- On this kayak fishing trip, I did some ultralight fishing with gulp minnows for bluegill to use for catfish bait. I ended up catching some big bluegill and then got lucky when I was able to land a gar. It was fun trip.

Gar are a fun fish to catch, awesome ultralight video
Justin, this was one of your coolest ultra light vids.
Longnose gar are so neat!
Underwater shots are cool. Nice to see your channel evolve over the years. Keep up the good content.
Enjoyed Justin be safe brother
Very cool gar
That Gar was really 😎
America's most wanted Bluegill. That was a great section of video.
Very rare landing bare handed gar landing WOW!
I always enjoy your show.
Like your bucket setup
Thanks for your hospitality on this early Saturday morning trip. Your enthusiasm over the gar is a bonus! I believe that your idea of creating one-of-a-kind memorabilia for your avid fans is an idea that will stick to the wall. In fact, I suggest that you mount some of these items on suitable-size plaques to hang on a wall and attach a small brass plate with the name of the video and its date for reference. I'm not a techie, but I wonder if it's also possible to include a poignant screen-capture from the video to show how the item played a special part in the video. Good luck with that project. As with others of your successful ventures and adventures, it is especially likely to pan out well because you welcome the collaboration of others and accept help to upgrade the experience according to your initial vision. Your heart is leading you in the best possible direction as you share the joy.
Thank you Art!
Holy cow awesome catch! Man I am extremely impress awesome, congrats !
those gar fight like small northern pike from when I was kid in Wisconsin... now here in DFW on Lake Lewisville and Grapevine they can make for a fun day....fun video.....
The catch of the day that was pretty cool 👍👍🙀
Nice video. Gar makes good catfish bait too.
Justin’s like the bob ross of fishing youtubers 😄
Thank you for the video
They have the bags of them at Walmart In my area I use them for brook trout up in the streams in the mountains
Ultra light life
Love ur videos keep it up
"Here comes a jet-skier, i hate them too" too funny. Love the ultra light videos!
Wish our lakes had cover like yours. Ours are more like farm ponds no cover.
I bought some of those gulp smelt colors after seeing you use them. They work really well on the little pond I fish , thanks .
As Always another great video Justin, gar on an ultralight definitely awsome. Absolutely love your content and Appreciate what you do for our entertainment, thank you and cant wait for the next video!!
Thanks Doug
Now that was funny. America's most wanted bluegill..😂😂
This was a really good video and I bought me a ultralight fishing rod it's just a cheapo and I started fishing with the trout magnets lures and I really enjoy it and it being on ultralight rod it is fun catching bream and bluegill and occasionally a small bass will bite it and but it is very enjoyable I enjoyed the video especially with the gar thank you Justin have a great day
Nice bluegills hope u catch a big one
Thanks!
Thank you Art! I appreciate the donation.
Nice Gar Justin 🎣
"Here comes a jet ski. I hate them too.." 😂😂
Can't believe you got us with that title for a gar. Watch your videos no matter the title but crying myself to sleep tonight for falling for this one. Next Saturday title should be "F#&@ Jetskis!"
Wax worms work real good for blue Gill and any bait fish
I like poppers to.
And here comes a jet ski, hate them too 🤣🤣🤣
Lmao 🤣that gar was awesome 👌
Cool video Justin. That gar was an awesome catch on light tackle. I caught a. 51 1/4 " gar yrs ago on the Congaree river here in SC
Those Gar feel like they have metal Armor!
The jig idea is cool Justin!! Always a good show, thank you sir!!👍👍
With the gar, let them grab it then open your bail. Let them run and when they stop they will start working the bait to the base of their mouth. Then when they run again then set the hook
Them dang things get on my nerves when I am trying to catfish... but they are a fun time if they find the hook! Great catch on the ultralight!
If you wrapped your hook shank with thread, super glued it to the shank and then super glued the Gulp bait to the shank it may last even longer.
Get a replica longnose and put the lure and that hook. And the line and put it as an under water bite scene.
Them gar are good eating
Should try gar for catfish bait.
That right there would have gone home and in the skillet! I love Bluegills!
The water here is contaminated.
Hopefully you still do some bass tournaments I really enjoyed those also.
I have a couple more bass tournaments coming up in the next couple months
You ain't lying about finding them. I found 3 chartreuse in the tub for 5.99 each and they the smoke in a 10 piece pack for 6.99
Hey, those bluegills taste great to people too. Not just kittyfish. Lol. Kinda new to your channel but I've been putting in work to catch up on it. I'm putting in an open invitation to you if you ever come to central Indiana. White river is within 5 minutes of my house and I just bought my 1st kayak at the beginning of spring. If you ever pass through here, I'll be ready for your lessons.
