Very few overcome those challenges. Very few come out of it learning to be good. Naruto Uzumaki was strong enough to FIGHT evil. He fought off and even tamed the demons within him (yes it's a metaphor). Naruto singlehandedly beat the odds and became a good person who fought for everyone. Even the people that hated him. Despite all that they'd put him through, he fought for them. And fought to make the world a better place, so that kids could grow up not having to experience the pain he did.
