already sad lyrics. The song is a tribute to X-Japan's "Endless Rain" and debuted back in 2013 but Su (being just 15 at the time) wasn't happy with her performance because she was more focused on hitting the correct notes than on conveying the emotions. To the point they didn't include it on their first album in 2014 and only played it three times till this concert date in December 2017. She finally nailed it here but the song is still a rarity. 🤘🦊
I have listened to BABYMETAL every day for the last seven years, and I have yet to make it through this song without tearing up. I love a good ballad, so it makes me very happy that they are delivering in that department as well.
Oops? :) I've asked it! This is my favourite NRNR performance! :) There is a subtitled version. I miss Mikio so much... and the Eastern Kami as well! Some story about the entire Legend S show. - First without Yui - Last with Mikio (Orange guitar that was soloing) - Su and Moa thought of cancelling this because of Yui's health issues, but decided to push through. This was in Hiroshima, Su's hometown for her 20th birthday. Both her grandparents are Hiroshima survivors. It is a continuation to X Japan - Endless Rain from 1989.
How can 1 person so young put so much emotion and passion in a song that alot others can't. You feel the pain and sorrow from her voice her expression. Why she is queen
Amazing as always, Su-metal absolutely poured her heart out on this one. And, it's one of the only actual "ballads" officially, albeit a rock ballad. Her other solos are similar in style vocally but with the Kami Band going Mach 3 🤣. Look forward to more! 🤘🦊
This is the best version to enjoy this song. Cool you found the way to prevent being blocked since it's usually one of the clip heavily blocked. See you next time 🦊🤘🔥
⚡ / ☂ 🌈 There are a lot of reasons Su might have been emotional at these shows. At the two 'LEGEND S - BAPTISM XX' concerts in early December of 2017, Su was about to turn 20 years old, the traditional age of majority (adulthood) in Japan. These are the only times she's performed with BABYMETAL in her home prefecture of Hiroshima. Yui was supposed to perform at this concert, but was unable to appear because of unspecified health reasons. The introduction just before this song refers to the bombing of Hiroshima during the Second World War. This intro was added for these shows. That doesn't mean the song was originally written to be about those events, just that they were drawing a connection for these two special concerts in Hiroshima. The last line of this song is: "An endless rain fills my heart, forever." This is a reference to X-Japan's song 'Endless Rain'. Although the actual music reminds me more of the X-Japan song 'Silent Jealousy'. 'No Rain, No Rainbow' is a very rare BABYMETAL song. It's been performed only seven times since its debut in 2013. And never outside of Japan. As far as the lyrics are concerned, this is what Su-metal had to say a few years ago: "Sure! 'No Rain, No Rainbow' might be the least metal song of our repertoire and it’s been with us for three or four years now. This song is a total fan favourite though. You can interpret it in a romantic way but we like to think about it in a more open way. It is about simple human feelings of love and loss and how the value of certain things we have in life is only perceived in dark moments. At the beginning, we admit we couldn’t completely understand the deep meaning of this song. But this song has helped us develop not only Su-metal's vocal techniques, but also our way to express our emotions through this song the more we performed it."
In the first 2 albums, there are 2 songs which are only SU-METAL, and 2 songs which are only MOAMETAL and YUIMETAL. These songs were used to allow for a rest during the shows. SU-METAL would rest while MOAMETAL and YUIMETAL would perform as Black Baby Metal (the most cutest death metal duo you'll ever see). MOAMETAL and YUIMETAL would rest while SU-METAL would perform solo songs. This song breaks my heart every time. Specially this version. It was the first show without YUIMETAL, and the last show with guitarist Mikio Fujioka.
I'm a huge 80s music fan, so this is my favorite Babymetal song. I think it's on my top-10 list of songs all-time. (All the others are from the 1980s or early 1990s.)
No Rain No Rainbow at the MM legend concert is a meaningful concert for me... because many memories were created at this concert... firstly this is a concert that coincides with Su Metal's birthday, secondly it is the first time BabyMetal without Yui Metal, thirdly this is was guitarist Mikio Fujioka's last concert before his death, and the last stage which I think was the most magnificent after Tokyo Dome 2016...
very heartfelt song. think my favorite most touching verse i s: We shall never meet again, but I want not to forget you forever. If the dream continues, I wish I'll never wake up from it.
The saying goes if you go to uncharted territory you go into a “rabbit hole” right? Since the lore around BM centers around foxes; there’s your explanation. I totally agree. Moa was very well practiced. Su was on another plane of existence.
