Hey all! At 2:39 there is a small error, that structure on the bottom left has an oxygen atom where there should be a nitrogen atom attached to R5, as the previous electron-pushing arrow would indicate. Sorry for the mixup!

I am a retired physician and enjoy reviewing and learning new material. I have listened to many and professor Dave is very gifted and so knowledgeable about many things. I hope his channel continues to blow up.

@@yutehube4468 Professor Dave holds a Masters degree. I understand where you are coming from. He has not earned a doctorate degree and is therefore not respecting the academic title of professor. I had always thought professor Dave was his stage name as he is teaching to the public on TH-cam and not at a university. It does not matter to me if he calls himself professor Dave.
What is important is the number of people that he has helped over the years for free. Hopefully real university professors will watch his channel and learn how to communicate better to their students.

Heck yeah, now that we’re in pharmacy school thanks to Prof Dave, these videos sum it up in an incredibly entertaining way.
Caught myself watching this for pleasure instead of for studying ♥️

Fascinating stuff, Professor Dave. One quick follow-up. You explained in the video how Ugi's Reaction has been and continues to be used, but you didn't explain why Ugi worked so diligently to come up with this reaction in the first place. As with most of these named reactions, I'm always left wondering why these individuals even wanted to develop their particular named reaction. Perhaps some of them were purely by accident that found utility later by happenstance? Thanks for the great content you continue to produce!

I love that you showed the usefulness of of this reaction in drug synthesis! Wish my clinical chemistry teacher did that for us in med school.

It's also used to make lidocaine.

Am I wrong, or is there a mistake on the final product at 2:41 ?

Not sure if you've covered it. There's a video on a channel " Just have a think " on Artificial starch from co2. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Since this is just the Passerini reaction with an extra compound, is there a problem with unwanted side-products?

Professor Dave, what you could share with us about statistics. Alongside all calculus courses that I very much love it, maybe there could be one on statistics and probability, very handful for data scientists

Ugh... the Ugi reaction. I briefly toyed with working this into my doctoral thesis but went in another direction. Great synthetic utility but often a total bitch to optimize and accompanied by bizarre side-reactions.
I always heard it pronounced it as "YOO-gee" (like "Yogi").

    Dear Dave,
I wish you could make a video about this boy remembering his past life being a pilot in WW2. Pp often take stories like this as a prove for their point that there is indeed some sort of supernatural energy inside our body.
If anyone knows anything about this story please share your thought. Is it in fact real??

A little side note that has nothing to do with this subject posted...
but it seems a certain failed lawyer wannabe astrophysicist has really got his pants in a bunch.
Since you called him out on his BS a couple months ago,and a few of us others, have done a bit of background research on him as well, and made comments on his channel regarding his data "theft and misuse" when it comes to astronomical events, hes really,REALLY started coming unglued. In one of his most recent posts and comments, his language has become so ghetto gutter that its laughable.Hes really losing composure...going super nova if you will,LOL. Yep..hes a real professional,LOL.
    Have a great day.😁😈
