That’s what was originally told but we’ve now been told over the weekend at Petit Le Mans it’s a different engine altogether even though it’s a 2.4L twin-turbo V6 like the new IndyCar regs.
@@mrbloodmuffins Without a doubt! It's an exciting time for sports car racing and the horizon is looking very bright. If Lamborghini or Audi end up joining in 2024 that will just add to an already exciting and diverse field even if most of the manufacturers are German and three originate from the Volkswagen Group. I wanna see how these smaller team DPi machines stack up against the factory backed WEC Hypercars.
@@deborahpriestley4739 Lambo is already confirmed for 2024 and have released a teaser image, the Audi program was sadly cancelled in favor of F1. Agreed the Cadillac looks much better than the DPI though not nearly as good as the renders lol. Also I don't think it's fair to call them 'smaller' teams, all the currently confirmed LMDhs will have factory teams.
That car was a menace to me all day. They had it out there to test double stinting tires and as a BoP check. It probably ran the most amount of laps. It was either interrupting the LMDh sound or it would go out on track all alone and i’d get excited then let down lol
At the introduction they said that they have used people from Honda F1 (Honda Racing-Japan) and Indycar (HPD) and IMSA (HPD) to come up with this package, both aero and powertrain. That could sure make it a serious contender, one would think.
This is extremely exciting. If IMSA can keep the formula for the new GTPs affordable and open to other, non-factory teams, it will be a massive improvement over Hypercar. The cars look and sound great, and there are still some entries we have yet to see (coming 2024!). I am looking forward to Daytona 2023 and the maiden race for these machines. The cherry on top would be one of these cars winning Le Mans!
Wish I did, I have photos of the tire marks it left though. They had a component failure on Monday then had a spin on Tuesday or Wednesday which had to do with the brakes allegedly that made them cut the test short after that. They have plenty of spares we were told but with the short window coming up for homologation they don’t want to risk more parts being torn up.
BMW miles behind the other two... And the Caddy as agile as the lighter DPI...maybe they are running without hybrid system...can't hear it harvesting under braking unlike BMWs for ex.
early enough to the video, I'd like to take this opportunity to say that nascar needs to team up with tevas or crocs or adidas and make a livery themed nascar line of sandals
@Neex8 the new ones that is*. The current (now former) ones were nice especially the Cadillacs, I was also there! I’m regards to the next and new generation of cars, they seem really quiet compared to the cars we have been used to, that’s all. I know we’re going to see some great racing though
I will say if you feel this way then the video doesn’t do it justice. These cars are actually quite loud. Loud enough that it was tough to adjust the microphone levels of the Cadillac when it went by. You can hear that thing from the other side of the track! The Acura as well just makes a wayyy louder noise. Then the BMW compared to their recent GT cars is way beyond their typical noise level. You add in 2-3 more of these all together and next season is going to be louder!
The caddy sounds like the old C7Rs in this footage; I hope they do in person too, because there is no feeling like those thunderous V8s rumbling your core (while the old NA 911Rs shrieking like V10 F1 cars provided a beautiful timbrous contrast)
Mazda ran an extremely heavily turbocharged 2.0L I4, and that thing was an absolute missile on the straights. The last few seasons when IMSA let the DPi teams turn the cars up they were revving the things out to something like 9k RPM and they were easily the angriest sounding prototypes on the track.
Love the video! Content great but I hate to be that guy, those are not HyperCars. LMDh or GTP do not have Hypercar attached to their name at all. Should not be confused with manufacturers who actually developed their own car and chassis.
I love how you can tell them apart by hearing them, they don’t all sound the same.
Yes thats great, not like formula lmp2 we have had to endure the last couple years!
The Acura/Honda sounds like the Honda F1 Turbos from the 80s AMAZING!
It actually has a lower Reving version of the 2024 INDYCAR engine in it
That’s what was originally told but we’ve now been told over the weekend at Petit Le Mans it’s a different engine altogether even though it’s a 2.4L twin-turbo V6 like the new IndyCar regs.
Looks like the team moved to Japan for a while and learned a lot from Honda’s F1 programme - some clever cylinder deactivation
this has to be the most footage of the new cars the public has ever seen
Yeah probably
That noise from the Cadillac 😍😍
Visually the new Cadillac is a big improvement over the DPi.
Its impressive how different the Cadillac and the BMW look despite being on the same chassis.

honestly just love seeing the on the ground perspective of road atlanta, what a great track
One of my favorites to watch racing and one of the best to shoot at
Tuesday morning we had a deer on the track at Turn 4. It finally moved so we could get the Acura & BMW going.
2:16 Nice downshifts 👌

That Acura does sound like an Indycar, so cool. Honda going to have a serious leg up on Chevy for the next gen Indycar engines

Caddy is BADASS!
Bmw the winner in looks, Acura and Caddy win Sound. Great formula already.
3 futuristic race cars that sound great and are all different. (I like the BMW the best)
Love the Caddy, like the Acura, not bothered with the BMW honestly
