    these safety stands should replace all the spotters and safety straps at meets.

      The safety stands may work for guys that lift as light as Sumner, but I remember one time I thought I was safe because I had safety stands, but because I was benching over 1,300 pounds, the safety stands snapped and the bar began to crush me. Refusing to give up, I powered through and lifted the weight back up to the rack. No one could believe how strong I was (and am).

    for me, going heavy with a bench shirt resulted in two sprained wrists. I can't imagine how he held this.

      I must admit this style of benching isn't great to look at and I prefer to bench with full ROM myself, I just think he is a great athlete.

    • @selkirkswift
      @selkirkswift 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You’re right, it’s not a proper full ROM bench. It’s impressive that it’s being moved at all, but don’t call it benching x among my if this is all you’re doing. It seriously looked like shoulders locking it out, arms not even bending.

    • @notmarr2000

      @@MrMLBson09 exactly. Super shirts and a range of motion of 8 inches is what the bench press has evolved into during the last 40 years. Someday they'll just measure how much weigh can be pressed off the rack stands. It is reported that this lifter can do 530 raw or "classic" which is a very impressive honest figure.

    First off, I am sure that dude is crazy strong but I call Bullshit for the following reason. One, when your chest and belly are that big, of course it assist. I know, he didn't touch his chest or bounce, but your range of motion is directly proportionate to the curvature of your torso. Basically, he didnt have that far to go in relation to his out-curved torso. Two, I dont care who fucking argues this point bench press shirts are such Bullshit. Not only do they directly reduce the amount of force needed to push the weight, like a spring, they reduce the amount of resistance required to lower and control the weight leaving more energy for the push back up. So the reduction in effort is reduced...again. Again, I bet this guy has a nasty raw bench, but claiming 900+ lbs on bench with a shirt? Come on, that smells like Bullshit to me. I'm no where near 900 lbs, but I take pride knowing that I can cleanly press 365 lbs with no shirt, no wraps, no straps, nothing. I don't always touch by I break a 90 every time and and I'm 6f6. Think about those wings and that range,of motion, its hard as fuck. I could probably go up to 450+ with a shirt, but whats that get me? A lie

    It's impressive that anyone can hold that much weight up much less move it up and down even slightly. The fact is Blaine nor anyone else could even come close to that weight if they would do it correctly. Full ROM and Raw with no bench shirt and whatever else they're using. Also, and I know it's their choice but no one ever talks about their actual health. This is a very unhealthy way to live. The guy spotting him is obese. The human body can only take so much stress of overeating and more importantly continuously overstressing the vascular system.
