My theory is that he is their child, and this is not present day but Seoul in 1980. The first season is happening in 1945 and this is 35 years later - so this is Korea in 1980. And what happened in Korea in the 80's. ?. There was a military cup and the people who resisted were killed. So it is the same story of an evil power doing awful things to the people of Korea and the ordinary man resisting. The monster in this serie is an allegory for the evil in a dictatorship and that "mother" Korea was turned into a monster who killed it's own children because the country was mistreted for so long by the Japanese.
Akiko was already been experimented on but it took forever for the Nanji to take over her body because she was pregnant. The Nanji probably took over the baby's body but couldn't evolve fast enough so after Akiko was rescued, the Nanji started to make it's way from the baby to Akiko's brain to take over Akiko. Tae-sang drank the cup with the Nanji because........after running around through the hospital looking for Chae-ok.....he got hella thirsty....why not? Free water....GULP....down goes the Nanji! Chae-ok survived by her mother transferring the Nanji to her and makes a complete healing from her wounds but decided to live her life away from Tae-sang as it would worry him as to why she is still alive. She checks up on Tae-sang to ensure he is ok, as the ending of season 1 showed us that he thought he saw a familiar face in the crowd. As the years passed, Tae-sang realized that he isn't aging while all his friends are aging and dying so he is forced to move and change names and birth certificate to avoid being SUS that's why he has a new name "Oh-Jae". He doesn't understand why he isn't aging but he continues to live his life. Years passed, Chae-ok visits Tae-sang from far away again then realized that the Golden Mansion pawn shop has been closed so she assumed Tae--sang died from old age. Lady Maeda, would drink the Nanji given to her by the Scientist so she can pursue more of the crazy experiment and also, to heal her burn scars because she's hella ulgy now so she said "YOLO, i can't get with Master Jang with this burned face." The scientist would also, drink the Nanji so he can keep on with his experiment with the Nanji to evolve humanity. The scientist would adopt Akiko's son and perform more experiments on her son to understand an infected baby with Nanji. The baby would grow up to do the scientist's dirty work of helping the scientist with experiment. Lady Maeda would continue to fund the scientist's experiment. Chae-ok realized that Lady Maeda and the scientist is still alive after all these years. She continues to live and dedicate her life to disrupt their experiment on humans and hopefully one day exact revenge for her mother and father! As for Seishin (Chae-ok's mother), Lady Maeda and Seishin was student and Teacher. A fall out probably happened between them about Lady Maeda's crazy experiment. Lady Maeda was scared that Seishin might snitch on her so she kept Seishin in captivity for 10 yrs with special treatment. However, the crazy scientist needed more humans to experiment on and used Seishin as an experiment without Lady Maeda knowing.
I think Tae Sang drank the Najin. There were hints through out the season - Chae Ok's dream of him being Najin, his bloody handprints on the wall, his ability to heal.. Plus Kato mentioned Najin will have high instinct of being a predator & survivor - so Tae Sang was in strong survival mode throughout. My theory is that Tae Sang will remain immortal and thought that Chae Ok has died long time ago. And Season 2 starts when they meet again decades later. Considering they lost the war and Kato spilled his precious specimens, Kato will raise the baby as his son, who will grew up and be an older villain in Season 2.
But did Myeong-ja drink the Najin?? She turned into the first stage as a predator so unless I missed something, I don't think Tae-Sang drank it. Maybe something happened after Chae-ok's death though

Pretty sure that the 'villainess' (Lady Mada? I forget her name already) will return too given her connection to the story (and her connection to Hon Jae, whether or not he is a name change or not). I imagine Hon Jae *is* a name change though; because I bet he will operate the same exchange store his 'grand-father' established all those years ago. I imagine the helpers will be new but I also imagine they will be just as loyal because if it is the same character, well, he knows how to earn people's lasting loyalty.
Ofcourse not! Season 1 is amazing, so I don't know why you would skip it. But by just watching this video, you can tell this show has a strong story line. I highly recommend watching season 1. Besides it will be months from now for season 2 to come out.
