You know you're team got screwed when the NCAA creates a rule that prevents anyone from losing in that same way again (referring to the UT-UNC finish and the 10 second runoff rule)
I wouldn’t say UT got screwed since the refs were following the letter of the law at the time. What really screwed y’all was the poor play calling that led to y’all to be in that position, and a unnecessary personal foul penalty that helped give Carolina an extra 15 yards.
11:24 - To me, there are two baffling things about this game regarding the ACC statement. The first is that the ACC could have mentioned they were suspending the referees due to multiple errors throughout the game, including the ending. The second is this part of the statement: "The ACC also said that the officials should have called an illegal block during the return back at Miami’s 16-yard line, which would have given the Hurricanes an untimed down at their own 8-yard line." How does the offense gain an untimed down when they committed the penalty? It doesn't make any sense.
The biggest miss was the player on the sidelines literally entering the field of play DURING THE PLAY and running the last twenty yards with the ball carrier WHILE HOLDING HIS HELMET IN HIS HANDS! Worst no call I have ever seen in my life. AND they had REPLAY!
To answer your question 2 years later, I think they get an untimed down, because Duke would accept the penalty. Normally, the leading team will decline the penalty at the end of the game, resulting in game over, but in this case declining the penalty means Miami gets a touchdown.
The kicking team would have needed to accept the penalty to negate the score. The game is extended for an untimed down if a penalty is accepted for any live ball foul unless it includes a loss of down.
Awesome compilation! I watched that Bama-Auburn game. All of Bama had left the field for halftime and they had to come back because Auburn argued for one second more of play. They got the time, kicked a FG, and Saban went ballistic. Then Bama got that illegal substitution call at the end - I love it!!! And you have the Piss and Miss! One of my all time favorite football moments. So dumb. So hilarious!
I know I am a Bama fan so this might come off as biased but doesn't illegal substitution on the defense not get called until the ball is snapped because if so then Auburn would have to snap the ball for that penalty to be called

1:25-2:04 What a great memory for an Auburn Tiger. The Tigers win between the hedges in dramatic fashion with freshman Carnell Williams having 40+ carries in this game. I was a sophomore in high school during the 2001 season, and before the ball was snapped on that final play, my mind quickly went back to the 1992 Auburn-Georgia game. This memory is somewhat grey as I was only 6 yrs old, but I remember Auburn having the ball on the goal line with very little time in the game, down 14 to 10, and the qb Stan White fumbled the snap. Although the Tigers recovered the ball, the Georgia D-line all piled on the qb and refused to get up. By the time they did get up, Auburn quickly ran to the line to try to get off another snap, but the clock expired, preserving the (controversial) victory for Georgia. I remember a lot of people hanging out in the stands for what seemed like forever, thinking (and wishing and hoping) for the refs to call a penalty or something, which never happened.
They didn't start the clock prematurely. And not only did LSU not get the snap off in time, they had several men in motion at the snap. The fact that the play was even momentarily ruled a touchdown (and it was more than "momentarily;" I was there and it felt like a lifetime) was the biggest travesty. (Though an LSU fan near me did say "Well, the good news is we get to get rid of our coach, and you're stuck with yours." He wasn't wrong on either count.)
I understand that they were 1/2 a yard away from the end zone, but why would Minnesota not just kick the field goal to send it to OT? You were at home, and overtime tends to favor the home team
The frustrating thing about college sometimes is that coaches take completely unnecessary risks. Just take the OT when you have the ball like that and less than 10s left, all kinds of bad things can happen if you rush a play in that situation.
@@alphabuckeyelion2233 the real issue was trying to call that boneheaded trick play that ate like 15 seconds of the clock. Would have better odds running straight into the middle twice
Worst one that comes to mind is NC State shanking a gimme kick to win at Clemson. Also Oregon’s kick falling short to beat Oregon State at the end of regulation in 2007
So with the exception of Oregon, anytime any player from the PAC-12 scores. That's basically sums up your video idea. Actually, with the PAC-12 forgoing the 2020 season, all the big name Oregon players will be forgotten, so it really should include all 12 schools.
Warren Holloway's winning Hail Mary TD catch from Drew Tate for Iowa on the last play of the game against LSU in the 2005 Capital One Bowl. Holloway was a senior and that was his first, and last, TD of his entire career. I remember watching it on my couch with my father.
I was at that one (and two of those in this video) and yeah, I thought that one was over three times before it finally was. (Four times, if you count being over-confident when Auburn took a 14-point lead with 7 minutes to play. Five times, if you count me being sure that Northwestern's FG at the end of regulation (following the fumbled KO after NW had tied the game with about a minute to go with a TD and 2-point conversion that they had to have after missing the XP following their previous TD; you're right, that game was NUTS) was good.

