- "The Green Mile" is a film released in 1999, based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King.
The movie tells the story set in a Louisiana state prison during the 1930s. The protagonist, Paul Edgecomb, is a prison guard responsible for executing death row inmates and serves as a spiritual pillar within the prison.
The central focus of the story is a prisoner named John Coffey. John is a physically imposing and immensely strong African American man who has been sentenced to death for the alleged murder of two young girls. However, Paul gradually discovers that John possesses miraculous healing abilities and supernatural powers.
As the story unfolds, Paul begins to doubt John's guilt and learns about his true identity and the suffering he endures. Paul and the other guards face moral and ethical dilemmas as they must decide whether to expose the truth, all while dealing with the pressures of the prison system and societal norms.
"The Green Mile" delves deep into themes of humanity, justice, forgiveness, and the way people treat one another. The film presents emotionally charged interactions and internal struggles among its characters, while also examining issues of injustice and prejudice in society.
This movie has been widely praised for its poignant storytelling, outstanding performances, and its exploration of the complexities of human nature. It encompasses profound themes and unforgettable scenes, earning its status as a classic that resonates with audiences and has been frequently referenced and quoted.
It’s not just a standout as a prison movie. For myself ,and a lot of others I know, it is one of the best movies.
Agreed 💯

The guy that played John Coffey is Michael Clark Duncan, who sadly passed away a few years ago. RIP

Well I guess that's why I never saw any of his movies

My eyes welled up and tears rolled down my cheeks as I sniffed and stifled a silent sob towards the recap's ending. But STILL so very different than when I watched the actual movie: boohooing and letting it all hang out, snots and all 😭

I'm almost 60 years old now. This ranks in the top 10 movies of my lifetime. Never seen such a beautifully complex story line. This is exactly how humanity would treat an angelic being. No understanding just judgment based on color or circumstance. I will tell ya this though. If I was one of the 4 guards, I would've quickly made up the story that wild bill told Percy he killed the girls and Percy lost his mind and shot him. I would've lied my face off to make sure that angel of a being went free.

I knew of this film , but not the plot . Having watched this recap I was crying by the end . I'm a 56 year old man , but not afraid to admit to crying.
Man, I'm 22, and I was about to cry just watching this recap, but if I watch this, my lads, we all would be crying at his execution.

I didn't watch the movie again because it will only make me cry. Now watching this recap, it put me in tears once more. Stephen King is brilliant with his works. This was far from what he usually do with the horror themes. :(
One of the best movies ever made.
Yep, together with shawshank redemption
Michael Clark Duncan was such a phenomenal actor. The Green Mile is one of his most cherished. Mesmerizing, riveting, astonishing, and heart-warming. He did such a genuine job as John Coffey. R.I.P. Michael Clark Duncan. You left behind a legacy. You'll never be forgotten.
This is so sad and beautiful ... the angel is a kind hearted giant and it was sad to see him die:(
Imagine witnessing multiple miracles from a man and still deciding to kill him. Doesn't make any sense.
John asked then to do it they told him they cab unlock the cell and let him go and he said no he wants it to end
They offered to let the man go but the guy didnt want to. He was tired, he kept saying it.
If you watched it you'd know why.
No matter how many times I watch this movie I cry every time. Rest in peace Michael Clarke Duncan, you ARE an angel now
This film is timeless and priceless 🙏

"John Coffey, like the drink... only not spelt the same". That one sentence still gets me.
he didnt mistakenly kill an angel he knew what he was doing. he even said so.
The case was closed he couldn’t save him even if he wanted to. And it saddened him greatly. He didn’t deserve to die but in those’d tymes he didn’t have a fair trial all the jury was white n prejudice against black ppl.
I don’t think he was just an angel, I think he was the son and this is Pilates story
As gut wrenching as this film is, I've probably watched it over 25 times, (reactions too). It's one of my all-time favorites!!! 😃
When I first watched the movie I was convinced it was a true life story, then I researched and discovered it wasn't. Very good story and acting.
Only Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit Christians can do this type of work. The flies represent demons and evil angel spirits.
The Holy Spirit simply commands and the healing happens. Jesus and Christians never have to kiss in order to heal.
How can you have such gift n still have a miserable life.😢
Lol that’s just illusion for he as the power doesn’t mean he would be reach

This is without a doubt one of my top 5 movies ever, even though I may have watched it 10+ times, I bawl my eyes out every single time, such a big strong exterior but cotton candy interior John Coffey had. Kudos to Stephen King and the whole cast, Michael Clarke Duncan's oscar was well deserved.
How is it possible that one actor has possibly 3 of the top ten movies ever.Tom Hanks.Castaway,Forest Gump, and the green mile.Tbh his only rivals are Denzel or Robert De Niro.
You are so right it isn't funny. Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington aren't a list celebrities...they have their own tier. They are the actors that almost always win their films a nod from the Academy. Only one I disagree with is Robert De Nero. De Nero will nail any tough guy or mob type movie but I've never liked him in anything else. Had you said Robert Duval who still holds the Guinness world record for most versatile actor in the world, then you would have been firing on all cylinders. 😉
@@robertstewart1223 I say Robert due to longevity not greatness necessarily. I kinda wanna add Morgan Freeman as well but he is not one class of Tom and Denzel.

I gotta read King’s novel now. Must be a masterpiece, rich in symbolism and metaphors.
Dude, that was a really awesome recap. Thank You!
Spoiler alert for those who haven’t seen it, It wasn’t a mistake, Paul knew John was innocent by the end and wanted to let him escape and see how far he could get, but John refused, he wanted to die despite being innocent because he was tired of feeling all the pain in the world.
brilliant cast, brilliant script, great film
R.I.P. big guy😢
I had read the book first, and then seen this movie. I gotta say, this is one of the best movies ever made. Definitely in top 15 of all time. I cried when I read the book, felt uneasy for days to come. I relived it all again with this video. It is a true depiction of how today's world would fail to understand the angel. I never saw this full movie but it came on TV once when I was little and it traumatized me because all I knew was that the black man was a nice man and that he was gonna die by electric chair, but he was so nice. I still have never seen the full movie but I know enough about it to know how it goes, plus I’ve seen the ending. what a beautiful movie. Thank u
FYI, this movie is based off Stephen King's book. Also, Shawshank Redemption, another movie that's considered one of the greatest of all time, is also based off King's book, and both movies are a very faithful reproduction of the books.
Many people know Stephen King only as a horror writer, but that is incredibly reductive. He is a master of utilizing the bizarre and grotesque to convey deeper beauty.

John wanted to die.
It's not a curse. It's just the end result of John's powers, extended life.

That was beautiful. May God give you 1 million subs.
Making reference from the movie - Racism was like chards of glass in his head (John Coffee), the hatred of men was too painful. Far worse than the electric chair. Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) did pay a price for his actions, for a long time after.
What makes this story more unbelievable is that it was written by STEPHEN KING, of all people.
