（豪の）ケアンズ育ちです。うちにもにわとり12羽がいて、エサは同じように食べ残し等に庭が広かったため、檻からだして、虫とか食べたりしてた。理想の生活ですね。

Thanks for sharing this interview. It's very informative. So, to understand this correctly... This man and his wife have been forced into compulsory volunteer service by the district council and they don't get paid for the work they do?? Is this correct?
The council should at least be providing him with all of the equipment he needs like diggers, wood chippers, electric fences, netting, etc..
Laying hens are only good for the first three years because they all have a limited amount of eggs in them. Eventually you'll have to cull the old hens because they'll just use up your resources.
The eggshells need to be saoked in vinegar first before you feed them back to the chickens (vinegar breaks the calcium down into useable available form). You can use a diluted spray on the base of your tomato 🍅 plants .
