THE MOST BEAUTIFUL TOWN IN GERMANY

  • Okay, I'm a little biased. But Schwabisch Hall is such an amazing town, I love living here. The only other town that has given me the same kind of vibes as Schwabisch Hall is Rothenburg, which I also loved. I have some time off coming up in July so I'd love some good spots that I can take day trips to.

LOVE Rothenburg, it's gotta be my favourite town in the world! If you're into lakes ... try Brombachsee (that's not too away) or Bodensee... Have you been to Vellberg or Waldenburg? Both are pretty, tiny and not more than 20 min from you but they are more of an "I have an hour of free time" thing ;-) Oh and the www.wackershofen.de open air museum to see what life has been like a few 100 years ago...

I would recommend that you go to Ludwigsburg and check out the castles there (yes there are a lot of them in the city). It's beautiful architecture and walking around in the main castle for example is really breathtaking

Nice towns near Hall: easy. Drive to Würzburg (about 1h, just follow the B19) and than follow the signs "Romantische Strasse" ("romantic road"). You'll get lots medieval cities along this road: Wertheim, Weikersheim (visit the castle), Creglingen, Rothenburg o.d. Tauber, Dinkelsbühl, Nördlingen (you can completely walk around the old city on the city walls), Harburg (big castle) etc. etc.
BTW: the oldest part of St. Michael was built in 1156, more than 860 years ago...

You probably should specify "Harburg in Schwaben", because almost every online search would take you to either Harburg as a borough of Hamburg or the county Harburg in Lower Saxony. Also nice places, but maybe not what NALF is looking for.

if you compare Rothenburg (a tourist Cinderella town where the whole year is christmas time) with the living and natural city of Schwäbisch Hall I can´t take you for serious. Würzburg was 90% destroyed during WWII nothing is original old like in Schwäbisch Hall. Nördlingen is nice but very far away. The other towns are much smaller, nice to have but no must.

Wernigerode in Harz Mountains is worth a visit - or other little towns and villages in that area.
Rothenburg o.d.T. is just astonishing. I was there this year and that was not the last time.
Far in the east Görlitz - a small town on the river Oder - has also a nice architecture. Potsdam (the little brother of Berlin) is also great, especially for its parks.

Im missing some more recommendations in northern Germany, we have nice places too!
Like Bautzen where u can see the nice oldtown from the Friedensbrücke, but you have to deal with the dialect ^^
or the towns along the Weser with their connection to the german fairy tales, Hameln and the Pied Piper for example,
and for a complete different scenery the Ostfriesischen Inseln, which, despite their name, are not located in the east but in the Northsea :)
Unfortunatly all these places are a bit further away -.-

You mentioned St. Michael's: I highly recommend you visit a concert in this beautiful church once it's possible again after the pandemic. The organ is great, the acoustics is outstanding. I remember a concert I visited decades ago: just the organ and one classical guitar, purely acoustic. When sitting on the gallery the big pipes sometimes made the wooden construction and the bench vibrate from the energy, and all the time the guitar came through crystal clear. BTW: I grew up in Schwäbisch Hall, and I stumbled across your vlog because of the aerial view of the town: Hey, I know that place - feels like home!

We went to school there in the 60s when our father was stationed in Hanau/Fulda. The bldgs are phenomenal, as are the people and food, and don't forget the bakarei! Thanks for the memories! 👍👍👍😍

You should check out my hometown Dinkelsbühl! It's 1 hour away from Schwäbisch Hall. The magazine FOCUS wrote Dinkelsbühl has the most beautiful old town center in Germany! Many tourists I've spoken to say Dinkelsbühl is less crowded than Rothenburg but more beautiful. If you visit, go and visit the Kinderzeche (14th - 23rd July). There are parades, plays and basically the whole town is going crazy. 😊

You should go to Tübingen it is worth for shure. And Naturpark obere Donau from Beuron one of the oldest and most important Monastiers( sorry dont know how to spell) in Germany, to Sigmaringen. You will see one of the most beautyfull Landscapes. In that Aeria People found the one of the oldest Artwork of Mankind. It is a little to drive from Schwäbisch Hall but worth. If you are early there in Beuron you can rent a Kanu and go the way to Sigmaringen on River Danube ( Donau in German ).