The rule may have been one almost everyone disagrees with, but unfortunately some of the few who do agree with it were the ones in charge of setting the rules. "After a score or any other play, the player in possession immediately must return the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot. This prohibits: •Spiking the ball to the ground •Throwing the ball high into the air" - Section 2 Article 1 (2)(b) and (2)(c) of the NCAA Football Rules and Interpretations

Can someone tell me what happen in 1st video clip with NC. They spike it with 1 second but had multiple players on the field so isn’t a penalty on the offense with a running clock a 10 second runoff? Does it only apply to a false start or does that rule not apply to college. Just wondering?

It’s crazy to think how that one bad call with the officials starting the clock prematurely for LSU/Auburn eventually led to LSU winning the natty
It was Halloween and their first game after Jerry Kill quit, they wanted to go for the win. The execution was...lacking
@grodhagen and yet Minnesota was right in it. There is no excuse as to why they tried for a TD rather than kick a FG and send it to OT
@@alphabuckeyelion2233 the real issue was trying to call that boneheaded trick play that ate like 15 seconds of the clock. Would have better odds running straight into the middle twice
Hindsight
I’m not even a Duke fan but nothing in college football history makes me cringe more than that play.
Morgan Bryce Rob Lowe of all ppl posted a pic on Twitter of the Miami player knee down with it in his hands. Duke won that game
@@Kvile-zx4sk 11 ran onto the field from the sideline while the ball was still in play without his helmet on and all the refs missed it.
@@Kvile-zx4sk I was going to say that lol
Imagine not only missing that his knee was down, but then missing 3 clear as day penalties as well
The whole referee crew I believe was suspended because of that play. They missed like 7 different things that should've invalidated the touchdown
You should do worst field goal misses
Amazing idea
Worst one that comes to mind is NC State shanking a gimme kick to win at Clemson. Also Oregon’s kick falling short to beat Oregon State at the end of regulation in 2007
Alabama takes up half the video
Boise states kicker kyle brotzman who missed two field goals in the game against nevada in 2010 should be on that list
Ficken (Penn State) vs Virginia 2013
5:06 I still remember that night watching it happen. I was soooo pissed.
It didn’t hurt as much in hindsight considering how the rest of the season panned out
Video idea: unknown players making big time plays
@@RadicallyOptimistic That is sadly true
So with the exception of Oregon, anytime any player from the PAC-12 scores. That's basically sums up your video idea. Actually, with the PAC-12 forgoing the 2020 season, all the big name Oregon players will be forgotten, so it really should include all 12 schools.
Les Miles poor clock management never gets old 😂
Warren Holloway's winning Hail Mary TD catch from Drew Tate for Iowa on the last play of the game against LSU in the 2005 Capital One Bowl. Holloway was a senior and that was his first, and last, TD of his entire career. I remember watching it on my couch with my father.
That’s what this video already is
I was at that UCF-ECU game. Not sure I’ve ever been in a more stunned home crowd
Love that u can hear that the announcers are pissed when coaches and players make stupid decisions
@4:30 it looks like he crossed the line of scrimmage anyway. BTW, great job to the uploader; I love these videos!
It was great seeing the piss and the miss make the video 😂

