    Fun fact: no French Co-Prince of France visited Andorra until Charles de Gaulle. Since then each successive Co-Prince has made a point of visiting Andorra at least once.

    During a walking holiday in the Pyrenees, a friend of mine and his wife accidentally wandered into Andorra and spent the afternoon getting drunk in a bar. Then they wandered out again. No-one asked to see their passports or even asked how they came to be there. No-one cared. 😀

    You missed the best part, in 1934 a minor russian noble called Borís Skósyrev was proclaimed king of Andorra by the parlament, 20 days later the spanish Guardia Civil entered Andorra an put him into prisson by order of the bishop of Urgel.

      ​@@benthomason3307 Arabia sits on very valuable trade routes are holds the city of Mecca, quite literally the most important place in Islam. I would think Arabia would be a very enticing target for powerful muslim rulers to conquer as it would greatly boost their position among the Islamic world. The reason the Turks didn't take it over was because they had other lands around them that were easier to take over and enemies to fight like Austria, Russia, Spain and Persia; another reason is the Arabs don't particularly like being ruled by non-Arabs and especially not the Turks whose Sultan had taken the title of Caliph which the Arabs felt should belong to them.

      The Vatican is simply the Papal states that always existed. It's just that Garibaldi when he secured Italy's independence he wanted to make Rome the nation's capital which at the time was the only territory left of the papal states. At one time they used to cover the whole of central italy

      it's mostly filled with with spanish athletes and celebrities dodging taxes. In fact, las week spain's biggest youtuber (El Rubius) announced he was moving there and there's been a lot of talk about it on tv

      The opposite, actually. Any microstate by default exists either on a small, remote island, or if its neighbors allow it to exist, which is why Europe has so many. Compare Hong Kong or Kuwait. Other than that, countries like Andorra or Liechtenstein are wealthier than they would be otherwise, as they can use the industrial base, intellectual capital and defense budget of their bigger neighbors.

      Catalonians sounds better than catalans because the word "catalan" reminds me of cats and lawns. Cats should be indoor pets and not be allowed on any lawn, so "catalan" is wrong. My logic is best and anyone that says other wise just want people's cats to runaway when they're out on their lawns.

    You didn't mention geography. Andorra is very hard to get to; until the mid-20th century, there was only one way in for vehicular traffic (IIRR, on the French side); even now, I think there are only two, one to each side.