Love the channel. Keep doing what you're doing.
That's great Americas most wanted bluegill
Your escaped blue gill just had me belly laughing 😃
I caught quite a few of them trying to catch catfish with night crawlers
Mount the jig head on a photo of the gar. Leave a piece of the line on it to show.
Justin, you can't use one of those bluegills in your slot limited tournament. No measurement needed. Love that water.
Next time can you talk about your livewell setup?
Best tasting fish ever. Pa.in to clean, but we'll worth it.
We do a bunch of blue gill fishing during the summer when they get on the beds that's a ton of fun no matter your age... Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
Nice
Nice bro love it
I really enjoy the occasional break of your ultra-lite bait-fishing videos. As always, you impart a lot of good advice. Thanks for taking us along.
Lol when I was younger I hated gar. Now that im grown up I love catching them. A predatory fish that is indigenous, bites willingly and just straight up neat as hell. These things are like modern day dinosaurs in the flesh.
11th day straight at work no fishing. But I get one off day Saturday and it's all night on the river
hope you get the big one whenever you do get out fishing. need to get back out on the water myself.
I recently got a kayak and I love your videos so I tried to catfish on the kayak. I had a cut bluegill piece above the bottom and I ended up catching my first pike!
Thats awesome! I bought some jig heads and gulp minnows because of you and my buddy was messing around with it and caught a 14 lb flathead on it. I couldn't believe it!! Never heard of it before
Good stuff always. Thanks for taking me along sir. Stay safe
Always like , sometimes comment , yup as you can see today is a comment day . Love that , got a gar on a ultra lite . I’m just down the road a piece in Brownsville Tn , and dang I love this channel. Kinda jealous I can’t get up that way too much . So ima livin vicariously thru you . Until vacation time . Lol keep em a commin.
Thanks Ken
Those Bluegill sure would be good fried.
The water is contaminated where we are from so they aren’t that good for you fried
The coveted log fish lol
Lmao! Escaped convict...
I know you say you don’t care about the color of the one inch gulp but I find that I catch bigger bluegill with the green one.
Another cool video brother I will keep a eye out for that blue gill that escaped from you. Is there a reward for that fish lol
Wowzer 😳
I want the hook and treble From the paddle fish you caught a couple years back I need that luck in my boat lol
I prefer 4lb line on my ultralight cause i accidently hook into 5lb+ channels an 10lb+ drums
You inspired me to buy those gulp minnows! I flat out tear some fish on them.
That was awesome landing that Gar! I like the memorabilia idea too. Thanks for sharing!
Now you really need to retye
I am intolerant of jet skis and wake boats as well.
Well that was very cool to see Justin, nice job very patiently landing the prehistoric relic that has been roaming around rivers for 100s of millions of years!
Great video, been really enjoying the videos!
I'd buy a red sinker with your logo on it.
That was a nice spotted gar.. congrats on landing it
Ultra lights are soo much fun!! Definitely not a fan of gars thou. Stay safe out there as always
America's Most Wanted bluegill.....🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wow
Nice video
I bought my first kayak this year. I NOW hate pleasure boaters.
We call those 'sticks' => "Wood Pike" ;^)
Great video keep up the good work im a huge fan
It's not a stupid idea. You are going to be surprised by the demand for those items.
You caught a gar on 2 lb. test and ultralight gear....have yourself a see-gar!!
Legendary ultralight catch Justin!
I found some at Bass Pro, a couple of weeks ago.
You ever think about walleye fishing?
I have only caught one walleye in my life and it was by accident. I wouldn’t know how to do it
So cool to hear you talk about the 3" Gulp minnow. That's what we use on our pond here. Skips the little ones and goes to bass. We've caught some great bass with them and even some channels.
I love how often you post. Always brightens my day. Thanks!
I like to use Gulp baits on jigs, too. I have found that if I wrap the length of the shaft of the hook once or twice with dental floss and then coat it with super glue, the Gulp stays on much better. It is harder to put on because you have to slide it over the floss, but that is what makes it stay on better. Also seems to make the Gulp last longer because it isn't getting pulled off the shaft all the time.
The ole Richard Gene technique
dang it looked like he went right for your face when he decided to thrash. you almost lost that nose lol
I really enjoy the ultralight videos
Surprised you don’t run an aerator on your bait bucket. For 10$ and some batteries, keeps bait alive much longer.
I can picture it now... 40 years from now at a charity auction a Justin Johnson jig head sells for big $🤩 I too have a artifact a #4 octopus that was baited with half a crawler that hooked me a 40lb Flathead. Sadly my hook is only valuable to me...🤔