Angels beat Red Sox 21-2.
That day must have been full of sports shenanigans.
These be some of the best college football games on Saturday and that is straight facts 💯
That 2016 Auburn vs LSU game was a rollercoaster of emotion for both sides
That Minnesota and Michigan game absolutely sums up Minnesota football .... going for it all and being nowhere near good enough to pull it off
13:11 is the worst blocking in football history
Those were a lot of fun to watch!!
I think you should do Auburn vs Northwestern 2010. The game seemed to be over like 3 different times! A really thrilling, but strange ending
BabyFed 0215 I was there, it was nuts!
This making me miss college football
The end of that Miami game was insane. Best ending to a football game I've ever seen
Except the refs blew it (illegal block in the back by Miami's # 22 at 11:57).
2:55 imagine being one of the fans that rushed the field
War eagle!!
Dude...if they hadn't initially won that game..that dudes life would be forefit
7:46 the ref was my junior high vice principal
I watched the FSU-GT game live on TV. Being an arrogant teenager, I had my parents pause the game to I could record that field goal, because I was so confident that he would make it. That clip was on my phone for months, and that moment was burnt into my head
I was at the BYU UW game in 2008 - jake locker launched the ball 30 feet into the air. No one gets away with that. That was the right call.
if only he had launched it 29 feet then no penalty
1:00
You can tell how the crowd reacted
That poor BYU kicker. Oh, my goodness.
I was at that game i'm a Ute fan dude it was so wild half the god damn stadium was down on the sidelines when he clanged that kick off the post lol it was fucking insane but glorious! BYU still hasn't beat Utah since then either 😁

That last one was pretty dumb
2009, the unsportsmanlike rule were pretty strict back then.
@@UnchainedAmerica I was at that game. Totally sucked....Locker got hurt two games later and the Dawgs went 0-12
and the way they blocked the kick its like they turned into a giant blob and just rushed the kicker like wtf was that blocking
If Elijah Moore was my teammate I would never forgive him for that stupid selfish decision he made at the end of that game...

For what? Celebrating?
@@ActualGod Seriously? He acted like a dog taking a piss......how is that "celebrating"......thats just fucking weird AF and ridiculously unnecessary. Of all the TD celebrations Ive ever seen, that one was probably the most deserving of a penalty. Even Randy Moss fake mooning the crowd wasn't that bad. Id be beyond pissed at that moron for "celebrating" in one of the most bizarre ways ever.
@@ActualGod No, getting his team a penalty and costing them a game.
Pat McAfee has a great video talking about that play. He was at the game and his old coach Rich Rod was some sort of offensive assistant for Ole Miss at the time.
miami got away with like 2 or 3 block in the backs on that crazy lateral play, i remember that, especially the last block, at 12:08
Thanks for pointing that out; I missed that one. I was focused on the illegal block in the back (by # 22 of Miami) at 11:57. 🙄
The "pissing dog" end zone display was undoubtedly crass & deserved a penalty, but I am bewildered by practically all other celebration penalties. That last clip was especially stupid. They're college kids, let 'em have a little fun!
I was at that Miami vs Duke game. I’m a Miami fan...they reviewed it for soo long I’m literally having enough time to get to know other Cnaes fans lmaoo when the review came back in our favor we went into a frenzy. We stayed like a whole hour after the game in our section. As I walked out Duke fans were in actual tears 😂 beat Halloween of my life 😎
I’ve seen still images of that play & the player # 1 was DOWN before he lateraled the ball!! Duke got screwed! I’m from Minnesota so ultimately I don’t care, glad it went your way though!
@@12bravo57 what’s crazy is the drive before that play there were 3 pass interference calls (2 were horrible) AND the QB sneak was clearly short of the goal line. The refs set up their entire drive before that play. Officiating was so bad that entire game the refs were actually suspended
1:43 is the formation you use in Madden against those pass coverage only defenses and get 600 on the ground
bad call by GA coaching.
In the LSU-Auburn game, it looked like the QB crossed the line of scrimmage before throwing it anyway, so yeah
8:29 can literally hear everyone saying "WHAAAAAAAAAT?

