Thank you so much for this. Please can you help me to understand from bar10-17 with 8va and where and how you put that 8va in place as I am confused. Thanks so much.

8va - ottava - which means at the octave, either higher or lower its implied by the context. Nowadays, we also see 8va - ottava alta and 8vb - ottava bassa.

I'm learning this currently for my grade 4. Your performance is really lovely. (Also, I thought I had big hands, but I can't comfortably play the second to last bar without moving my left hand!)

Hi Julian, 1st of all thank you for all your work, it really helps a lot! I like Miers Jazz, Rags, ... books VERY much and finally have entered stage 3 with this piece. However I have BIG problems with the 1st LH over because the hands are sooo close (mine are definately smaller than yours). I watched your slow tempo video on this passage quite analytical and noticed that you play the c eb g on the top of the keys. is this the "only" "trick" or is there sth else that I dont see... it looks so easy :) when you play it... regards ...

Thanks! There will be other ways of getting round the technical difficulties of this piece, dependent, as you say to an extent on hand size. If it looks easy ...I've been playing a while!

I am trying to learn this but I have got confused by the 8va instruction on the left hand half way through. You play the bottom G which sounds perfect but I wondered why that is written there as it would make it the top G. Please help, thank you

8va can mean an octave higher or lower. It depends on the context and is usually obvious. Some publishers/efitors use 8va and 8vb to distinguish between higher or lower.

I love this, it sounds like something Elissa Milne would compose. I like the innovative take on blues. Really nice piece and great playing
