Harvard, Stanford & Wharton - MBA Decision Reaction

  • College decision reaction videos are everywhere, but I see almost no one reacting to business school decisions. I hope this video motivates you to navigate the admissions process and apply to the MBA program you really want to go to. MBA applications and MBA admissions at Harvard Business School, Stanford Graduate School of Business and Wharton Business School are crazy! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions on the admissions process.
    Results of my applications:
    MIT Sloan - rejected
    INSEAD - accepted
    Chicago Booth - rejected
    Wharton - accepted
    HBS - accepted
    Stanford GSB - accepted

      Thank you for the congratulations. What helped me get a good score on the GMAT was using on of those online tools that work the same way the GMAT does and also gives you related lessons when you make a mistake. I used magoosh and it made studying just sooo much more efficient!
      On verbal specifically: I feel it takes a little longer to improve on the verbal part, because the basis for a good score are very good english language skills.
      Specifically for reading comprehension what helped me a lot was reading slowly and carefully to make sure I understand everything instead of not skimming and guessing. There are a couple of good youtube channels that go through reading comprehension (i really like "the tested tutor", he explains everything very well).
      On sentence correction: I would advise you to go through the lessons (either in a tool, such as magoosh or in a study book) to grasp each concept / rule. I hope that helps. I'll make a video on the application process and maybe later also on specific applications or parts, such as the GMAT. So feel free to subscribe if you wanna see more ;)

    Isnt Wharton Mba better than Havard? Can you explain why u were so much happier with the Havard acceptance than Wharton?

    • @LukasHaffer
      @LukasHaffer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi jz, Wharton is a great school, but most people (especially internationally) idealize Harvard as a mother university. It is by far the strongest international brand and even though Wharton does beat HBS in some metrics (e.g., salary post graduation), most people still consider HBS to be the better program. It receives many more applications and has a lower acceptance rate (ca. 10% at HBS vs. ca. 25% at Wharton). Yet, I would have been happy to attend Wharton as I regard it to be a great school with a great class make up! KR Lukas

    Can you apply for an MBA immediately after undergraduate or do you have to work for a bit before applying?

    • @LukasHaffer
      @LukasHaffer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Alexis, the average number of years of work experience is 4.5 in the Top MBA programs. However there is a way to apply without work experience as a deferred applicant / 2+2 applicant at Stanford and Harvard. Yale also has a similar program call silver scholars. At all of these schools this application process is very competitive. Most applicants have extraordinary profiles (i.e., already founded a successful company, worked at Google over summer and got really strong recommendations.) and achieved above avg. GMAT scores (often significantly above the average of 740 in Stanford). I personally do not recommend to apply straight out of college, as I believe you will get more out of your MBA experience, if you can connect class learnings to real world examples from your work history and chose courses based on what you want to do after business school. After a few years of work experience you will have a much clearer picture of what you enjoy doing at work and where you want to lead your career. However, if you are in the mood for taking the GMAT...do it! You are still mentally in study mode from college (which will fade soon as you start working) and you might have some time on your hands. The score remains valid for 5 years and who knows... maybe you achieve an extraordinary result and decide to apply now. It definitely can not hurt. And if you do not succeed at first, that's ok. Just keep at it and you will most likely achieve your desired score and have a shot at your desired MBA program. KR Lukas

    Does the school grades matter that much for applying in mba

    • @LukasHaffer
      @LukasHaffer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The grades from your undergraduate (bachelors) degree matter. The schools use it as one (of two or three) factors to judge whether you are able to perform in an academic setting and thus keep up in classes. Bad grades can be offset to a certain degree by performing really well on the GMAT/GRE (i.e., an above average score for the school you are applying to). My GMAT was 740 and thus helped offset my 3.3 GPA from my bachelors degree and a top public German university (which is not well known in the US). If you meant high school grades ... those don't generally matter in the admissions process.

    • @LukasHaffer
      @LukasHaffer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The top MBA programs all charge ca. 75-85k p.a. for tuition. For the exact figures, have a look at their websites. Additionally you have to pay for housing in some of the world's most expensive neighborhoods. But especially HBS and the Stanford GSB are generous with their scholarships, helping you pay for the total cost of your MBA.

      Hey Joao, my GPA in Germany translates to a 3.3 and my GMAT was 740. I believe for an internationally unkown school like mine (University of Cologne) the GMAT was considered as more comparable and helped me a lot - since Stanfords average GPA is 3.8 otherwise 😊