Some of these plays made me scream, “WTF ARE THEY DOING!?”
The one with mark richt coaching Georgia against auburn 2:03 and Georgia losing due to poor clock management was classic mark richt
Stupid penalty by number eight lifting his leg like a dog. Cost his team an easier extra point
Yah makes you want to rip the helmet off his head and smack him with it.
Cost them a chance to for 2 as well
On the bright side, that penalty got them Lane Kiffin.
The thugs these teams recruit are what cause alot of their losses.
Easier extra point? Isnt the penalty assess at kickoff?
The disgust and disappointment of the commentators are priceless. Especially the one from the Tennessee and North Carolina game.
3:34 what a time to be alive when Cal is ranked in the top 10...
They went in free-fall after this & were like 7-6.

Spiking the ball with 1 second left is the most Les Miles thing ever

Jake Locker’s unsportsmanlike “spike” will forever be the worst referee call of all time
Yeah but it ended up not mattering. If he missed that would be one thing but it got blocked moving back 15 yards wouldn't affect that
The rule may have been one almost everyone disagrees with, but unfortunately some of the few who do agree with it were the ones in charge of setting the rules.
"After a score or any other play, the player in possession immediately must return the ball to an official or leave it near the dead-ball spot. This prohibits:
•Spiking the ball to the ground
•Throwing the ball high into the air"
- Section 2 Article 1 (2)(b) and (2)(c) of the NCAA Football Rules and Interpretations
The call was 100% correct. Don’t blame the officials for making a correct call by rule if you don’t agree with the rule itself. Blame the people who made the rule in the first place.
They say that spiking in 4th down was bad but not really. Sometimes there is a mysterious 5th down.
Can someone tell me what happen in 1st video clip with NC. They spike it with 1 second but had multiple players on the field so isn’t a penalty on the offense with a running clock a 10 second runoff? Does it only apply to a false start or does that rule not apply to college. Just wondering?
Yea I was confused about that one. I think maybe either the refs messed up or the 10 second runoff rule didn’t exist yet.
@@pschighlights 10 second run off got put in place the year after, that was not the rule at the time so there was technically still a second on the clock.
It was my understanding, as a Tennessee fan, that this rule was instituted in part because of how this game ended.
Man that Utah vs. BYU game was awesome.
5:09 As an FSU fan, I will always despise Georgia Tech in some way because of this play. We were ranked 9th and had solid chances of competing for the playoff, that pretty much went down the drain when this happened. I honestly thought Roberto Aguayo would nail that, and then it got blocked and I was like, “Oh, great we’re going to overtime and then he took it back and I remember me going crazy and just jumping up and down and yelling I was so mad. Georgia Tech was literally 2-5 and while I won’t deny they played a great game, they had a lot of lucky plays. Like when one of our receivers bobbled the ball in the end zone and it got tipped and intercepted. I hope we rematch Georgia Tech just because I’m still mad about that play 5 years later mainly because after the 2016 season we haven’t had a season over 7 wins since and that was our best shot at getting to the playoff. I think it really messed with all the players and we ended up losing a close game to Clemson, then getting dominated by Houston in the Peach Bowl, so who knows what would have happened if fit wasn’t for that. I know that I’m whining I just really hate that play.
The Jimbo honeymoon ended with that play.

Ok but why did North Carolina run it with no timeouts

I was waiting for that Utah/BYU game. I remember watching that one with a friend
Miami Duke
11:57 Block in the back
The dudes knee was down too
The irony 4:55
This rule was put in place because 1 year earlier UK lost to Florida for this exact reason. The game clock sat at 0 for 5+ seconds and UF was still allowed to snap the ball, and eventually "won" in ot or double ot. Then the UK score flashes while it is being overturned. Yes I'm still salty too
