We purchased a Boykin pup a year ago. I've had 3 Brits - great dogs. Our Boykin, Arlo is just a joy. I don't hunt anymore, but he is a great companion and house dog. Love him!
I've wanted one since I was 14 years old after my first duck hunt. I did tons of research and stumbled across these little brown dogs. 10 years later, here I am, and I finally just picked on up after getting out of college. Can't wait to get in the field next season!
I love this dog breed, just the right size and temperament.Thank you for sharing,I am moving to Nebraska soon and this would be a perfect companion for me.
The Boykin Spaniel is extremely adaptable! They Love Water(swimming),I'm sure you won't go wrong with a Boykin Spaniel! Best of Luck with your Quest! J.
I used to use PAM on my Brits before we hit the field. It worked great. After 3 Brits (last was a rescue), we are getting a Boykin in mid-March. I don't hunt anymore, so we're looking for a companion dog and they come highly recommended. Great video. Thanks.
I have a Boykin spaniel named dipper or dippy he literally scratches my car window cus he has so much energy they are good with hunting fishing etc obedient and good for the family
Everyone I have spoken with owners and Veterinarians state they are very energetic. They never get tired and need a job. You never stated WHO should own a Boykin. It's 90% owner....
Well I can say that my Boykin is 3 now and although he is very athletic and exactly 39.5 lbs he sleeps a lot these days lol. They definitely need their exercise but to say they “never” get tired is simply not true. I find mine to be much more relaxed than two labs I had prior. Thanks for the comment!
Warren Richey - Cavern Kennels hey man I didn’t say anything that wasn’t true. You are the first breeder I’ve met that is so genuinely concerned about every pup you have. I couldn’t be happier with having the privilege to buy one of your pups! And I truly mean that!
Beautiful puppy. It has a lot of qualities in it. But check out the French Brittany spaniel. I've owned one for the last 11 years. She was five months old she had more honey drive an hour than I've seen in any dog in my life. I'm not just saying that because I want one. She doesn't retrieve or swim like yours, but she'll run years over in a field.
I have 2 Boykins and if my experience is anything like normal, don’t worry about him being afraid of geese. Since day one living on the lake, it has been Gus and Rosie’s job (self-appointed but their job) to ensure that there are no geese anywhere to be found. Also, be aware that Boykins can be a little obsessive about finishing a task. Gus has locked on to a deer & we have been in pursuit halfway across hell and Hancock County before he would consider giving up the chase. That was early on in training but be aware of the tendency. I guess what my long winded talk is trying to get to is if you give your Boykin a job, they intend to do it and they ain’t giving up until it’s done. Enjoy your new partner. I honestly believe my guys have added 20 years to my life. Stay safe, healthy, and have a good one.
Jenny, my breeder is 100% fully dna checked and all testing complete. His name is Warren Richey. He does have a waiting list but he can be contacted at 931-272-1198 Hope that helps!

I've got 4.5 years until I can get a Boykin. Unfortunately my parents said I couldn't get a hunting dog until I graduate college. Which sucks because I'm going to have to duck hunt without a dog for 4 years. I was supposed to get one after our westie passed away (she was 15 she died of old age) but they straight up lied. Supposedly it's because our lab (he is not trained to hunt) sheds too much and they don't want more hair in the house. Thats BS. Boykins she very little to none.
I hear there are many good trainers that know Boykin Spaniels but I trained Pete myself. He’s a very intelligent dog that want to make me happy so he learned really fast.
@@sfnomad2337, really cool. I've been researching the breed for a while. I keep going back and forth between a boykin or a Pudelpointer. Love the size of the boykin. Love the versatility and low/no shed of the pudelpointer. I do a lot of different hunting but find myself in the dove field during that season and in a duck blind about 20x per season. Would be great to see how Pete progresses and see him hunt. Hope you'll be able to share some vids of that later on.
@@strixoutdoors definitely will have more. He has been an awesome dog and has traveled the country. Everyone loves him and thinks he’s beautiful. We are going to be in North Dakota duck hunting all October. So expect more to come. I live the boykins. They just wanna please, don’t shed nearly as much as a lab and are the perfect size. Pete’s 39 lbs as of a week ago.

Susie is my boykin girl...and love her like no other. They are loving, loyal, smart, and great hunters. And I do love all dogs
I've had "BOYKIN SPANIELS" since I was 13 years old and, I'm on my 9th one, and I'm 63 years old now! Go "LBD'S"!!
My rescue dog is part boykin, i don't hunt but he does. He brings me turtles nearly everyday. 😁 love him!
That’s too funny!
Our Maggie is three years old. Best dog ever. The most intelligent and affectionate breed ever.

Special little dogs. Smart and loving and a great companion!
My boykin is very much the same! They're so smart, and the great mix between focused on work and affectionate off work. Your pupper Pete is adorable.
Thanks! I seriously wouldn’t trade him for the world!

I do enjoy him and he’s one of the best and happiest dogs I’ve ever owned.

I think the best family dog ever.
Agreed 😁
Great idea to use detangler to prevent burrs from sticking!
We are getting one in two months and are so excited! We can’t wait to go hunting with our buddy! Thanks for sharing your video!

Where are you getting your Boykin from? I’m looking for one near Idaho.

Quick question, are they good at recall? Dogs with big prey drives Rae known to run away
Very obedient and he doesn’t wonder far at all. I trained him to stay close for pheasant hunting so he’s always around me. 👍🏻

Well it does suck to have to wait but I’m sure it’ll be worth it. And you’re right they don’t hardly shed at all
why arent there any boykin breeders in AUSTRALIA ?! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Are you training him yourself or sending him out also? I'm curious how hard it would be to find a trainer than knows how to train a boykin.

This breed was created by crossing a male cocker spaniel with a female tiger. Obviously.
Very accurate!😂
