Totally agree. And of many of the new releases that I have recently seen, this one looks more consistent with less over under. I could definitely use Nu Blue in league.
Ahhhh man! You can’t leave us hanging like that! lol…. I saw that and my jaw dropped. I went to one step after knee surgery… still have a ton of power. Throwing 18mph and north of 400 rev and still struggle keeping it left (I’m a lefty) of the head pin on most of my balls with a house shot. And that’s even after trying different layouts. I will keep my eye open for that video/product!
Just now found you from JR Raymond's last video on the Nu Blue, where he recommended this video. I was not disappointed. However, I am in absolute AWE over that undrilled Nu-Line X-Calibur on the table. That ball brings back so many memories for me. It was the catalyst that completely changed our sport. And I had one very early on. I'd kill for one now. I'd display it as the pride of my collection. Subscribed.
I was intrigued as soon as I heard of the existence of this ball. It seems that the people who developed this are trying to preserve the early ball motion of the Purple Pearl Hammer without having to make the cover harder to comply with the new PBA rules of hardness for urethane and urethane-like balls. I bet they had a ball developing and naming this ball, and I love the name because it definitely seems like a snarky jab at the PBA rules committee who have outlawed the Purple Pearl Hammer. From what I’ve seen here in your presentation I think I like everything about the NU Hammer except the color. I really like the forgiveness of the urethane-like motion, and it seems like that is exactly what a lot of medium-skilled bowlers, myself included, would need on spotty lane conditions. I’ve drilled balls for over 25 years for an outfit that continued to carry SMU type urethane balls for years after most bowlers had converted to resin, and I used to recommend urethane for bowlers in the 140-180 average range who were wanting to upgrade from their plastic balls. The inherent forgiveness of urethane is a good choice for bowlers of that skill level. As I grow older and my physical ability declines I am sorry that I got rid of my urethane balls when I jumped on the reactive bandwagon. A couple of those old pieces would be helpful to me now, but it’s probably a moot point because those balls are too heavy for me anyway. I was really glad to see the urethane balls making a comeback, even though they were being used mostly by high-speed, high-rev players. I am the exact opposite of those power players but I find it easier to keep the ball in the pocket with urethane. Occasionally I string a few strikes, but mostly I am just happy with filling frames. I can live with weak tens and the occasional 8-10 split. Overall, the comeback of urethane has been a big help to me. Lastly, I’d like to thank you for your channel. I find your intelligent, easygoing style relaxing, engaging and educational. Great review on the new Hammer, and great channel overall!
@Ctdbowling You left us hanging! I wish I could change one of my balls to get that urethane like motion. I just pulled out my Motiv Recon rx Silver 14 lb high RG low diff ball to see if I can play the dry on my 13 to 1 41 ft 19 mil house shot. I'm a lefty with 11-12 mph on screen was considering the nu blue hammer.
You found a way to "fill" the pores in the surface without throwing hundreds of games?!?! Always wondered if it was possible and get it to hold. Can't wait to get more info!
Nice ending... A compound, possibly, to have the surface hook early. Interested in how long the surface lasts vs. urethane, and the hardness difference.
I have your scanner and the Not Urethane ball and I’ve found it stabilizes around 1500. I started league with 1500. Including practice i threw 25 shots. After 3 games the NU scanned at 4000. After cleaning the NU was back to 1500
I agree with the below request. I have found my eyes see "Urethane" better than "Resin" in general. Of course patterns will dictate that at times. I'm guessing what you are saying with this video is that the main reason the ball can call itself "Not Urethane" is that it absorbs oil at a higher rate than traditional "Urethane". Do you know if the MCP balls have the absorption rate difference that qualify them as "not banned"? Also, the "Product" you use on the mindset at the end. I found that interesting as it did seem to give the ball a more "Urethan Like" read. I'm wondering what that product is and do you sell it? If so also how long does it last on the ball?
MCP balls do not absorb oil much and thus are classified as "urethane like" by the PBA and must meet the same hardness requirement as urethane. But who cares? No one is throwing MCP in the PBA
Hey Ron. I I know this is an older video. But by chance think you could do a comparison with the Hammer NU vs the Radical Big Bite NU too see any difference thank you keep a rockin
Interesting product teaser! As a Regional Staffer, I'll be looking forward to seeing how it works and if the "mystery Juice" can be removed from the ball. Reason why I ask is I do not need a urethane ball, due to not bowling on conditions that need it, but i do bowl one tournament a yearthat looks to be a urethane shot.
Im a national staffer. Love the breakdown and the comparison on the NU, the purple urethane and purple reactive. The $1,000,000 ? Is what's in the black bottle at the end of the video 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Ok..... NU blu lane shines. I was wondering about that. Great video! Though i have one complaint. The cliffhanger at the end! 🤯😲 gotta know what the magic sauce is!
The other thing that needs to be check is the hardness of the ball at its start and its use. Because that was the main concern of the PBA in regards to the urethane material, that it will get softer with its usage.
Oh sh#t Ron, you might have lightning in a bottle there, im 60 uear old 1 handed thumbless bowler from the 90's still throwing 16lbs so my ball speed is down. You just might have something there that will put alot of equipment back in my hand! Cant wait to see!
Is it because of the lower grit finish (500, 1000) that makes Urethane rolls early? Or Urethane, by nature of the material, rolls earlier than reactive even solid reactive?
I am very curious what causes the cover stocks to change surface faster if the durometer measurements of the two materials are nearly the same (and urethane is accused of being "soft")
Can you tell me if it is a good or bad idea to clean the Purple Hammer Pearl with the light purple pin? Was told never to clean it but saw you clean it.
Regarding that last product teaser... I have a weird feeling people should just buy a ball for their particular conditions. Dry lanes/low volume you probably shouldn't be throwing a Gem sanded at 500. If you use your pliers as a hammer you're gonna have a bad time. If you use a heavy oil bowling ball on the wrong conditions, you're also going to have a bad time.
I really wish there was more transparency in coverstock performance that companies put out. A more consumer friendly scale of coverstock strength (maybe just saying what the oil absorption rate or some other metric) so people can understand better exactly what they're buying. Calling something "not urethane" or "micro cell polymer" or even some of the fancy names like "reserve blend 801" just seems borderline predatory from a consumer's perspective
Makes me wonder if they put the minimum amount of plasticizer in the ball to qualify as "not urethane". Not sure what the requirements are regarding this. Does USBC require a certain amount of plasticizer in every ball and are all balls the same? As an example; if you could drain out the plasticizer from a given ball; do you end up with 1 oz, 2 oz, 6 oz???? Maybe the NU has 1 oz whereas a normal resin ball has closer to 6 oz? Know this probably sounds like a crazy idea.

1 handed lefty here... 500rpm, 16-18 mph. I'll be drilling one out.
How about checking the cover from its original finish and after all the shots of the NU ball.
He did say they were all sanded 500. Do you need to see that to believe it for some particular reason?
The other thing that needs to be check is the hardness of the ball at its start and its use. Because that was the main concern of the PBA in regards to the urethane material, that it will get softer with its usage.

Will that magic elixir that gives reactive balls urethane like reaction be available to purchase?

My NU Blue gets way dirtier faster than any other....must be the resin type
The NU blue hooks like a urethane does the first couple shots before it tames down.
Is it because of the lower grit finish (500, 1000) that makes Urethane rolls early? Or Urethane, by nature of the material, rolls earlier than reactive even solid reactive?
