Thanks for another great lesson! Sometimes, I also hear people asking questions with the word เป็นไหม. For example: คุณว่ายน้ำเป็นไหม What is the best way to respond? With เป็น / ไม่เป็น ?
When someone asks เป็นไหม it's like asking "can you?" But it differs from ได้ไหม by focusing on your ability to do something. In your example คุณว่ายน้ำเป็นไหม it's like asking "do you have the ability to swim?" (implying that if I threw you into the water would you be able make it to shore) By contrast, asking ได้ไหม is like asking about one's willingness to do so. In the swimming example you might have the ability to swim, but you're just too busy at the moment and your schedule won't allow it. When someone asks เป็นไหม you can answer เป็นครับ for yes or ไม่เป็นครับ for no. I hope that helps.
