Yes I was so frustrated after watching Jab we met we went to watch No smoking immediately and we came home that day like we got brutally tortured...Even we saw that after interval nobody was willing to enter the theater from the cafeteria...we fooled our other friends to watch this movie saying that it was the best movie made on smokers... those were the Engineering days

One of the major reasons is lack of film promotions. Even bookmyshow didn't show most of these films in nearby theatres. I would have loved to see Mard ko Dard nahi hota and Bhavesh Joshi if I knew they had theatrical releases...

More than 60% population of India depends on agriculture, and 'Kadwi hawa' represents struggles of many farmers. Idk why it was neglected.. coming through a farmer's family... I felt so connected as my grandfather always hoped for rain, asked help from mother nature to feed us many people..climate change is such a huge threat and this movie exactly showed the same.

No smoking in one of the rarest movies ever made in Bollywood. If the response from the audience were good in that time, the course of bollywood would have been changed by now. But the truth is, Indian audience don't deserve good film.
Promotion? Yeah Hindi Movies needs hell loads of promotion where it takes a major chunk of the budget. In down south Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam movies won't do such huge promotions for a movie. Movie teasers, trailers does the majority promotion. If these are good enough then here audience wait for the release. For Hindi movies, the movie team have to beg audience to watch their movie by continuous promotion events. While for regional movies, the audience wait for the movie releases before even the promotions get start. Simple proof is "The market size of Hindi film industry and the collections they get when compared to regional film industries market size and the collections.. Hindi Film collections are based on more number of audience watching the movie because of the scale they get released. While here in South, the amount of audience watching the movie repeatedly in theaters is huge..

Lifestyle of the middle class people is so hectic, stressed and frustrating that they see cinema as a place where they could forget about the hardships of life for 3 hours and enjoy little bit, and when movies are dark and deep which make them more sad and put them in tears I wouldn't blame the audience fully but yes it is also true that majority of the people doesn't have critical and insightful taste for movies. In down south Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam movies won't do such huge promotions for a movie.
Movie teasers, trailers does the majority promotion. If these are good enough then here audience wait for the release.
For Hindi movies, the movie team have to beg audience to watch their movie by continuous promotion events.
While for regional movies, the audience wait for the movie releases before even the promotions get start.
Simple proof is "The market size of Hindi film industry and the collections they get when compared to regional film industries market size and the collections..
Hindi Film collections are based on more number of audience watching the movie because of the scale they get released.
