  • This video is to discuss what the application process is like for the Air Force's Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP). I just finished going through the application process myself as a future Physician Assistant. This video discusses what HPSP is in regards to PA's, and what steps there are to apply.

    Thank you so much Andrea!! You've provided a wealth of info on this topic, when there's really not much around.

    Thank you so much for posting this- I got accepted into PA school that starts this August and I am super interested in doing HPSP with either the Air Force or the Navy. I am having such a hard time finding ways to get this process started and get my questions answered! Ive reached out to my local recruiter but they are taking forrver just to get back to me and Im wondering if I am starting this process on time! I want to meet with them and get a better idea of this whole path and the ins and outs. What made you choose air force?

      I apologize for such a delayed response. I had heard a lot of good things about the Air Force from friends and people who had been in the military. The Air Force HPSP also just seemed to have the perfect timeline and perks that I was looking for.

    Are you going to make another video now that you have received the scholarship?

    This is great information. I saw a similar video and a comment saying that they're not accepting HPSP for PA at the moment? I hope that is not true.

      I am not sure, I have not heard this. My advice would be to reach out to a recrutor to find out for sure.

    Did you end up being awarded the scholarship?

    Thank you for this video. Do you know if you are eligible for loan forgiveness/repayment for the semesters that you are waiting to hear back if you are already a PA-S1?

      Hi, so they did end up reimbursing me for the semester that I had paid for prior to my scholarship kicking in. It took some time though.

    In addition the stipend, books & tuition..do they provide housing benefits (BAH)?

    • @andrealarocque8186
      @andrealarocque8186  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but I believe it is calculated differently for everyone based on your household situation and where you live etc.

    is it true that the VA choses where you work after you become a PA-C and complete officer training school?
    if so, how much say do
    you get in this? and are you able to stay at one base hospital for the entire equivalent duration of how long you were in PA school?
    (asking in regards to considering the navy branch)🙂

      Unfortunately, im not 100%. To my knowlege, PAs are typically placed in a primary care setting for their first few years of service. Then after that they can have access to more opportunities. As far as location, again im not 100% certain but I believe you can pick a "region" of the US where you want to go. So like Mid-west, West coast, East coast etc.

    If I have a master's degree, am I still eligible for HPSP for PA?

    • @andrealarocque8186
      @andrealarocque8186  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not sure, but my assumtion is yes. Regardless of what prior degrees you have, if you are pursueing a new career as a PA or any other health profession that the scholarship applys to, then HPSP would pay for that degree (PA School).

    I just talked to a army health recruiter he told me PA’s couldn’t get the HPSP but online it says I can

      You could try finding a different recruiter, or try a different military branch. I beleive Navy also has a similar program.

      I am not 100% certain. I reccommend reaching out to an Air Force recrutor to find out.

    What happens if you get accepted to Pa school but don’t get the scholarship?

    • @andrealarocque8186
      @andrealarocque8186  ปีที่แล้ว

      Without the scholarship, you would pay for PA school like everyone else... Federal student loans and Grad Plus loans.

      @@jalensmith4652 No, they will not process your application until you have been accepted into a PA program.

    If I am applying to start school in August of 2025, do I need to apply before October 2024 or October 2025?
    Follow-Up Question for if I need to apply before October 2024:
    One of the PA schools I’m applying to does rolling admissions; however, the other four do not start sending out interview invites until October and acceptances until November. If I get accepted into the rolling admissions one before October, am I required to attend that school? Or, if I am accepted HPSP, can I choose attend a different university when my post-October acceptances come in?
