    Minor correction: Potion of Poison is brewed with spider eye on awkward potion, not by inverting a regeneration potion. Both potion of poison and potion of healing can individually be inverted to make a potion of harming, which applies instant damage (and heals undead mobs).

    • @Pixlriffs
      @Pixlriffs  ปีที่แล้ว +35

      I knew you get poison potions from spider eyes, but can you not also get them by inverting a regen potion? Feels like an inconsistency to me

    • @TheRealWormbo
      @TheRealWormbo ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@Pixlriffs It's indeed inconsistent, but I had a look not just at the wiki, but also at the code. Spider eye in awkward potion is the only way to brew poison.

      @@TheRealWormbo Whats weirdest and most inconsistent of all is how you said its possible to get a potion of harming by inverting a potion of poison it just makes no sense 😂😂

    One cool thing about brewing is that every ingredient is renewable.
    Also, if you need help but don't want to load the wiki constantly, there is Vanilla Tweaks/Bedrock Tweaks which add a neat little brewing guide to the brewing stand UI.

      How to enable it ? I brewed a lot of potions and killed the dragon just a day before this video came out and i had to go to wiki so many times, though I didn't use many of them cuz i forgot to make the difficulty hard 🙄

    • @paulelderson934
      @paulelderson934 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@bleh-zj1hy Vanilla Tweaks has a nice explanation on their website on how to use the datapacks or resourcepacks.
      Some of them might need an in-game command to activate, like the coordinates HUD for example. If you don't notice the effect of your datapack, search TH-cam for the name of it. Vanilla Tweaks has uploaded short video guides for how to activate them.

    Although I've been playing Minecraft for over 10 years now and I'm very familiar with the game, I still love watching your survival guides. And it's not only because they're great - which they are - but they're also a lovely demonstration of how tightly designed and interconnected the game's mechanics are.

    Great episode, I love brewing. My favorite thing to do to keep water in my brewing area is to put 4 stairs in the floor under the block the brewing stand sits on. You can waterlog the stairs and have an infinite water supply for bottles, and it's an eye catcher when it comes to designing a room.

    Quick note @Pixlriffs, I heard the Minecraft wiki is going to be shutting down and most likely won't be receiving updates anymore. If it's true, we're gonna have to find a new site that stays up to date on newer updates...

      What I’ve heard is the Minecraft wiki is parting ways with Fandom, their current host. They will hopefully create a fork of the wiki with all its current information, but hosted on a different service.
      Personally I’ve found the fandom wiki really rough to use recently, with all the pop-up ads and junk like that. Hope they find a new home soon :)

    Potions! I'd forgotten what ghast tears make, it's so fun seeing what different stuff can do in Minecraft! Also, for potion brewing there's a texture pack on Vanilla Tweaks that shows a "cheat sheet" of all the ingredients and effects on the brewing stand interface.

    Potions of Night Vision are great for exploring oceans - the water becomes almost completely transparent so that underwater structures (e.g. shipwrecks, drowned ruins) are easier to see without getting out of your boat. A fun way to replenish the water in a cauldron is to place pointy dripstone over it with a dripstone block and water source above that. Water will drip into the cauldron, automatically refilling over time. That may not be the most efficient water source, but the atmospheric aesthetic in a brewing chamber is perfect. Finally, a rabbit's foot can be used to brew Potions of Leaping. I've not used them much, but they're useful if you need to jump higher or farther. There are a couple of other potions, Turtle Master and Slow Falling, and Pixlriffs will probably explain the latter in some detail before traveling to The End to face the End Dragon.

    Excellent guide! Potions are one way to improve your game.
    Even water bottles themselves can be made into splash potions with gunpowder. Useful if you did something like put a dolphin in a boat. Or splash onto a flopping fish. Slightly helpful if you need more time to pickup a tropical fish in a bucket. One you might have accidentally dropped onto the floor while building an aquarium.
    While I enjoy the slower pace of the guide, I forget just how early in the game this is. The world looks so empty compared to what progress one can have at this point.
    These items are also quite decorative. I used the nether wart as 'weird stuff' growing out of a manure pile I built next to a stable to house tamed camels, horses and a few donkeys. So it can be a stylish build option. The brewing stand looks good at a simple campsight as a sort of 'hooka' set off to the side of a set of slabs used for seats around a campfire.
    Using nether bricks from the fortress where the Nether wart came from, you can build a brewing setup in the attic opposite the enchanting setup. The dark red works well with the existing green color scheme of the moss ceiling. And helps integrate the color of any large pots you place.

    • @VulpisFoxfire
      @VulpisFoxfire ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, 'Splash Potions of Water'. I was going to mention those myself...one of the classic uses for them is as hand grenades against Endermen, though they're of limited combat effectiveness since the Enderman will simply teleport away.

    You could have a cauldron under a hidden dripstone with water as long as you don't brew super often it would work :)
    Also it would be cool if you could empty potions into a cauldron and drink from it in stages the way you eat cake in stages and have the potion effect quickly as you are about to leave your base.

    I always seem to forget that potion brewing is even a mechanic in Minecraft, but with all the benefits that potions can give, I really should stop overlooking it.

    wonder why you can’t use golden apples for regeneration potions

    Can you use a splash pot of weakness on a creeper and push it into a pit with zombies?

  • @williamludwick77
    @williamludwick77 ปีที่แล้ว

    @4:13 anyone else get annoyed that both the glistening melon and golden carrot recipes are with nuggets, but the golden apple is with ingots?
    Why is it so much more costly? I mean sure, gold farms make it almost a moot point but initially if you're trying to establish a mini villager trading setup, it's costly to do the zombie curing.

    • @Pixlriffs
      @Pixlriffs  ปีที่แล้ว

      Golden apples also give you extra hearts of health and 5 seconds of Regeneration II, so they’re expensive for the sake of balance with other foods

    • @williamludwick77
      @williamludwick77 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Pixlriffs ah yes, forgot about that part. I rarely use them for that but normally just for the potions.
      So it would make sense for them to be more expensive.

      Meanwhile, us really old farts remember when you were able to *craft* the Enchanted Golden Apple (aka 'Notch Apple'), which required 8 gold *blocks*. :-) Would be interesting if they made a 'Gilded Apple' or some such that gave you mild healing effects and just used nuggets, though,
