The best advice I think I was ever given (which may or may not work for everyone) is to move fast. If you spend too much time working on one thing your ears start playing tricks on you. And I've found this to be true. I used to spend all day, sometimes more on mixes and they'd end up sounding like trash. My mixes got way better since I stopped spending so much time on each task. Anyone else have the same, or similar experience?
right, some people are able to do things slowly and meticulously and have good results, but for the creatives like you n me, we do better "capturing the moment." then we have to take little breaks often as to not get too involved and obsessed with small details, aka lost in the rabbit hole.
Man I’ve been recording myself for a while now and getting better everyday by following your advice. The day I put a album out, your influence will be all over the mix 💯🙏🏽
I have to drop this comment.... you are THE ONLY person I have seen who teaches on TH-cam who actually has FIRE 🔥 music. These other guys just teaching us by their own song sound WHACK AF. Big Up for real. Tired of being taught by people who have terrible songs for real.
I like to use a soft clipper instead of a limiters cause I feel they change the dynamics a little where as the soft clipper rounds off the peaks which make it sound more transparent but great video bro keep up the good work
I use a couple EQ’s in between my master plug in’s to keep the final mix sound louder but the same as the original mix down (EQs between master plug ins )plus also it gives the overall sound of the song a little spice to it crispy highs n mids
1:50 I know this video is old but what if I record at home with my home studio set up and send the session to my professional engineer and he mix&master it will that be competitive with other mainstream music? This is my recording process now and my songs sound just as good and loud as any other artists
When adding the limiters was it part of the mastering stage just to get that overall loudness? or was it before mastering. if so, how much headroom would i need before mastering?
Thanks for the great video! Do you additionally use compressors and limiters an all tracks of the mix? and then you put the ones explained in the video on your master track, export the mix and then master your exported wav file in a new project by adding another limiter/compressor for the final touch right?
What do you check the levels with after you add the master bus processing? Do you check the VU again? If so, what does the VU read after you add all that stuff?
I usually use a compressor on the master to squeeze the dynamics a bit more to get me louder when I use the Gain knob and thats all I basically use, maybe ill try a limiter to bring some volume never thought of that cuz I master my own tracks so I tend to have my levels peaking at -3db and importing it into Ozone 9 to get more volume on the maximizer after tweaking some other stuff.
So this Plugin adds on the master fader is „mastering“ allready or is this just the pre step and the mix will be exported to create a new Session with our exported finished mix to Master this finished mix. Iam confused sorry
I see you have the Kali in 8 v2,how do you like them compared to Adams,Focal. The new Focal Twin Evo and the Kali in 8 v2 ,may look at Kali new sub if needed to go with the Kali in 8 v2.Thank you and continue the great work with the videos. So far this is what I'm trying to decide on.I would like your opinion on those monitors and the overall best choice.
Really dope video thank you. You guided me. I watch the whole video as I was doing what you did and it came out perfect. Do you add your plug ins after you lay down the whole beat or in the process of making your beat
This is awesome! you should rate and review the Klark Teknik - 2A , its a budget friendly 2A going for like $290 and its being talked about in the industry but not many videos on it! They also make a 1176 for same price.
Can you do a video on LUFS and where we should aim for? I notice steaming platforms end up turning my mixes down and still being quieter than other releases even what my mix is at -10 LUFS. Very helpful video though thank you! Going to start using more than 1 limiters on my master chain going forward
How do mess with the VU meter to be at the setting you keep it at again? Looking at this again to get that cause I love the analog look and feel and it make more sense
get YouLean Loudness Meter for free and analyze your master or use as vst in masterchain. Get your master anywhere from -14 to -10 Lufs Integrated rougly. Gonna have to use a limiter to get it there. Use a True Peak limiter and set your ceiling to at least -1dbTruePeak. Other than that, make sure your tonal balance is correct with eq and make sure dynamics and punch are good by using compression or expansion to glue your mix together or make the dynamics pop
but you sacrificed the low end? I would recommend getting your room treated first before you try getting loud mixes, I know your trying to educate but at least tell your listeners that its not just as easy as just slapping a compressor and limiter to take the short cut. Great Video by the way!
How does this pertain to actually mixing rather than recording? I can see your tips being useful as far as actually recording vocals or anything music wise a treated room, but as for mastering I don’t see your point
@@Prodby_duke mastering is the last stage of mixing and it’s just called mastering because the last pair of ears just balances the low, mid, highs, dynamics and stereo imaging just to name a few. If your room is not treated then don't even bother doing your own mastering if you take your music seriously. You could just send it to someone with a proper studio and they only charge anywhere from $80 - $100. Might seem like alot for a amateur but for professionals this is the best investment you can make. Good luck
@@MichaelsMadOfficial you mean, that I can mix loud uploading to TH-cam, and it would sound not bad at all because of the TH-cam Limiting precessing? Other question, do you know the beatmaker Lezter, maybe you know how he get so strong and loud masters?
Question: before watching this video, i saw this other one you did (th-cam.com/video/9mcw4U-9O5o/w-d-xo.html) where you explain why you don't put any processing on the master fader but instead you use a "Submaster" for that...which is what i normally do as well, but now I'm a bit confused why i didnt see that here? thnx for ya time G

Ur videos done made me a monster‼️‼️‼️ wanna send u one of my mixes
Yo Wayne, thanks a lot! Just one guestion:why do you use multiple compressors/limiters? Just to keep more of the dynamics?
More artifacts start to appear when you push one too hard. Small improvements in steps sounds cleaner than doing so much at once.
Thanks mannn (just now seeing your reply😂👏)
