      Tone always has and always will be in the hands of the player. Just walk into a music store and listen to people play garbage like Green Day on a Friedman Deluxe, they make a $3000 amp sound like a $100 solid state practice amp with a metal zone.

    Crisp tones. Wide EQ range too. This is a super versatile, well-thought product that really shines. Love how you explained the clean tones and then demo how pedal-friendly it is. That first 4x12 IR preset you showed us was like heaven. Thanks again Shawn!

    About the same concept as the Suhr PT15 IR. Seems to sound as great and is almost only a third of the price. Downside (if I understand it correctly) is that you're limited to The Two Notes IR format, but since they sound terrific that's probably something you can live with. Also, thanks for pointing me in the direction of the Two Notes Wall of Sound plugin. Didn't know it existed.

It did not start because I did not have an internet connection. Isn´t it possible to use the Torpedo SW offline? Otherwise it can get difficult if there´s not internet connection available. Thanks much, Sascha

    Just got around to this - excellent demo and playing. Do you think as a DAW input anything would be added if used in conjunction with a Line 6 (omitting the amp and cab part of the signal chain), maybe 4 cabling? Or is it more of an alternative to the Helix as an input device? Used stand alone as an amp would you think the Helix would work well with it as an alternative to pedals?

    Probably not going to see this as it's a few years late, but how dynamic would you say this amp is? Specifically asking about more than just what people seem to refer to as "touch sensitivity", as I'm not only concerned with cleaning up from an edge of dirt sound. I'm more referring to dynamic volume output. Kinda like what you experience when playing acoustic guitar, if that makes sense.
    Cheers Shawn and thanks for an excellent demo

    Great job as usual....when you switched to the cab emulations built into the amp:
    1 - Am I hearing you playing over a track on your DAW?
    2 - In your room is the sound you hear coming out of those 2 monitors behind you? ... (since you are not wearing headphones)

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really can't decide if i want to save up and get a Synergy SNY2 or the Revv D20. Im a clean player, and very rarely use any type of saturation, but i want a nice tube amp tone and feel with a great sounding direct recording solution. The SYN2 is stereo, so with that feature alone im leaning more towards that one, but the Revv sounds great and i love the build in Two Notes tech.

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For a direct recording solution, the D20 truly is the better way to go in that it has the Two Notes tech with a reactive load. If stereo is an absolute must, then the SYN2 might be the better choice but you'll be sacrificing a lot of options for direct recording.

    How does it compare to the Mesa Boogie Mark V 25 cab clone and also against the Bogner Atma and Friedman Pink Taco?

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The D20 is more of a single channel platform although it does have a crunch mode. The Mesa Mark V 25 is a two channel amp. The D20 has a 6v6 tube power section which is going to sound different than the Mesa's EL84 power section. The Friedman Pink Taco is also an EL84 power section but like the D20 is a single channel amp. The D20 and the Mesa Mark V 25 and the Friedman are all excellent amplifiers. They are all at different price points. I believe the Mesa is $1599.00 and the Friedman is $1499.00 and the D20 is sitting at $1199.00. One thing that is unquestionable is the Two Notes embedded IR in the D20 is quite a bit better than the analog cab clone circuit in the Mesa or really any analog circuit. I guess the question is really what do you need? Would you rather not use pedals and have a channel switching amp? The Mesa might be the way to go. Do you need a great pedal platform amp with incredible IR tech on board? Maybe go D20. Do you want a great pedal platform amp that sounds more British and you aren't concerned so much with IR or Cab Clone? Maybe go Friedman...

  • @colinmcdonald7591
    @colinmcdonald7591 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe I missed it but is the torpedo reactive load and cabinet emulation always active on the XLR output? Meaning it's active whether you have a cabinet connected or are on headphones or want to record silently etc. Obviously that switch on the back turns off the speaker output but I'm wondering if that also enables the reactive load and cab sim at the same time so you can only have either the cab sim on, or the speaker on but not both. I would hope the torpedo is active all the time so you can send that signal to front of house or to a recording interface while still having the speaker active as well to hear yourself.

    • @drock2313
      @drock2313 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Torpedo output is active all the time. You can run the XLR out at the same time as the speaker output, allowing you to use a cabinet for reference. The Virtual Cabinet/IR would not go through the reference Cab, just direct into your interface. You can also hear the VC/IR used through the headphone output at the same time. The loadbox is a Reactive load, not resistive.
      The speaker load button on the back is essentialy there to mute the cabinet if you have it connected. There is a fail safe that makes sure if you don't have a cab connected, the reactive load is engaged. This way the amp is always protected.

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, the Torpedo is active no matter what. You can choose between the Reactive load built into the amp or use your own cab.

      Thanks very much! No relation to Ernest Tubb. I've got an "s" in my last name. ;)

    Would be even better if it had a dedicated drive channel that was foot switchable. I much prefer amp gain and drive over any pedals, especially to get thick punching and sustained leads, so it's the only oversight I see here on an otherwise really practical little amp. I have the EVH 5150 mini head and it honestly gets WAY too loud for bedroom. The REVV intrigues me for that 4 watt setting. Ironically, the EVH lunchbox has a 4 watt switch too and it sound nothing like that. It's literally just as freaking loud as the 15 watts, which are RAGING loud. Great to play with a full band in a rehearsal space, but I wanted the versatility of the low-wattage bedroom levels. It baffles me that making an amp that does all this is so hard for companies to develop. REVV is very close, but again, the lack of two channels personally makes it a pass for me.

      Sounds like the Revv G20 would be what you want. Although your comment was 2 years ago so you may have moved on to something else now. Good luck!

    Just so you know, my wife hates you. Lol. Every time you demo something, I talk about it all night. She may even sue you over all the money I’ve been spending 😂🤣. Great demo, as always!

    I give it a like solely on the guys guitar playing . The amp is way overpriced it's a simple tube amp with stereo options available 20 years ago in top-of-the-line home stereos.

      Well the two notes reactive loadbox built into the amp is the selling point. Youd pay about half the price of this amp just for the loadbox.

    Amps and amp heads are getting too sophisticated all The well known guitar players play older amps they don’t need to be NASA build amps