You should try Schwerin in the North. It has one of the most beautiful Castle of Germany and lots of lake around the City. It's worth a day trip and because you live in the south, you should make a round trip to Hamburg, Schwerin, Wismar and perhaps even Rostock/Warnemünde at the coast. It's really beautiful and each City has its own mix of old and new.

I can give a +1 for Münster and Dresden. Both have beautiful city centers with many older buildings.
Münster has a university sprinkled all over the city which results in a very young audience (during semester) and is also famous for its incredible number of bicycles.
For Dresden I would highly recommend a bonus hiking trip to the Sächsische Schweiz. Beautiful nature and from the right spots an endless view over the flat land.
May the best defensive vlogger tackle/sack the other two ;)! Your style is by far not so hectic and I'm really enjoying this.

Yeah, this part of the world isn't the worst to live in.
Other suggestions: Bad Wimpfen, Esslingen, Waiblingen, just to name a few. Horb is built very similarly to Schwäbisch Hall, it also has an island in the Neckar river and an "uptown". There is an outdoor stair that leads all the way up, which I tried to run up in one peace with 40 pounds of gear in almost 40 degrees celsius. Well ... don't try it, its bad for the blood circulation. :-)
There are tons of nice places to see in Germany. Have fun!
And thanks for the nice videos, I really enjoy them.

It's nice to see that you enjoy living here and I hope all your Unicorns colleagues from abroad do so as well. There is a lot to discover in this republic, therefore I'm going to recommend places and regions that quite distinguish from one another.
    - 3 nearby places for a daytrip:
    a) Langenburg with a nice castle that hosts the "Deutsches Automuseum" (oldtimers, but not only)
    b) Ludwigsburg residence castle and park "Blühendes Barock" (
    c) In December, don't miss neither the Nürnberger Christkindlesmarkt nor the Weihnachtszauber in Schwäbisch-Hall.
    - 3 cities worth spending at least a full weekend:
    a) Berlin (well: poor but sexy)
    b) München (there's so much more to it than Oktoberfest!)
    c) Dresden (culture, architecture and the GFL Nord Monarchs)
    - 3 starting points to explore the hinterland:
    a) Stralsund (Ostsee, Insel Rügen, a nice maritime touch)
    b) Gelsenkirchen (Highly recommended! Formerly heavy-industrial, the whole "Ruhrpott" area is in the middle of a fascinating metamorphosis. Easily get in touch with people talking about Fußball (maybe vs Football) in a bar, but get a feel for the colors, first 😉 : very loyal fans!)
    c) Western Bodensee area, maybe Singen/Hohentwiel: Ideal to cover Schwarzwald and France/Alsace westwards, Schweiz/the Alps in general southwards and one of the biggest inland seas in Europe eastwards. It only takes daytrips in each direction.
    Gute Fahrt und viel Spaß!

Somebody already mentioned Quedlinburg, also Rothenburg ob der Tauber is generally considered one of the most beautiful towns of Germany (and similar to Quedlinburg even a bit smaller than Schwäbisch Hall, Rothenburg being even smaller).
When you're in the north, the towns of Stade (roughly SHA sized) and Lüneburg (around double the size but still very small feeling if walking the old town) are also definitely recommended if you want some towns with history and the architecture to go with it (even if not taking in all the history itself).
But yeah, SHA is nice, too. Large enough to have everything you need in your daily life at hand, small enough to not be too hectic, and beautiful architecture and landscape to boot.

Something different and maybe more interesting than all those towns: Do a daytrip to "Schaffhausen" to take a look at the "Rheinfälle", one of Europes biggest waterfalls.
Then you have two possible routes to continue:
1st: Take a look at "Konstanz", a really beautiful town at the same named lake "Lake of Constance"
2nd: Continue your trip through Switzerland along the southern side of the Lake of Constance until you reach Austria. Go to "Bregenz", climb the "Pfänder" and enjoy the view over both, the Lake of Constance and the Alps.
    Best greetings from Austria!

Have you ever been in East Germany? Downtown Dresden with its old barock architecture and museums at the Elbe is great. But also the cities around Dresden like Meißen or the beautiful "Sächsische Schweiz" where you can hike or visit the castle "Königstein". The feeling is different between East and West Germany - at least when I was there.
It's great to see that you american football players are so involved in the daily life of Schwäbisch Hall and are so interested in Germany.
A possibility to learn German is the "Volkshochschule". They are in every german city and they offer cheap courses for everyone - young, old,...
Courses like languages, Yoga, Dancing/Music, Photography and Computer, ....

