In this series I've been restoring one of my father's favorite dozers. The Caterpillar D6D is still a popular piece of equipment. I like making machines look nice. I also like fixing, fabricating and painting. Thank you for following along!

It's Great when you and you Dad walk though the woods looking at old Camps, I wish i could hang out with my Dad God Rest his soul. i sure do miss him and cherished all the Time him and i spent together..

Put many hour on a D6c for many years, the company had at lese 8 D6c , majority had rippers on the back, made it a well balanced tractor. Hard working machine.
It will be great to see your Dad pushing snow and opening up the logging roads in it again.

Looking pretty good there all yellered up. The trick to putting in a window is ...put the rubber on the glass and then in the outside channel of the rubber install a piece of heavy twine that you have soaked in oil. Start at the bottom and insert the twine the whole way around and end at where you started. Then put the window into the opening bottom 1st with the ends of the twine facing in. While putting pressure on the outside, pull on 1 end of the twine till the rubber flips over the edge of the steel. then work the other side of the twine. Back and forth until you have the rubber lip on the inside all the way around. I have put in many windows in equipment by myself this way.

Nice video - back to your first posts with music - flashback. Good Job on part 5 and you didn't fall off the ladder - don't stand on the top and lean way over, your too valuable to loose. Hopefully part 6 will be on Nov 4th as it will be the only to watch of any interest. Cheers and stay safe

That's what you call a 'paint rebuild'.
Grew up running dozers and track loaders. Great job of painting that nice older caterpillar. Love to see you taking the time and effort to renew that dozer. I would have more paint on me than the machine! God bless you. You have a new dedicated subscriber.

Looking might fine Dave. I think after seeing that much yellow, everything looks kinda yellow like the snow in front of my place... its been damn cold here for a little bit and my dog of a whole month now has figured out that this place is a hellava lot nicer than dog jail (pound). He ate fifty pounds of dog food the first month and I just kept his bowl full and give him a lot of attention... kinda like that old cat has been getting from you.... you got home and coughed a couple of times an spit yellow balls of paint then blow the snazel and it shoots that paint out that would of finished the job on the dash around the gauges... great job
Looking good, at least now it's bright yellow you' be able to see it a bit easier when you forget where you parked it, those bolts were small and hard to find L.O.L . That yellows some good paint, it covers real well, I used to rebuild old JCB TLB's some of that yellow was just horrible to get it to cover/shine without running with one good coat. Don't worry about the dents it's a working dozer that got them honestly, not a show queen that gets trailered around and looks good for the public.
It's a shame the borders close for us here in Canada I'd bring you my 4wd tractor that needs painting, After years of not painting tractors and TLB's I just can't get into the prep, I tried sanding down one of the fenders the last owner took off years before I got it. That was 6 weeks ago, when I figured it was a good idea at the time , yeah that went well L.O.L. Thanks for the video, Take care.

Depends how wide the rubbers are them Cat are normally 3/4 if you use a 3/16 to 1/4 " rope wrapped around the inner groove with window in slot have someone hold the glass in place remove the strip rubber V lock use vaseline every 4" as a glider for the rope as to not rip the rubber but pull the rope inside SLOWLY as it`s fitting around frame it`ll go right in then put locking strip back in with vaseline again all around rubber to fit itself , Vaseline lets the rubber fit frame without distorting it -Looks good .
We always used the rope method when installing the rear window on our pickup truck when we took the camper off. Works great!

I used to work for Sinclair Paints years ago. They made the yellow paint for Cat and the county to paint the yellow lines on the freeways. Not in gallon cans. In 55 gallon drums.
I should get paint in drums!!!
It's alot cheaper than gallon cans. Try checking Bear Paint? They might help you out.

Primer protects the metal. Top coat protects the primer.
My understanding was that enamel can be applied to bare metal.
@@davidhaley7053 If you're lucky, it will stick. The odds are better with a primer. A lot of the new paints have anticorrosive ingredients the preclude a primer.

Window install the secret is silicone spray or liquid dish soap your choice
If you got 2 guys, know how to use a long piece of baler twine or string, and one of those nice tools I lent to a guy that didn't bring it back, to put the locking beads in on some vehicle windows really helps to.
Never got to run a pretty machine. Several people always beat me to it but I paid the light bill. The green 7 in Virginee was close. It had Cat yellow accents but it was still green. If it was mine I could care less if it was pink. I had a pink Harley once. A 68 Electra glide that was a faded red. Nice pink. Sold i before I let it kill me. You could work on the Taco. It's used to hammers. GBWYall up there and the screwdriver secret is safe with me. GBWYall!

@@davidhaley7053 Faded out to the prettiest pearlish looking pink you ever saw but I was 6'2" then. Nobody said nothing. I'm 5'11" now and if anybody says anything it don't matter because I can hear them. I have furniture disease. My chest has fallen into my drawers!

Thanks. I just used about 1.5 gallons of enamel Cat yellow paint. Nothing special.
