    As senior citizens, we have learned to not over book our time at sea. Yes, we will do a shore excursion on a port that is new to us, or has a new place to visit at that stop, but we really enjoy being on the ships and living the ship life.

    Our lesson is to go to cold places in summer and warm places in winter. This just suits our fancy a bit more.

    My husband and I had an inside cabin on Allure last year. It was on the 8th level, cabin 8450. Our room attendant had accidentally shoved my shoes deep under the bed with a bag of bedding. When we crawled under to grab them, we found an outlet that we never would have known was under there. Even if the beds had been separated, I think the bed would have still covered it. So, we were able to charge our phones on the nightstand for the last night we were there. Lol.

      How was the Allure compared to other Oasis class ships? I'm looking at bookings and the Allure is cheaper, but obviously that's for a reason.

    I went to Hideaway in May and enjoyed the heated pool even with the heat. I also suggest getting to Hideaway as soon as it opens in order to select a good seat.

    Rather than long chords (which take up extra luggage space and can be inconvenient in a cabin where space is limited). Take a couple of power banks.
    Honestly this is always up there with one of my biggest tips for travelling as you never have to rely on outlets by the bed and you can just charge them up during the day when youre likely to not be using an outlet for charging stuff like a camera

    • @sherrimiller4908
      @sherrimiller4908 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree! I charge them while I'm out of the cabin and sit our phones on them overnights to charge on bedstands. But if phone is ever low, I always have an extra to grab and go.

    • @boatlover1875
      @boatlover1875 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My cords and converters take up less space than power blocks. A European plug with multiple USB and american type receptors is cheap. As long as you don't plug anything electric in the US socket like a 120V hair drier or curling iron (anything that creates heat) it should be all good. You can generally even plug most electronic items like your computer into it. Get your magnifying glass out and make sure the block along the cord says 120-240V or similar.

    Having a good travel advisor can help you in those cases when you are on your cruise and something goes wrong with your schedule, like the example that you mentioned. All you have to do is call them up. They will the look up replacement options and quickly get back to with options. All while you are still in joying your cruise.

    Instead of a long USB cord in your stateroom, that you may trip over, I just use a 10,000 - 20,000 mah battery, by the bed. It can cost the same or less than a cord many times. Charge the battery during the day, then plug your phone into the portable power bank at night. So, if you like having your phone on your nightstand without an outlet doing white-noise sounds or whatever you may want to use it for, this is a good option, that also provides an option to charge your phone while away from your stateroom or any power outlets.

    My lesson this year was to pay more attention to the "Kids sail free" special. Our cruise on Harmony out of Galveston in Feb/March was overcrowded and there were more kids than I have ever seen on a cruise. They filled up the adult spaces and the crew didn't do anything about it. Turned me off on RCCL for the upcoming future.

    • @mnb3566
      @mnb3566 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      That is an excellent observation. My wife and I have older kids now and typically just sail as a couple. We think kids are awesome (most of them anyway, 😅)! However, we would prefer not to have them be all over the place like ants when we cruise. Excellent advice!

      @@tduck828 We always go at the end of Feb or early in March before traditional spring break weeks begin (which was always at the end of March when our kids were growing up). I think the Kids Sail Free promotion prompted people to take their kids out of school. I've never been on a ship that was so crowded and that is with over twenty past cruises for comparison.

      @tduck828 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    My cruise bag always includes a high power usb A and C Multiport adapter with a C8 power cord Plus I bring a 7 meter C8 chord and a roll of carpet cable cover (looks like very wide male velcro that you put over a wire and it adheres to the carpet to prevent tripping hazard). While all extension cords are banned on Royal Caribbean there is no restriction on how long the cord can be for a piece of equipment. That way I have a multi port power source by the bed that can charge my phone my wife's phone my ipad (which I like as a bedside clock), both of our Apple watches and can even power my laptop if I'm using it in bed.

  • @daleb147
    @daleb147 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    We've been on Allure and Symphony. Asked our cabin steward for an extension cord for my wife's CPAP. She showed us there's an outlet behind the head of the bed; no extension cord needed. It's only on one side, but should let you use/charge your phone while you're in bed.

    I do not understand how people do multiple stops in a single port day going to Crystal Caves in Bermuda took up most of our day and the shortened ferry schedule on Saturday lessons learned 1 tell your taxi driver which ferry terminal you want and 2nd let the bus driver know too, seeing the last ferry we needed leaving was stressful.

    Just came back from horseshoe bay and it is beautiful but there was an NCL ship as well and when we arrived there were no umbrellas or chairs to rent. My mother in law walks with a cane and we had 2 children with us so this was a major bummer. Luckily someone left and offered us there spots or we would’ve went back to the ship. But horseshoe bay needs to plan for more visitors especially from the northeast areas.

      We live in Texas, and same. In fact our outdoor pools are usually closed in the winter because it's so costly to heat. They use the heaters more for early in the season when the water isn't warm enough on its own yet.

    Captain obvious checking in...I seriously doubt they are actually heating the pools in the summer. I live in the Southeast US and I know this might be shocking, but sun actually does heat the water up. I don't even get in one of the several pools we visit in my community in the summer but sit in the shade and maybe cool off in the shower. The Ocean gets to be 80 or above where I live, I'm pretty sure it is not heated, at least artificially. Just saying.