I would recommend the 'Altes Land', which is an area near Hamburg. If you google it and look at the pictures, you'll see the traditional northern architecture and the huge apple plantations

My Grandmother was born just outside of Schwebishhall. She lived with her parents at a bed and breakfast just prior to the start of WWII. She has found memories of climbing the church stairs with her Grandfather to go to mass on Sundays. Schwebishhall is #1 on my bucket list.

Regensburg, Heidelberg, Erfurt - the only big cities which did not get bombed to the ground. All of them beautiful and only 150-200k inhabitants. Also worth a visit: Nürnberg, Dresden, München, Weimar (small city), Rothenburg o.d. Tauber, Würzburg, Trier... and lots of very small cities that you can experience in one day

You should definitly check out Weimar, where Goethe and Schiller lived. It has so much history and is a small, but one of the most famous and extraordinary cities in germany. It also looks pretty awesome, in my opinion.

I would like to recommend the beautiful city of Nördlingen. It still has its old wall around the historical town and you can actually walk the whole way around on it, with great views. You can also climb the steeple for an invredible view
Thanks for the nice videos :)

Nördlingen is flat, so you view only little parts at one time. Schwäbisch Hall is like a theatre.

Come visit Heidelberg, nice city with an old castle ruin. The longest pedestrian shopping street in Europe. Sitting near the river in the grass and enjoy the sun after a little hike to the castle or on the top of the Königstuhl (where you have nice view over Heidelberg). If you stay another day you can take a boat ride on the Neckar to four other castle ruins. Starting at the boat stop you can hike all four and spend an nice day.

any idea yet whether you're gonna stay in germany for the rest of your football career (and maybe even after that)? glad to see you're enjoying your time here so far.
as for places to check out, don't forget about the bigger cities. even though they might be noisy/not as "cozy" in general, they still have parts called "altstadt" (aka "the old part of the city"). examples: regensburg, nürnberg, or even münchen (especially all the small towns/villages around it).

In addition to the Bavarian and southwestern towns already listed (Munich is not so bad either for a big town), in the east there are also some nice ones: Dresden (big), Quedlinburg, Görlitz, and Wismar (up at the coast). I am from Hamburg (big), which is famed for its nordic atmosphere, harbour and city center, Lübeck is nearby, Lüneburg as well. Both historic places in the north. I really like the area down at Lake Constance with Konstanz and Meersburg as examples. In the Palatinate there are tons of great paces in the narrow valley that the river Mosel sqeezes through, between Trier and Koblenz in general. Also Hesse has tons of great places, or see the natural monuments in Saxony. I personally like the many islands off the coast, both in the North Sea (west) as well as in the Baltic Sea (east). Not so much architecture there, but nature and relaxing.

There are a lot of towns, that are worth a visit. ;)
Eichstätt is really great, actually the whole Altmühltal. It is not that touristic like other places in bavaria but it has a really beautiful landscape. I also really like Regensburg or especially Munich. And if you like the style of Schwäbisch Hall, you should definitely visit Rothenburg ob der Tauber. There's also a great music festival in the middle of August. ;)
And if you'd like to drink a lot of different, great beers I'd suggest to visit Bamberg, even if it's Franconia. ;)

only towns like Arles or Aix en Provence could be compared with Schwäbisch Hall. I love France too, spend over two years only during holidays there. At Georges du Verdon you van see free flying vultures 10 Meters over your head.

Just a lil' bit more north ;-) you'll find some very fine places to go like Hameln (Hamelin), Paderborn (that impressed me much, been there first time this year, just 100km away from home, never been there before), Quedlinburg, Goslar (both cities with hist. palaces of the middle-age emperors), Braunschweig (where Henry the Lion resides). Marburg (very similar to Schwäbisch-Hall, with one of the oldest Universities of Germany) and even to mention Hannover (the greenest Capital of the federate states of Germany).
If you take the time just travel the Bundesstraße 3 from the Border @ Basel just up north to Buxtehude near Hamburg.
You will see the varying landscapes the the beauty of Germany. It will take you 3 weeks, if you'll stay just a day at the most beautiful sites on this route (812km in total).
